El Paso, Texas media is reporting Fort Bliss announced enhanced security measures on Sunday. The announcement came after the conservative government watchdog group Judicial Watch issued an urgent report on Friday based on government sources who warned of possible Islamist terrorist attacks on the Texas-Mexico border. Included in the Judicial Watch report was word from sources that the commanding general of Fort Bliss was being briefed on the threats.

While some of the measures are set to expire Tuesday, other unspecified “future change access controls” will be in place beyond then.

KVIA-TV reported on the enhanced security at Fort Bliss.

“Officials told ABC-7 that their concern for safety will affect vehicle, motorcycle, bicycle and pedestrian access to the installation through 5 a.m. Tuesday morning.

“ABC-7 asked Fort Bliss spokesperson Lt. Col. Lee Peters if this was related to the alleged Islamic State threat in Juarez.

“He said, “Based on [Department of Defense] guidance from recent nationwide incidents, and our own internal assessments coupled with recent media reporting, we decided to implement increased security measures on Bliss. These changes are not as a result of a specific threat but rather to simply get prudent security measures in place to protect our military, employees and visitors.””

KFOX14 reported on the gate restrictions being put in place.

“All vehicles and occupants entering Fort Bliss are subject to random searches and inspections. Travelers should expect delays while entering the base.

“All Department of Defense identification card holders and civilians with a valid state- issued driver’s license may access Fort Bliss through the Cassidy, Buffalo Soldier, Fred Wilson and Old Ironsides gates.

“Only DOD ID card holders will be able to enter Fort Bliss through Biggs main gate and Sergeant Major North gate. All non DOD ID card holders will be directed to the above mentioned gates.

“Pershing gate, IBCT North gate and Sheridan gate will remain closed to all DOD and civilian traffic.”

KWTX-TV reported that some security measures will be effect beyond Tuesday.

“Peters also cited media reports that have to be “assessed” about a possible attack on America’s southern border by militants from Islamic State. ISIS is the group attacking cities in Iraq.

“The Army post also has warned the approximately 30,000 soldiers and 10,000 civilians who work there to expect “future change access controls” beyond Tuesday.

“Peters says new protocol is also being developed because of recent shootings at Fort Hood, Fort Lee and the Navy Yard.”

The El Paso Times reports that Fort Bliss has had an “easy access policy” that encourages the local public to go on base at will to dine, watch movies and attend ceremonies. The article quotes a base press release as saying visitors will not face ‘inconvenience’ beyond random vehicle searches.

The Judicial Watch terrorist attack threat report was reported by The Gateway Pundit on Friday afternoon and updated later that evening.
The report warned:

“Islamic terrorist groups are operating in the Mexican border city of Ciudad Juarez and planning to attack the United States with car bombs or other vehicle born improvised explosive devices (VBIED).

“High-level federal law enforcement, intelligence and other sources have confirmed to Judicial Watch that a warning bulletin for an imminent terrorist attack on the border has been issued. Agents across a number of Homeland Security, Justice and Defense agencies have all been placed on alert and instructed to aggressively work all possible leads and sources concerning this imminent terrorist threat.

“Specifically, Judicial Watch sources reveal that the militant group Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) is confirmed to now be operating in Juarez, a famously crime-infested narcotics hotbed situated across from El Paso, Texas. Violent crimes are so rampant in Juarez that the U.S. State Department has issued a number of travel warnings for anyone planning to go there. The last one was issued just a few days ago.

“Intelligence officials have picked up radio talk and chatter indicating that the terrorist groups are going to “carry out an attack on the border,” according to one JW source. “It’s coming very soon,” according to this high-level source, who clearly identified the groups planning the plots as “ISIS and Al Qaeda.” An attack is so imminent that the commanding general at Ft. Bliss, the U.S. Army post in El Paso, is being briefed, another source confirms…”
