Majority of Americans Agree With Ben Carson on Opposing Muslim as US President

A Huffington Post-YouGov poll released Friday shows a majority of Americans agree with Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson in not wanting a Muslim to be United States president. The poll comes after a week of pounding on Carson by the media and political elites condemning him for his statement.

57 percent agreed with the statement, “I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation.” Only 27 percent did not agree with 17 percent not sure.

The statement was then identified as being made by Carson with the question then being should Carson apologize. Only 30 percent said Carson should apologize with 52 percent saying no and 17 percent not sure.

Rather than trumpet Americans involved in a decades long war with Islamist terrorists agreeing with Carson, the Huffington Post chose to attack Americans as bigots in its article about the poll with the headline and subheadline: Poll Shows Americans’ Double Standard For Muslim Candidates, Most think it’s unfair to oppose a candidate based on their religion — as long as it’s Christianity.

Huffington Post focused on two rotating questions asking if it was fair or unfair to oppose a candidate based on their being Muslim or Christian.

74 percent said it was unfair to oppose Christian candidates. Only 45 percent said it was unfair to oppose Muslim candidates.

Only 25 percent have a favorable view of Islam. 57 percent have an unfavorable view with 26 percent not sure.

83 percent of Republican voters agreed with Carson’s statement opposing a Muslim president with 54 percent of independents agreeing. Interestingly only 35 percent of Democrats disagree with Carson while 41 percent agree and 21 percent are not sure.

A Google News search shows only the Huffington Post reported on the poll.

The poll was of 1000 adults with a margin of error of 4 percent and was conducted September 22 and 23. The party breakdown was about 360 Democrats, 390 independents and 248 Republicans. Poll with demographic breakdown here.

One more item from the poll showed the failure of the media and political elites to tell voters what to do and what to believe. YouGov asked about the anti-Muslim/anti-Obama question posed to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump at a recent town hall meeting and whether Trump “had an obligation to challenge” the man. The media and political elites pounded Trump all week as they did Carson for failing to uphold their mandated narrative for Islam and Obama.

“As you may know, a supporter of Donald Trump made the following statement when asking Trump a question at a rally:

““We have a problem in this country: it’s called Muslims. We know our current president is one. You know he’s not even an American. Birth certificate, man! … But anyway, we have training camps growing where they want to kill us. That’s my question: when can we get rid of ’em?”

“Do you think Donald Trump had an obligation to challenge that person?”

Only 40 percent said Trump should have challenged the man. 43 percent said Trump was not obliged to challenge him while 17 percent were not sure.

No wonder the media is ignoring this poll.
