Washington, D.C. television stations are reporting a Metropolitan Police Officer was forced to flee a swarm of all-terrain vehicle operators Sunday evening as he attempted to cite one of them for driving on a public street.
WJLA-TV reported about 40 ATV drivers surrounded a police officer in the 1200 block of Clifton Street in Northwest Washington with some kicking the officer’s cruiser. When some of the ATV drivers menaced the officer by driving right at him, the officer jumped in his cruiser and fled.
WRC-TV reported no description of the attackers was released by police.
ATV riders taking over streets in urban areas has become a national phenomenon in recent years.
