From Poland’s The News:

The RIA Novosti agency reports that the body was found near the wreckage of the Tupolev Tu-154 presidential plane. Ninety six people died in the accident, which occurred early Saturday morning, as a Polish delegation made their way to the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre near Smolensk, western Russia.

Spokesman for Poland’s Foreign Ministry Piotr Paszkowski and spokesman for the Presidential Chancellery Jacek Sasin have both confirmed the deaths of Lech Kaczynski and his wife Maria.

Earlier, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said all the bodies found at the site will be taken to Moscow for formal identification.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk expressed his shock after hearing of not just the death of the President of Poland but many military top brass and political leaders.

“The world has never seen such a tragedy,” PM Tusk said. “The presidential couple, heads of important political institutions, commanders of the armed forces, crew members, deputy-speakers of parliament…they died for us.”
