The 25th Congressional District race is over.

Rep. Dan Maffei conceded the race to Republican challenger Ann Marie Buerkle, Buerkle’s campaign confirmed Tuesday afternoon.

A press conference is planned for 4 p.m.

With most of the votes counted except for a few hundred challenged ballots, Buerkle won with 567 votes over one-term incumbent Maffei.

Maffei issued a statement this afternoon thanking the residents of the 25th for the opportunity to serve.

“I served every day honored to live in a community where a shy kid of modest means from a proud Syracuse family and a graduate of the Syracuse public schools could grow up to earn the trust of his community to represent you in Congress,” Maffei said in the statement. “And I learned from you every day, listening to your stories and working tirelessly on your behalf.”

This makes 63 pick-ups for the Republican Party and 242 seats in the House, the most they’ve held in more than 60 years.

The Left Coast Rebel has more on the race.
