Republican Representative Steve Scalise, the House Majority Whip, and two Capitol Police were shot during baseball practice on Wednesday morning.
Scalise was shot in the hip and tried to drag himself off the field after he was shot.
Joe Barton’s (R-TX) 10-year-old son was also on the field when the Bernie supporter opened gunfire!
Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ) was not only a witness to the shooting on Wednesday morning, but turned out to be a hero as well. Senator Flake quickly grabbed Senator Joe Barton’s (R-TX) 10-year-old son who was helping the team on the field by fetching baseballs, and hid him under the dugout bench to protect him from gunfire.
Senator Jeff Flake: “I poked my head up at one point and saw the shooter behind the backstop uh behind the fence–he still had a line of shot, a line of fire into the dugout. He was firing around but he still could have fired into the dugout. That’s why I kept everybody down.
Joe Barton’s boy was here, a 10-year-old just shagging balls and we got him into the dugout and stuffed him under the bench.”
Senator Flake also said that the shootout lasted for about 10 minutes until the shooter was taken down.
