Update: 12 Dead from Legionnaire’s Disease at IL Vets Home – 54 More Infected

Another resident from the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Illinois died from Legionnaire’s disease Tuesday bringing the total to 12 since the outbreak started last month.

54 people have been diagnosed with the disease at the home.
The Journal 930 reported:

Another person has died of Legionnaires’ disease at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.

The Adams County Health Department says the resident, who died Monday night, is the 12th person at the Vets Home to have died from the disease since August 27th.

The number of confirmed Legionnaires’ cases remains at 54.

The source of the Legionnella bacteria still hasn’t been found, and environmental test results are still pending.

Legionnaires’ disease is a type of pneumonia caused by bacteria. You usually catch the disease by breathing in mist from water that contains the bacteria. The mist may come from hot tubs, showers, or air-conditioning units for large buildings.
