Eight runners from the Connecticut community were slated to run in their memory.
There was a memorial to the 26 victims of Newtown at the 26 mile point.
The last mile of the marathon was dedicated to the victims of the Newtown shooting. Family members were at the race near the finish line but no injuries to those families have been reported.
There was no indication that anyone in the group was injured, and an Associated Press reporter told MSNBC that a family who was seated in the VIP section near the finish line was not hurt.
