Delta Airlines Cancels 90 Christmas Eve Flights Citing Omicron and Weather Issues

Weren’t airliners’ vaccine mandates supposed to prevent disruptions like this?

First United, now Delta Airlines.

Delta Air on Thursday evening cancelled 90 Christmas Eve flights citing Omicron and weather issues.

“Delta teams have exhausted all options and resources — including rerouting and substitutions of aircraft and crews to cover scheduled flying — before canceling around 90 flights for Friday. We apologize to our customers for the delay in their holiday travel plans,” Delta Air said in a statement. “Delta people are working hard to get them to where they need to be as quickly and as safely as possible on the next available flight.”

United Airlines on Thursday announced it is cancelling flights due to a spike in Omicron cases that had an impact on flight crews.

134 Christmas Eve United flights have been cancelled so far.
