US Dept of Treasury Sanctions Two Turkish Officials For the Arrest and Detention of American Pastor Andrew Brunson

Pastor Andrew Brunson

The US Department of Treasury sanctioned two Turkish officials on Wednesday at the direction of President Trump for their direct role in the arrest and detention of pastor Andrew Brunson.

An attorney for Trump, Jay Sekulow confirmed last Wednesday that Pastor Andrew Brunson, an American from North Carolina, was finally released from a Turkish prison after he was arrested 21 months ago for the crime of “Christianization.”

And Turkey is supposed to be an ally to the United States??

Pastor Brunson was transferred to his home in Turkey under house arrest; Sekulow is working to have him fully released to come back to the US.

Last week, the President threatened Turkey with “large sanctions” if they did not fully release Brunson.

Trump tweeted: The United States will impose large sanctions on Turkey for their long time detainment of Pastor Andrew Brunson, a great Christian, family man and wonderful human being. He is suffering greatly. This innocent man of faith should be released immediately!

On Wednesday, Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced, “At the president’s direction, the Department of Treasury is sanctioning Turkey’s Minister of Justice and Minister of Interior both of whom played leading roles in the arrest and detention of Pastor Brunson.”

Turkey enjoys the protections of NATO although they are no friend of Christians.

To this day, Turkey denies the genocide of over 3 million Christian Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians by the Ottoman Turks that took place between 1915-1924.

Disclosure: The author of this article is first generation American Christian of Armenian descent who lost family in the genocide.
