Breaking: Shooting At Virginia Mall, Two Women Injured UPDATE: Alleged Suspect, Neil MacInnis

Two women were injured today in a shooting at a community college satellite, located in a Christiansburg, Virginia shopping mall.  One was airlifted to the hospital, the other was taken by ambulance.  A suspect is in custody.

A suspect is in custody after a shooting at the New River Valley Mall in Christiansburg.

Two women are wounded.

The call came into emergency services around 2 p.m., Friday, about a person with a gun at the New River Community College satellite location in the mall.

Police tell us the caller reported hearing shots fired.

When police arrived, two women were found with gunshot wounds.  One was airlifted to the hospital and other was taken by ambulance.

Their conditions and identities are unknown right now.

According to the Associated Press, a spokeswoman for the town of Christiansburg said authorities do not believe there’s any continuing threat to the community at large.

Montgomery County Schools were briefly locked down as a precaution.
Officials did not provide any other information about the suspected shooter that was taken into custody.
Update:  The suspect is identified as Neil MacInnes.  Prior to the shooting, MacInnes announced his intentions on a message board.  He was concerned the media would not report his shooting accurately.

According to Gawker, the person identified himself as Neil MacInnis, and described the details of the attack mere minutes before the shooting occurred.

“… I go to New River Community College in Christiansburg, Virgina, 10 minutes away from Virginia Tech,” the post, reportedly published at 1:52 p.m. and obtained by Gawker read. “I’m gonna give y’all the details because the news never gets it right.”.

The poster goes on to say that he will have a Stevens 320 shotgun, as well as buck shots and slugs, and includes a link to what he claims is his ePortfolio.

The poster added, “I’m a bit nervous because I’ve never really handled a shotgun but a few times with the Christiansburg police.”
