US Catholic Bishops to Continue Support for HHS Lawsuits Against Obama Administration

At the vice presidential debate in October Joe Biden said the Obama Administration was not being sued by the Catholic Church.

Joe Biden lied.
There are currently several lawsuits against the HHS regulation.

And the US Catholic bishops will continue to support the many lawsuits against the Obama Administration’s regulation.
CNS News reported:

Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, issued a statement on Thursday signaling to the Obama Administration that the bishops will not make a separate deal to exempt Catholic institutions from an Obamacare mandate that requires health-care plans to cover sterilizations, contraceptives and abortion-inducing drugs that leaves lay Catholic business owners and individual employees still subject to the mandate.

“In obedience to our Judeo-Christian heritage, we have consistently taught our people to live their lives during the week to reflect the same beliefs that they proclaim on the Sabbath,” said Cardinal Dolan. “We cannot now abandon them to be forced to violate their morally well-informed consciences.”

The cardinal said the bishops will also continue to support the many lawsuits against the regulation–including those brought by private busineses–that are moving forward in federal courts around the country.

The Catholic Association, a group of Catholic laypersons dedicated to advancing the principles of the Catholic Church, issued a statement supporting the bishops’ stand in defending the religious freedom of all Americans.

“We stand with the bishops today in rejecting the proposed ‘accommodation’ which still violates the religious freedom of Americans,” said The Catholic Association.

“US Catholic Bishops to Continue Support for HHS Lawsuit’s Against Obama Administration”

Another big fat nothingburger that you will lose.

Where was the outrage when 27 states had the same mandate in place for the past 12 years?

Huh? It’s only infringing on religious libery when Obama does it, right?

Oh we’ll, it seems like jharp knows what’s best for everyone. It must be nice to be so intelligent and wise. I want to do as she says, for she knows best. Sarc off.

I hope the Bishops have a safe, hardened bunker – they’ve got to be #1 on OBOZO’s drone KILL LIST.

With you and the Gateway Pundits past record you’d be wise to listen to me.

What is it now? 30 in a row you’ve been wrong about?

Don’t count on Cardinal Dolan to do a Martin Niemoeller. As a Cardinal Mahony protege, he’ll do and say until it interferes with his ‘lifestyle’.

I’m not a Roman Catholic but hooray for the bishops!

    jharp,

You must be one of Barry’s “Cyber Warriors for Obama”, huh? Do they at least pay you minimum wage? Or do they pay you by letting you give Barryboy a Lewinsky every now and then, like when Reggie L. is out of town?

The bishops take a stand against secularism – they have my prayers and support. Jharp, when you actually write something meaningful, merciful and charitable – it will be the first. Please peddle your craziness elsewhere, where it may be lauded.

Two points. First, has anyone noticed the new interest in the pedophile discussion about the Catholic church and priests? It seems I have been seeing more and more shows or articles about this. Could it be a smear type campaign on the part of the left? Just a thought since I am sure the left (Obama in particular) is not very pleased that the bishops haven’t kowtowed to him completely.

Second, I’m starting to like having Harpy around. It’s like having our own built-in comic relief! It also shows me what I could have been like if I kept on smoking dope when I was younger.

OT but on related to our Constitutional rights. The next time some dunderhead says only cops should have guns, remember this. The cops out there on the left coast seem to be in panic mode which is not good for public safety.

I have it directly from my bishop (an old, dear friend) that there is not as much unity here as might appear. Quite a few actually support the idea of the Mandate and would drop their opposition it if the language on abortion could be changed.

  • Texas_Treeroach

At least 26 states have laws requiring insurers that cover prescription drugs also provide coverage for any Food and Drug Administration (FDA)–approved contraceptive. These states include: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin. An additional two states—Michigan and Montana—require insurance coverage of contraceptives as a result of administrative ruling or an Attorney General opinion. Two states—Texas and Virginia—require that employers be offered the option to include coverage of contraceptives within their health plans.

Twenty-one states offer exemptions from contraceptive coverage, usually for religious reasons, for insurers or employers in their policies: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan (administrative rule), Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Texas and West Virginia. Several states require employers to notify employees of their refusal to provide contraceptive coverage.

However, in February 2012, President Obama announced a final policy to exempt churches and similar organizations from covering contraception on the basis of their religious objections and instead, requiring employers’ insurance companies to offer contraception coverage to women directly and free of charge.

Today, lay Catholic business owners and individual employees are still subject to the mandate. This was part of the calculated February-2012 move that the Administration hopes will defeat the influence and docrtines of the Catholic churches (Divide the people that ARE the church, and conquer).

Did you ever, in your born days, think that you and your churches would be forced to defend the life of an innocent unborn child from your own Government? Not me.

  • Vicky Hernandez

    Yaaaaaawn.

And yet, Cuomo, Biden, Pelosi, et. al., are probably not denied Holy Eucharist. Because if their bishop had censured them for their stance against Church teachings, and forbidden them to receive, the Vintage Media would’ve been all over it.

Until there is a bishop thrown in jail for defending their Faith and its teachings, it just a big yawn.

    What language on abortion?

You have no idea what you are talking about.

What are you talking about? Abortions are not part of the mandate.

Why must you lie if you have a winnig argument? Religious freedom my foot. The freedom to openly lie in violation of Thou shalt not bear false witness…

This is the jockeying before the compromise. Catholics voted for Obama. The lawsuits are all on weak legal ground.

  • Look-Out

Two more going after Barry on what I was going to say was an UNrelated issue, but, NO, it’s also regarding Barry’s

COMFORT WITH KILLING: “I’M GOD…I SAY WHO LIVES, WHO DIES” —

It is a measure of how far we have fallen as a nation — not only that President Obama asserts and exercises such a terrible power, but that only 11 U.S. senators would be willing to affix their names to a letter to ask the Obama administration to provide its legal reasoning. If John Brennan is confirmed as CIA director, and the killings of U.S. citizens continue based on this whitewash of a white paper, then the U.S. Senate will have yielded up to the president without even a fight the power to kill citizens without judicial due process — a power that has been unknown in the English-speaking world for at least 370 years.
