BREAKING: NBC Fires Matt Lauer For Sexual Misconduct – Not an Isolated Incident

Matt Lauer was fired from NBC Wednesday morning for alleged sexual misconduct.

CNN reports:

Matt Lauer was fired from NBC News on Wednesday after an employee filed a complaint about “inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace,” the network announced.

Savannah Guthrie made the announcement at the top of the “Today” show. Lauer has been the cornerstone of the program, one of the most profitable franchises on television, for two decades.

NBC News chairman Andrew Lack said in a memo to staff that it was the first complaint lodged against Lauer in his career at the network. But he said “we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident.”

New York Times reporters had been investigating Lauer for weeks.

According to the New York Times, a memo from the president of NBC News stated the detailed complaint from the woman was a clear violation of the company’s standards.

“On Monday night, we received a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer,” Andrew Lack, the NBC News president, said in the memo.

He said the allegation against Mr. Lauer “represented, after serious review, a clear violation of our company’s standards. As a result, we’ve decided to terminate his employment.”
