If Jerusalem is turned over to the Palestinians and Israel pulls back to the 1967 borders then Hamas will live in peace! Jimmy Carter says it’s true!
The Jerusalam Post reported:
IDF soldier Cpl. Gilad Schalit is in good condition, and will be allowed to send another letter to his family in the near future, Damascus-based Hamas chief Khalid Mashaal told former US President Jimmy Carter during their meeting late Sunday night.
Carter met with Shas chairman Eli Yishai on Monday morning in Jerusalem where he related the news, and added that the Islamic group would agree to transfer Schalit to Egyptian custody as part of a prisoner release deal, should one be moderated through a third-party.
In response, Yishai told the former president that he would make sure to organize a trip to Egypt at the first chance that he gets.
“At the end of my meeting with Carter he gave an update to Schalit’s father, Noam, on the developments,” Yishai said on Monday. “I asked Carter to tell Hamas officials that the letter should be sent during Pessah, but it seems it will only be sent afterwards…
“There’s no doubt that both the Arab world and Hamas will accept Israel’s right to exist in peace within 1967 borders,” he said, adding that the Islamic group was prepared to “live as a neighbor next door in peace.” He also stated that the group was ready to accept a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza.
I look forward to hear how this plays out in Israel.
Did anyone ask Jimmah if Hamas is now ready ro recognize Israel?
Interesting… Hamas offered the same “peace” deal in 2006.
WND reported in February, 2006:
Meshaal’s comments follow a WND exclusive interview two weeks ago in which a top Hamas leader, using in some cases the same language as Meshaal, said his group will soon make public a “peace initiative” in which it will offer to trade strategic land with Israel, cease attempts to capture parts of Jerusalem and sign a 10-year renewable truce with the Jewish state with the aim of later destroying Israel.
“[Hamas would] possibly give a long-term truce with Israel,” said Meshaal in an interview yesterday from Egypt. “This is a position that Hamas could take, but not now, only after Israel recognizes the rights of the Palestinians, to show and confirm its willingness to withdraw to the 1967 borders.”
In other news… Palestinian backing for terrorist attacks continues to rise.
UPDATE: Hamas says messenger messed up message, via Yid with Lid:
Just hours after former President Jimmy Carter trumpeted Hamas’ agreement to let Israel “live as a neighbor,” the same terrorist leader he met with face-to-face vowed not to recognize the Jewish state.
Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal says his militant Islamic group will not recognize Israel but will accept a Palestinian state on pre-1967 borders.
Mashaal says the future Palestinian state must have Jerusalem as its “genuine, sovereign” capital. He did not say whether he meant the eastern, Arab section, or the entire city. He spoke at a news conference Monday in Damascus.
In fact… Hamas is offering same truce it offered in 2006.
Nice work, James.
UPDATE 2: Carter’s trip causes more violence.
