Breaking: College Student Arrested for Faking Bomb Attack at Boston Marathon Finish Line (Video)

Police detonateD a backpack found at the Boston Marathon finish line.

Police later arrested Kevin “Kayvon” Edson, 25, a local college student.
The Boston Herald reported:

The Wakefield man arrested near the finish line of the Boston Marathon last night “suffers from bipolar disorder” and “was off his meds” when he allegedly created panic on the one-year anniversary of the deadly terrorist bombing, his shaken mother told the Herald.

“It’s very overwhelming right now,” said Joie Edson, 59, of Wakefield, who plans to issue a statement on her family’s behalf later today.

Kevin “Kayvon” Edson, 25, officially identified this morning by Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley’s Office, is expected to be arraigned this morning in Boston.

Municipal Court on charges that were still being finalized.

He was arrested about 6:50 p.m. yesterday. A witness told the Herald Edson was walking barefoot down the middle of Boylston Street wearing a black veil, black hat and black body suit, chanting, “Boston strong!” The Boston Police Department’s bomb squad detonated his backpack, which contained no explosives.

Joie Edson said her troubled son is a college student who he has not lived at home in many months.

She said she didn’t know Kevin was even in Copley Square yesterday, the scene of a daylong remembrance service honoring the dead and maimed and attended by Vice President Joe Biden.
