The Iranian regime says
Iran’s Rooz Online reported:
In a live television program that was broadcasted on channel one of state television on July 9, Ahmadinejad announced, “The June 12th election was the cleanest and freest election,” as his attempt to defend the Interior Ministry against criticism of widely-accepted electoral fraud. Ahmadinejad said, “The Interior Ministry plays only a supporting role. Our country’s election law allows for election executors, administrators and supervisors to be selected from the people. The election belongs to the people.”
In this live television program, which was orchestrated mostly in defense of the recent election’s administration, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said, “This election was the cleanest and freest election in the world because during the re-count no fault was discovered. Those who claimed that there was fraud didn’t present even a single such document. The whole nation understood this.”
The head of Iran’s ninth administration made these remarks on Tuesday while the night before, Mehdi Karoubi and Mir-Hossein Mousavi, two candidates who have openly rejected the election’s results, in a meeting also attended by Seyyed Mohammad Khatami, once again reiterated their protest to the election fraud, emphasizing that Ahmadinejad’s government was illegal and lacked legitimacy.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has thus far received congratulatory notes from only 30 out of more than 200 countries around the world, said in his televised address on Tuesday, “Many of my colleagues and world presidents noted two things in their congratulatory phone calls to me. First, that the show of democracy put up by the Iranian nation was unprecedented and a model for the whole world; and second, that the Iranian people’s election will serve as the source for great development in the region and the world.”
