The man, who was identified in media reports as Christopher Simpson, was attacked about 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the 2600 block of W. Cherry St. in Milwaukee. He told police he was punched in the back of the head, and then several other suspects punched and kicked him when he fell to the ground.
The suspects fled, and Simpson was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and released, police said.
Simpson, who is white, told WTMJ-TV that he was beaten by a group of black teens and that one of them said “This is for Travyon Martin.” The attack occurred the day after neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman was cleared of all charges in the shooting death of Martin, a black 17-year-old, in Sanford, Fla.
A witness to the Milwaukee attack was interviewed by WISN-TV and confirmed that one of the attackers mentioned Martin.
