Mahmoud was back at it again today assuring his Syrian guests that the demise of the US and Israel is near and imminent.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Mualem here on Tuesday assured that the United States and the Zionist regime of Israel will soon come to the end of their lives.
According to a statement released by the Presidential Press Office, Ahmadinejad further noted the frequent failure of the plots of the hegemonic system in the Middle-East region, and said that the demise of the US and Zionist regime is imminent.
He further called on the Islamic and Arab states to pave the way for the empowerment of independent and popular governments and establishment of stability, security and progress in the region through enhancing their solidarity, cooperation, unity, resistance and vigilance.
Meanwhile, the leading Ayatollahs must have shifted their stance on Mahmoud. Another prominent Ayatollah lashed out at his record today.

His main political rival, former president Hashemi Rafsanjani, implicitly criticised his slow move towards privatisation of the economy.
Hardliners in parliament also appear split with many of Mr Ahmadinejad’s former supporter now critical of him.
It is becoming clear that the green light has been given from the very top for open debate of President Ahmadinejad’s record in power.
Normally compliant newspaper editorials have suddenly started criticising his handling of the economy and his undiplomatic language.
