Off-Duty Police Officer Shot Multiple Times in North St. Louis

A 28 year-old off-duty police officer was shot dead in North St. Louis on Friday afternoon.

FOX 2 reported:

A 28-year-old off-duty police officer has been shot in the Hyde Park neighborhood in North St. Louis. The shooting happened at around 4pm at 22nd street and Breman.

Police say that the officer was shot multiple times. It is not clear if he returned fire. He was shot in the lower extremities and his injuries do not appear to be life threatening. The St. Louis Municipal Department says the officer is in critical but stable condition.

Police are not sure exactly what prompted the attack on the officer. He was driving his personal car north on 25th street when people in a car coming south opened fire. Police recovered physical evidence at the scene and they have the officer’s own car which was struck several times by bullets. He probably won’t be able to speak about what happened until Saturday.

“We don`t know what transpired but the occupants of the other vehicle opened fire he was struck a number of times. He drove a short distance where someone else took over his vehicle. We think it was someone who was not inside the car with him at that time. They then drove him to the hospital where he was taken into surgery.” said Capt. Michael Sack of the St. Louis Police Department.
