FLASHBACK: ABC News Warns NYC Will Be Under Water by 2015 Due to Global Warming and Polar Bears Will Fall From Sky

Seven years ago ABC News warned viewers that New York City will be under water by 2015 due to global warming.

New York City underwater? Gas over $9 a gallon? A carton of milk costs almost $13? Welcome to June 12, 2015. Or at least that was the wildly-inaccurate version of 2015 predicted by ABC News exactly seven years ago. Appearing on Good Morning America in 2008, Bob Woodruff hyped Earth 2100, a special that pushed apocalyptic predictions of the then-futuristic 2015. The segment included supposedly prophetic videos, such as a teenager declaring, “It’s June 8th, 2015.

One carton of milk is $12.99.” (On the actual June 8, 2015, a gallon of milk cost, on average, $3.39.) Another clip featured this prediction for the current year: “Gas reached over $9 a gallon.”

Oh, and polar bears will fall from the sky.

I’m sure a follow-up report is in the making, they just haven’t hyped it yet. In the meantime, I won’t hold my breath.

Our lousy US media caught in another leftard propaganda fib.

“Doom and gloom and and and hand over your money/entire life savings and vote for gullable warming or you’re a RAYSISSS” – [the left creed].

  • saturn

2008? So they thought the election of Obama would cause global warming and gas prices of $9.

  • Prosoldier

I doubt global warming will be the culprit, but I wouldn’t necessarily rule out some of the other things just yet, especially in light of everything scheduled to happen around this coming September. If you want to mock and ridicule, I’d at least wait until the new “worry period” is over lest you look like a moron in a few months if something does happen.

  • keystonepipe

Would it not be great if Disney ..who own ABC will both end up under water financially…..along with their Demotrat friends

  • Scottj

Disney scared the hell out of a lot of gullible people, yet they did nothing to prepare their Orlando operations for definitely being underwater?

I don’t get it. It’s almost as if they were just flat out lying?

  • Mark

What? Another blow-it-out-your-arse moment for Eco-demagogues? Global warming is beginning to take on all the characteristics of failure present in a Marxist state, i.e. it’s BS.

  • Teddi

Help ! The eco-freaks are killing all my friends !

Award winning Princeton University Physicist Dr. Will Happer declared man-made global warming fears to be “a house of cards”

“This is truly a mad issue,” Happer told the crowd of several hundred at the global warming skeptic conference in Washington DC on Thursday night. The event was sponsored by the Heartland Institute. Happer has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific studies.

“Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant, nor will it cause catastrophic global warming,” Happer explained to the audience at the The Tenth International Conference on Climate Change (#ICCC10).

“This whole climate scare is a house of cards,” Happer said.

Fear mongering to oppress the “masses”. Typical leftist social control.

  • Allan

Not even the leftists actually believe this drivel. All they try to do is instill enough fear into the sheep so they contribute money or support leftist legislative causes.

  • AZfederalist

No, really? Disney lied? Why, you could knock me over with a feather, I’m just so surprised by that. Next thing you’ll be telling me they are going to replace their American IT staff with H1B workers and make the American workers train their replacements.

  • AZfederalist

    Thank goodness for 2010, eh?

  • Mad Hatter

The Chicken Little Brigade have been freaking out over the past 20 plus years, yet, nothing they say has ever come true. The more they shriek their paranoid delusions about ‘climate change’ the more people laugh at them.

  • Ever the skeptic

Hyperbole in defense of alarm is no vice; reasoned thinking in pursuit of climate justice is no virtue.

  • Chad Cooper

At least predict this type of crap 100 years into the future so you don’t have to be totally embarrassed when your fallacy doesn’t come to pass 🙂 HAHAHAHA. Idiots.

What, like Polar Bears falling from the sky?

Please tell us more – I and others certainly don’t want to look like morons in September!

    Or that they own ABC…..

wait. A dippy montage and far fetched comments from a nitwit teenager are your basis for climate change is hoax. Umm, were there any, um, you know, scientists in there? And making claims about NYC being underwater by this year? Please do share if so.

  • gfjmcginnis

I’m still waiting for the flying card like on the Jestsons

  • glenn47

Pretty funny considering records for the last 20 years prove no warming, there is more ice on the cap than ever before and the polar bears a thriving.
Liars lying to the people for personal gain.

  • don_xvi

I understand everyone wants to believe this headline is legit, but the video doesn’t have a prediction that NYC will be under water, and the part with the kid talking about $9/gallon milk is so poorly edited in as to be farcical (note that the time/temperature logo at the bottom of the screen had the same fade out effect as the rest of the screen when the main part of the video switched to the tiny letterbox format for the part with the kid.)
Prove you’re smart and don’t gleefully accept poorly-faked content just because you agree with the message.

  • AndyTK

It truly amazes me that people do not even do a surface check before posting stuff that seems outrageous. Take this rightwing news story that has been making the rounds on various websites. If you hold your nose and follow the link they provide a video from the original ABC story, or what they purport to be the original ABC story as the video isn’t from ABC and I cannot verify that it isn’t a fake. Anyway if you watch that short video nowhere in it does it claim that NYC will be under water by 2015. They count on people never bothering to even watch the video to check that the head line claim is actually made! They incorrectly predict high gas and milk prices and correctly predict that there will be stronger storms, more floods, more wild fires and more droughts. As for the Polar Bears falling from the sky ala-Sharknado well that wasn’t from ABC but from an ad from an environmental group that was representing the amount of carbon produced from the average airline flight as about the same as the weight of a polar bear. You’d have to be an idiot to think that they claimed that polar bears would actually be falling from the sky. Certainly ABC News never made that claim.

  • Jonathan Brooks

Polarbearnado-in 3D. Just when you thought you were safe from falling sharks. Where is your chainsaw now?

  • Jonathan Brooks

Just go with it. Satire is fun. Mocking Al Gore is more fun. Freezing Al Gore in Liquid Nitrogen is just too far…..same with putting a polar bear head on his bed like the scene from Godfather.

  • Deron Reid

    Is NYC still underwater?

And was that the 1st hurricane to hit that part of the world?

  • Tony Lear

There is no increase in droughts or floods, wildfires or storm intensity just look at what the IPCC says in it’s latest report.

    The IPCC found that there
“is limited evidence of changes in extremes associated with other
climate variables since the mid-20th century” and current data shows “no
significant observed trends in global tropical cyclone frequency over
the past century. … No robust trends in annual numbers of tropical
storms, hurricanes and major hurricanes counts have been identified over
the past 100 years in the North Atlantic basin.”

The IPCC also said “there continues to be a lack of evidence and thus low
confidence regarding the sign of trend in the magnitude and/or
frequency of floods on a global scale” adding “that there is not enough
evidence at present to suggest more than low confidence in a
global-scale observed trend in drought or dryness (lack of rainfall).
