UPDATED: Two Officers Ambushed – Shot Dead in Las Vegas Restaurant (Video)
Two police officers were shot dead today in a Las Vegas restaurant as they ate lunch.
The two then shot another man dead in a Walmart.
One report says that one of the killers shouted “This is the start of a revolution!”
The Review-Journal reported:
Two Las Vegas police officers were killed Sunday in an apparent ambush in a pizza restaurant that spilled over to a nearby Walmart store, where the two shooters committed suicide after shooting and killing a woman.
Details are sketchy but sources within the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department say the officers were shot by a man and a woman who approached them as they ate lunch at a CiCi’s Pizza, 309 N. Nellis Boulevard, at about 11:20 a.m.
Sheriff Doug Gillespie identified the officers as Alyn Beck, 42, and Igor Soldo, 32. He said no motive for the attack has been determined.
“It’s a tragic day,” the sheriff said. “We have lost two officers with young families.”
There are still many questions whose answers won’t be known immeidately, Gillespie said.
A law enforcement official who has been briefed on the incident said one officer was refilling a soft-drink when the female shooter approached him from behind and shot him in the head, killing him instantly.
The woman then shot the other officer several times as he was trying to draw his pistol. Initial reports indicate that Soldo was the officer shot at the soda machine, but that has not been confirmed. :Gillespie did say one of the officers was able to fire back.
It is a bit odd that the local officials have not released the names of the killers yet. The names of the two dead officers were released several hours ago.
UPDATE: This story bares a striking resemblance to a story from last year involving a radical group described as national separatists and would be terrorists called “Sovereign Citizens”
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A couple spent hundreds of hours over four months plotting to abduct, torture and kill Las Vegas police officers as a way to attract attention to their anti-authority “sovereign citizens” movement, police said.
David Allen Brutsche and Devon Campbell Newman attended training sessions about sovereign citizen philosophy, shopped for guns, found a vacant house and rigged it to bind captives to cross beams during interrogation, and recorded videos to explain their actions and why officers had to die.
There is no evidence as of yet that connects either the couple or the group “Sovereign Citizens” to this massacre.
