The sickest and weakest people I’ve know are vegans. In fact one of the militant types (like the biatch in the video) almost died from bleeding out from his blood breaking down due to a lack of iron in his diet. The medical expenses he had racked up with that event was more than the rest of his coworkers had over the last ten years…the same coworkers he had bludgeoned incessantly for being ‘unhealthy’ and ‘evil meat eaters’.

He once tried to get us banned from eating meat in his presence for being ‘offensive’ to him so we invited the HR lady up one day to smell the putrescence that was his lunch that we’d been putting up with for years — it smelled like a what I’d imagine a microwaved soggy, dirty jockstrap would and that smell lingered for hours. The HR lady told him that people have the right to eat what they want if he had a problem with watching people eat meat then don’t watch them. She also told him that he was lucky his coworkers were so tolerant of him because we had the right to file a formal complaint about the stench his food was putting out.

I should mention that the man was also OCD and was taking anti-depression and antipsychotic drugs that were prescribed by his psychologist. He’d tried to commit suicide twice and been hospitalized for that, too. He died a year ago at the age of 52 from a massive stroke brought about by a severe sodium deficiency in his diet. No surprise there because his latest fad was railing against the ‘evils’ of salt in the diet.

If you actually watch the video she’s not truly calling for meat eaters to be killed. She’s just making a strong point that the human race needs to step up and do the right thing. I empathize with her frustration. I mean, how many beings who are equally deserving of life are killed every day for human pleasure? As a vegan, I believe we should live and let live. It’s just frustrating when others of your own species don’t actively follow this philosophy, much to their own detriment.

The problem here is, not everyone (I, for instance) subscribe to your premise to begin with. I’m fully aware we kill animals. And as long as it’s for food and clothing, or to test vital medicines that help people afterwards, I have no problem with it, whatsoever.

It’s therefore I find it a bit offensive that she acts as if people who do not ‘turn’ into a veganist is because they are lacklustre and haven’t made up their mind or don’t understand ‘what it means’ and have or get ‘their act together’. That is nonsense. I’m fully aware and conscious of the issue, and I still do not wish to become a veganist. Within a certain set of conditions, I have no problems with humans killing animals for specific purposes.

The basic difference in viewpoint is thus, that, while I do regard animals as living creatures (plants too, btw, but you never see a vegan realise this), I do not regard animals as being equal to humans. This does not mean I promote torture or killing just for the sport of it (fox-hunting, for instance), nor do I condone excesses, but I see no moral deficit in making the evaluation that animals are not equal to humans, and thus, if push comes to shove, they shouldn’t be treated as equals neither. I think we’re being overly specialised and devoid of how nature actually works here, but the fact of the matter is, that if you go to people who are ‘closest’ to nature, you’ll see that they don’t care nor ponder one iota about killing an animal for food. Tell the Eskimos they can’t eat meat and should become veganists, otherwise.

Yes, nowadays, in modern society, you *can* choose to go a different path, because a complex industry (which also kills a lot of animals by pollution, btw) is providing for the whims and leisures of veganists. Revert the situation; say, war breaks out, and all these veganists would scramble to eat meat once again, or die. It’s a luxury-problem, thus, and a choice you can only make in our modern society. Of course, there have been religious groups that have been vegetarians (not veganists) as well. But ultimately all this points to it being a personal choice, not a moral one which is generally applicable.

As a non-veganist, I believe we should let people be free to eat animals. I personally, draw the line at animals who have shown signs of self-consciousness (for instance, animals that can recognise themselves in the mirror as being themselves). But that’s a personal matter and choice, just like veganism is to another.

What I find frustrating, is that other people of your own species think they can or should impose their choice on someone else, to be frank. And even if it were true that it would be to my detriment because it’s unhealthy, then still I subscribe to the libertarian notion that a person has the right to live unhealthy.

So, no, I’m not swayed by the arguments of veganists, and while I respect their choice, it would seem it’s not always vice versa.
