Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) announced Monday afternoon that the Senate reached a short-term agreement to end the government shutdown. According to the New York Democrat, negotiations on DACA will be taken up before the next scheduled shutdown on February 8th.
Progressives are furious with the move, as lawmakers, media figures and activists alike are scratching their heads over the Democrats’ surrender.
Liberal activists are furious with Democratic senators after most of them agreed to reopen the federal government without a firm path to shielding young immigrants from deportation.
As the third day of the shutdown dawned, liberal advocates and immigration groups fired off a joint statement blasting as “unacceptable” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s offer merely to hold a vote on immigration — with no promises for action from the House or White House — in exchange for Democratic votes to reopen the government. This is a good example of the problem of bipartisanship.
In theory, it's a great thing.
In practice, the only thing it involves is ceding to Republican demands in exchange for nothing.

An inescapable fact: Democrats had a lot more to lose from this shutdown — politically speaking — than Republicans.
Why do anything to mess with a double-digit lead on the generic ballot?

I doubted it was possible, but Dems have actually lost a shutdown fight. Schumer has agreed to end the filibuster in exchange for practically nothing. Make no mistake: Schumer & Dems caved. What a political fiasco.
