Lavrentiy Beria was a Soviet politician and the longest lived and most influential of Stalin’s secret police chiefs. He was the subject of a significant number of rape and sexual assault allegations.
Beria was also the mastermind of the Katyn massacre a series of mass executions of Polish nationals carried out in April and May 1940. The number of victims is estimated at about 22,000.
