Portland City Council members censured Donald Trump tonight with an unanimous resolution.
Mayor Charlie Hales told the members,
“This is a time where there is poisonous speech in national politics, Mr. Trump in particular. And where we need to stand on behalf of the values that this city loves.”
The council also declared their “support for the city’s Muslim community” and reaffirmed “Portland’s welcoming nature for all immigrants and refugees.”
TGP reporter Michael Strickland attended the meeting and filed this report:
Portland city commissioner Steve Novick calls Donald Trump “evil”, then compares him to Hitler, as the city council passes a resolution that welcomes Muslims and immigrants.
Both Commissioner Amanda Fritz and Mayor Charlie Hales point out that it’s illegal for the city council to engage in politics, yet they continually refer to Trump throughout the meeting.
