Laura Bush is a huge hit as she makes the rounds this week to raise money for Republican candidates.
In Chicago earlier this week the very popular Laura Bush raised $225,000 for Peter Roskam:
The intense national spotlight on the 6th Congressional District contest shone once again Monday as first lady Laura Bush jetted in to raise $225,000 for Republican candidate Peter Roskam.
“Peter understands that our country faces challenges too important to be reduced just to politics,” the first lady told the crowd of nearly 300 during a luncheon fundraiser at Medinah Banquets in Addison.
Democratic candidate Tammy Duckworth countered Roskam’s high-profile event Monday by introducing the issue of class into the race and claiming she’s “a long shot” to win Nov. 7.
The first lady’s appearance was the latest in a series by political celebrities in both parties who’ve raised money in the 6th District.
The race is being closely watched nationally as one of a few dozen contests that will determine whether Republican Speaker Dennis Hastert of Plano continues in his role or Democrats take over for the first time in a dozen years.
God help us!
Peter Roskam had an easier time getting the First Lady to come to town than he has had debating his liberal opponent.
Roskam is sharpening his skills debating the empty chair of his opponent, Tammy Duckworth, who refuses to show up for the debates!
