Monday afternoon the Secret Service announced they are investigating a suspicious package near the White House.
The Secret Service tweeted from their official Twitter account: BREAKING: Secret Service personnel are responding to reports of a suspicious package in the area of Penn Ave & Lafayette Park. Pedestrian & vehicular traffic impacted.

Secret Service then updated: UPDATE: H Street NW between 15th & 17th, Penn Ave between
15th &n 17th, and the @WhiteHouse North Fence Line are closed.

Update: The suspicious package has been deemed safe according to the Secret Service.
