NBC San Diego reported:

A female San Diego police officer was shot in the neck near Highway 163 at Health Center Drive on Sunday morning, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Police said the officer is expected to survive and is talking in the hospital, SDPD Chief Shelley Zimmerman said.

“She is talking, smiling, and very in good spirits,” ZImmerman said at a press conference. “She appreciates everybody’s concern about her well being, very much appreciates that.”
Officials said a suspect is down, but did not provide further information.

Neighbors in the area reported hearing gunshots outside their houses and could see the officer on the ground.

Dozens of emergency responders were on scene, including fire, paramedic and police officials, in addition to a helicopter circling overhead. SWAT is there as a preliminary and precautionary measure, police said.

Sharp Hospital and Sharp Mary Birch Hospital were placed on lockdown. The lockdown has been lifted.
