Barack Obama called radical Shirley Sherrod today to discuss Bill Ayers apologize for firing her for her racist remarks at an NAACP event in March.
The Wall Street Journal Blog reported:
President Barack Obama called Shirley Sherrod, the fired African American Agriculture Department official today, to personally express his regret over her treatment by his administration, the White House announced.
Sherrod, who was fired for allegedly racist remarks captured on an edited videotape, had asked for a phone call from the president on a round of television appearances this morning. She said she was still considering Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack’s offer of a new, more high-powered job at the department, but wanted to discuss her situation with Obama.
The president reached her at 12:35 p.m. EDT and talked for about seven minutes, White House aides said. He stressed that Vilsack was sincere in his apology Wednesday.
“The President told Ms. Sherrod that this misfortune can present an opportunity for her to continue her hard work on behalf of those in need, and he hopes that she will do so,” the White House said in a statement.
