Ferraro Quits Clinton Campaign– Says Obama Blocking Her Freedom of Speech
Another Democrat resigned today…
Geraldine Ferraro defended her “racist” comments about Barack Obama on FOX News earlier today:
She resigned later this afternoon from Hillary Clinton’s campaign complaining that her freedom of speech had been trampled on by the Obama campaign.
Former Democratic vice-presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro stepped down from the Hillary Clinton Campaign after she had the gall to suggest that Barack Obama was only leading the Democratic race because he is black while her candidate was just a woman.
The BBC reported:
A Hillary Clinton adviser has resigned over her comment that Barack Obama would not be ahead in the race for the White House if he were not black.
Geraldine Ferraro, a vice-presidential candidate in 1984, announced she was stepping down from an honorary role on Mrs Clinton’s finance committee.
Earlier, she had told US network ABC that her remarks had been “spun by the Obama campaign as racist” but were not.
Mr Obama in turn rejected the idea that being black was a big advantage.
Mrs Clinton has distanced herself from the comments, quoted in a US newspaper interview last week.
CNN has more on the resignation letter sent to the Clinton campaign blaming the Obama campaign for the fracas:
“I am stepping down from your finance committee so I can speak for myself and you can continue to speak for yourself about what is at stake in this campaign,” Ferraro wrote in a letter to Clinton.
“The Obama campaign is attacking me to hurt you. I won’t let that happen.”
Ferraro told CNN she sent the letter to Clinton Wednesday afternoon.
The former congresswoman also criticized the Obama campaign for efforts she characterized as trying to block her First Amendment rights.
…Ferraro also told ABC’s “Good Morning America” that “every time” someone makes a negative comment about Obama, they are accused of racism.
Farraro also claims she was only attacked “because she was white”:
“Any time anybody does anything that in any way pulls this campaign down and says let’s address reality and the problems we’re facing in this world, you’re accused of being racist, so you have to shut up,” she told the Daily Breeze of Torrance, California. “Racism works in two different directions. I really think they’re attacking me because I’m white. How’s that?”
Barack Obama says that Farraro is dividing Democrats.
“Black” trumps “Woman”- again.
