US Catholic Bishops to Continue Support for HHS Lawsuits Against Obama Administration

At the vice presidential debate in October Joe Biden said the Obama Administration was not being sued by the Catholic Church.

Joe Biden lied.
There are currently several lawsuits against the HHS regulation.

And the US Catholic bishops will continue to support the many lawsuits against the Obama Administration’s regulation.
CNS News reported:

Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, issued a statement on Thursday signaling to the Obama Administration that the bishops will not make a separate deal to exempt Catholic institutions from an Obamacare mandate that requires health-care plans to cover sterilizations, contraceptives and abortion-inducing drugs that leaves lay Catholic business owners and individual employees still subject to the mandate.

“In obedience to our Judeo-Christian heritage, we have consistently taught our people to live their lives during the week to reflect the same beliefs that they proclaim on the Sabbath,” said Cardinal Dolan. “We cannot now abandon them to be forced to violate their morally well-informed consciences.”

The cardinal said the bishops will also continue to support the many lawsuits against the regulation–including those brought by private busineses–that are moving forward in federal courts around the country.

The Catholic Association, a group of Catholic laypersons dedicated to advancing the principles of the Catholic Church, issued a statement supporting the bishops’ stand in defending the religious freedom of all Americans.

“We stand with the bishops today in rejecting the proposed ‘accommodation’ which still violates the religious freedom of Americans,” said The Catholic Association.

At least 26 states have laws requiring insurers that cover prescription drugs also provide coverage for any Food and Drug Administration (FDA)–approved contraceptive. These states include: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin. An additional two states—Michigan and Montana—require insurance coverage of contraceptives as a result of administrative ruling or an Attorney General opinion. Two states—Texas and Virginia—require that employers be offered the option to include coverage of contraceptives within their health plans.

Twenty-one states offer exemptions from contraceptive coverage, usually for religious reasons, for insurers or employers in their policies: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan (administrative rule), Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Texas and West Virginia. Several states require employers to notify employees of their refusal to provide contraceptive coverage.

However, in February 2012, President Obama announced a final policy to exempt churches and similar organizations from covering contraception on the basis of their religious objections and instead, requiring employers’ insurance companies to offer contraception coverage to women directly and free of charge.

Today, lay Catholic business owners and individual employees are still subject to the mandate. This was part of the calculated February-2012 move that the Administration hopes will defeat the influence and docrtines of the Catholic churches (Divide the people that ARE the church, and conquer).

Did you ever, in your born days, think that you and your churches would be forced to defend the life of an innocent unborn child from your own Government? Not me.

And yet, Cuomo, Biden, Pelosi, et. al., are probably not denied Holy Eucharist. Because if their bishop had censured them for their stance against Church teachings, and forbidden them to receive, the Vintage Media would’ve been all over it.

Until there is a bishop thrown in jail for defending their Faith and its teachings, it just a big yawn.

    Lady Mondegreen commented:

“I have it directly from my bishop (an old, dear friend) that there is not as much unity here as might appear. Quite a few actually support the idea of the Mandate and would drop their opposition it if the language on abortion could be changed.”

    What language on abortion?

You have no idea what you are talking about.

What are you talking about? Abortions are not part of the mandate.

Why must you lie if you have a winnig argument? Religious freedom my foot. The freedom to openly lie in violation of Thou shalt not bear false witness…

This is the jockeying before the compromise. Catholics voted for Obama. The lawsuits are all on weak legal ground.

Two more going after Barry on what I was going to say was an UNrelated issue, but, NO, it’s also regarding Barry’s

It is a measure of how far we have fallen as a nation — not only that President Obama asserts and exercises such a terrible power, but that only 11 U.S. senators would be willing to affix their names to a letter to ask the Obama administration to provide its legal reasoning. If John Brennan is confirmed as CIA director, and the killings of U.S. citizens continue based on this whitewash of a white paper, then the U.S. Senate will have yielded up to the president without even a fight the power to kill citizens without judicial due process — a power that has been unknown in the English-speaking world for at least 370 years.
