Spox for Melania Trump Slams ‘Rabid Press Corps’ Over ‘Speculation and Nonsense’

A spokesperson for First Lady Melania Trump lashed out at the media Monday afternoon over reporting on Melania’s absence from the public eye as she recuperates from kidney surgery last month. The First Lady was seen walking in the White House last week by two reporters with CNBC and NBC, the only time anyone from the media has seen her since her surgery. Her absence has led to wild speculation by reporters and liberals.

The comments were reported by CNN’s Kate Bennett vua fellow CNN reporter M.J. Lee, ““Mrs. Trump has always been a strong and independent woman who puts her family, and certainly her health above all else, and that won’t change over a rabid press corps. She’s confident in what she is doing and in her role, and knows the rest is just speculation and nonsense.”

Bennett reported Sunday night Melania was going to make her first public appearance Monday night at a White House reception for Gold Star families that is, by tradition, closed to the press, “NEW: @FLOTUS is expected to attend a Gold Star Families event tomorrow evening at the White House. Similar to the GSF reception she & @realDonaldTrump hosted last year. If Melania does indeed go, it will be her first official event since May 10th. Noted: event is closed press”

CNN’s Reliable Sources show did an advent calendar style graphic to accompany a discussion Sunday on the absence of Melania which failed to note she was seen by two reporters on May 29.

CNBC reporter Eamon Javers tweeted he had seen Melania walking in the West Wing last Tuesday. He later added he was with NBC reporter Kristen Welker, who also saw Melania when they were about ten feet away. Javers said they could not take photos of Melania as they were in a restricted area.

“Not that this will deter the conspiracy theorists, but I saw the First Lady walking with her aides in the West Wing yesterday afternoon.”

“I did see her here with her aides and Secret Service agents, but it was in an area of the West Wing where we are not allowed to take pictures. It’s a high security environment!”

“About 10 feet.”

“Yes. There was another reporter with me in the hallway at the time: @kwelkernbc . It was just a brief encounter- she walked past with an aide and secret service agents.”

Brian Stelter, host of CNN’s Reliable Sources, promoted his segment on Melania, “If any First Lady “disappeared,” you’d “want to know where she is.” Here’s our @CNN discussion: http://cnn.it/2xFnTH9″

Melania has tweeted several times since her surgery, the last on May 30, “I see the media is working overtime speculating where I am & what I’m doing. Rest assured, I’m here at the @WhiteHouse w my family, feeling great, & working hard on behalf of children & the American people!”

The First Lady did not accompany her husband President Trump last weekend to Camp David.

It was also announced Sunday she would not accompany him on two foreign trips (to Quebec and Singapore) this month, reported ABC’s Meredith McGraw, “NEW: First Lady Melania Trump will not attend the G7 or Singapore summit with President Trump, @FLOTUS Communications Director Stephanie Grisham tells me”
