UPDATE: Official statement by Medstar Washington Hospital Center released Wednesday night confirms previous reports:
Congressman Steve Scalise sustained a single rifle shot to the left hip. The bullet travelled across his pelvis, fracturing bones, injuring internal organs, and causing severe bleeding. He was transported in shock to MedStar Washington Hospital Center, a Level I Trauma Center. He underwent immediate surgery, and an additional procedure to stop bleeding. He has received multiple units of blood transfusion. His condition is critical, and he will require additional operations.”
Two GOP congressmen have told the media that House Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) had to have a second operation Wednesday afternoon following the shooting at a Congressional Republican baseball practice early Wednesday morning in Alexandria, Virginia that wounded him in the hip.

Scalise is being treated at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. The hospital had posted info about Scalise’s condition before the second surgery, “Rep. Scalise was critically injured and remains in critical condition. The other patient is in good condition.”

Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) told Greta Van Susteren on her MSNBC show that Scalise was losing blood and had to have a second operation.

Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-MN) told KSTP-TV reporter Tom Hauser, “he visited Congressman Scalise in hospital. Says he had 2nd surgery and was in ICU…Paulsen says Scalise was unconscious and not able to talk to him. Tells me Scalise will likely need another surgery.”

The shooter, liberal anti-Trump, anti-GOP, Bernie Sanders activist James T. Hodgkinson was shot dead by police.
In addition to Scalise, those shot were Matt Mika, the director of government relations for the Washington office of Tyson Foods and a former congressional staff member who was shot twice in the chest; Zachary Barth, a staffer for Rep. Roger Williams (R-TX), who was hit in the leg by a bullet and was treated and released; two Capitol Police officers who were part of Scalise’s security detail were wounded in the attack: Officer Crystal Griner was shot in the ankle, Officer David Bailey sustained minor injuries and was also treated and released.
