Undocumented Youth and Allies Stage a Sit-in Blocking the Entrance to the DNC Headquarters to Confront False Promises of Democrats and demand Clean Dream Act
Washington DC — Earlier this morning, DACA recipients and allies dressed up with white wigs, canes, and walkers, staged a sit-in blocking the entrance to the DNC Headquarters to dramatize the 17-year-long wait for Congress to pass the DREAM Act. Allies will publicly revoke Democratic Party affiliation at the DNC Headquarters until their party uses the Democratic Party uses its power to pass a Clean Dream Act. Congressional Democrats have had the power to force the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans to act on a DACA fix since the repeal of DACA on Sept 5, 2017.
“The Democrats made the calculation to kick the can down the road and allow hundreds of thousands of us undocumented youth to live in uncertainty. We are anxious and we are scared of being torn away from their homes and our community”, said Maria Duarte, DACA recipient.
The Democratic Party has let the attacks on the immigrant community ramp up as they make the political calculations to use these attacks as an election issue and gain support from immigrant and Latino voters. “We know they want our votes. But we will organize our community and our allies. Like we are doing here at the DNC, we will revoke our Democratic Party affiliation until they guarantee undocumented youth permanent protection, said Cinthia Garcia-Benitez, DACA recipient. “They want our community’s votes but they won’t stand up for us when it counts the most!”
