Majority Leader McCarthy: House Will Secure Border and Reunite Families

At a press conference in Peoria, IL for former congressman Bobby Schilling, new House majority leader Kevin McCarthy stated that the House of Representatives will pass measures in the coming days and weeks that will help secure the southern border with Mexico and that the thousands of illegal immigrant families will be reunited.

Estimates are that 57,000 unaccompanied illegal immigrant minors have entered the US in the last few months, many coming believing that the Obama administration won’t deport them and will instead grant them amnesty, and that doesn’t even include the much larger number of adult illegal immigrants that have been coming over the border as well.

A working group of lawmakers established by Speaker John Boehner is looking at crafting an emergency appropriations bill that would include sending the National Guard to the Texas-Mexico border, making changes to a 2008 law that inhibits the speedy deportation of individuals from Central and South America, bringing in more immigration Judges, as well as measures to further secure the border.

Texas Senator Ted Cruz has his own legislation in the Senate that would further address the problems on the border.
