The lights went out the Super Dome tonight.

Some fans did the wave to pass the time. Players milled around on the sidelines, some took a seat on the bench, other on the field. A few of the Ravens threw footballs around.

Officials gathered on the field and appeared to be talking to stadium personnel. Finally, the lights came back on throughout the stadium, which appeared to have been operating on auxiliary power.

There was no immediate explanation for the power failure, which apparently was limited to the Superdome. The lights were on along the main thoroughfare outside the stadium.

Crazy things have been happening here for going on more than a week now.

That’s what happens when you don’t spend moany to update and maintain our infrastructure.

New Orleans has been ‘devastated’ by Hurricane Katrina and is in ‘recovery’ mode. This is just more evidence that it needs more government funds to rebuild its infrastructure. It is predominantly an African-American ‘chocolate’ city and many of its residents receive life saving assistance in the way of food stamps and subsidized housing. The paltry amount of federal funds it has received since Katrina has been linked by many outside observers as evidence OF RACISM by Republicans who control the House of Representatives.

    Sorry. Forgot to add.

I think it is disgraceful that during the biggest sports spectacle in the greatest country in the world we can’t keep the lights on.

Obama’s fault, right? And as a direct result of too much govt spending and regulation, right?

Time to cut taxes. And more guns.

Did you put all those words together yourself? All three, one-sentence paragraphs? Did you think that comparison up on your own, ya know, about playing football in a homeless shelter? Such fourth column, sophisticated reporting. Your education wasn’t wasted on you.

habit must date back the the good old slave days.. / 🙁 s/

[The fact is large numbers of free Negroes owned black slaves; in fact,
in numbers disproportionate to their representation in society at large.
In 1860 only a small minority of whites owned slaves. According to the
U.S. census report for that last year before the Civil War, there were
nearly 27 million whites in the country. Some eight million of them lived
    in the slaveholding states.

The census also determined that there were fewer than 385,000
individuals who owned slaves . Even if all slaveholders had been
white, that would amount to only 1.4 percent of whites in the
country (or 4.8 percent of southern whites owning one or more
    slaves).

    [..]

According to federal census reports, on June 1, 1860 there were nearly
4.5 million Negroes in the United States, with fewer than four million of
them living in the southern slaveholding states. Of the blacks residing in
the South, 261,988 were not slaves. Of this number, 10,689 lived in New
Orleans. The country’s leading African American historian, Duke University
professor John Hope Franklin, records that in New Orleans over 3,000 free
Negroes owned slaves, or 28 percent of the free Negroes in that city.]

    It’s JHARP . . . at it again.
We really should stop and take note of how things have been going over the last few days at GP. .

Somehow, JHARP got into the GP kitchen – I don’t know how, or why — but she’s here with a vengeance. And she’s causing a lot of you some discomfort (also, discomfiture):

As soon as you see her droppings, there’s a natural reaction to stamp your feet, throw up your hands and start typing monologues meant to correct and resolve. That won’t work, you know.

She is playing you, and of course she knows the game quite well, albeit a juvenile game. With Salon and Huffington as political pillars for her, you know Jen (Jin, Jan, Jo – whatever) is on a poorly charted course with limited depth (It’s like Woody Allen once said: “I learned just enough philosophy in college to screw myself up for the rest of my life”) — Same thing.

    My advice?
Let Jen drop her droppings. And the rest of us can ignore her untidiness.
Besides, Jen is a busy girl, and has other haunts to haunt besides GP.

    Now . . . . This football game ain’t over yet!

  • Ghost

well find out what really happened when Spike Lee makes his movie about the, “Chocolate City BLACKout- yeeeah”.

but we can guess… Bush got his cronies to drive abandoned school buses into transformer stations devastating the 9th Ward which triggered starvation because all the food was taken by the white elites at the Rich Man’s Gam- then followed rapes and rioting in the French Quarter which frightened the wandering tourists who also couldn’t get in to see the Rich Man’s Game who then stormed the gates at the Superdome which then overflowed the bathrooms which then flooded the substation which then knocked out the lights.
Remember, Bush don’t like black people.

but then, James O’Keefe and Jason Mattera combine to make a rebuttal film explaining that this will happen at every Super Bowl game for the next 30 years because of Zero’s killing coal mines.

    I speculate, you decide

#38 – Don’t think you’re being censored. There have been problems with the comments here for days.

As far as Breitbart and Drudge are concerned, someone is playing games … either they hacked the site and uploaded some malware, or a bunch of jerks just made malware reports, which will often result in a temporary quarantine. I have to believe that this is a coordinated attack. The new Tea Party Community site was attacked this weekend too, with a denial of service assault, right in the middle of their national launch podcast.

So much for our first amendment rights. I guess it’s OK to attack web sites and suppress free speech as long as liberals are doing it … right?

THINK OF IT AS AN AD FOR OBAMA’S ETHIOPIAN POLICY for America’s FUTURE as he closed several dozen Power Plants this past year ALONE and already has OVER 200 MORE POWER PLANT CLOSURES SCHEDULED SOON – for plants with NOTHING WRONG WITH THEM except EPA levels new impossible regulations at them.

NOT RELATED TO SAFETY OR EFFICIENCY – AIMED SOLELY AT CLOSING THEM DOWN!

Obama’s ETHIOPIAN policies – NOT “UTOPIAN”! That is “ETHIOPIAN”!!!!

Too much wine, (no men as I’m married) and song tonight. It was a fitting tribute to those who really are not appreciated for the long hours and hard work to see that we have food on our tables. They are unique individuals who love God, the land, and what they do.

  • Sasja

Until the states and power plants start pushing back, this will continue. As far as I’m concerned, they should tell the EPA to stuff it.

Solyndra was in charge of power… Also liberals have run New Oleans so that tells you much of the story. Jharp, the infrastructure was supposed to be fixed with Obamas crooked stimulus bill…. Oh wait the money mostly went to states to pay off unions so they wouldn’t have to lay them off and experience the real Obama economy. Just another of Obamas many many lies.

If we weren’t spending so many billions on welfare parasite liberals, green energy scams and illegals Obama wants to grant amnesty to that cost billions we might have money to pay for more upgrades. Oh and that keystone pipeline would add a few billion dollars to the economy as well. But obigears the thief in chief skeet shooter hates energy and taxes and jobs made from it when he can simply print money from thin air nd put us further in debt.

Tell us more about your incredible insight of the accounting of Obama, the libs and the fed and the miracles they are performing? Loser

Really Jim? New Orleans has hosted seven SuperBowl games, and the fans have more fun in that city than any other city it’s ever been hosted in. In fact, Mardi Gras is going on right now; I bet alot of SuperBowl fans attended one of several parades that rolled over the weekend. Why must you be so freakin’ SNIDE? Yeah, I’ve about thrown in the towel on the GOP. They aren’t getting a dime from me. I know the left loves this split that’s forming, but I’m just not willing to keep throwing my support behind a party that doesn’t represent me or share my values. The GOP is obviously filled with corrupt career politicians and RINOS, and they’ve done nothing but let us down for years now. It’s time for a third party, and the sooner we realize that, the better. People say a third party will split the votes and guarantee Democrat victories for decades, but I disagree. I believe there are plenty of people currently voting Democrat or not voting at all just because they can’t stomach this nonsense in the GOP. Give them a solid, rational conservative to vote for, and they will flock to a third party along with millions of dissatisfied Republicans …

  • Highlander

GotFreedom, I just checked, and the site is currently set up as “invitation only”, thanks to a bunch of liberal jerks who invaded the site Sunday and launched a denial of service attack on it. It’s amazing … Facebook arrived on the scene, and Conservatives never even DREAMED of attacking the site and ruining it for everyone. They just joined like everyone else, and started using it, assuming that they would be treated fairly and equally.

Then, someone at Facebook decided to bring politics into play, and started censoring and harassing conservative users just for speaking their mind. They apparently have no problem with Sarah Palin hatred pages, or the endless stream of vulgar, nasty liberal commentary, but many conservative users including myself have been censored or banned simply for sticking up for ourselves or posting conservative or religious content that they claim violates their “community standards” … Of course, none of it was anywhere near as nasty or objectionable as some of the liberal pages I can direct you to.

So, someone finally got disgusted with the situation, and set up an alternative site where Conservative commentary is welcome, and what do the leftists do? They invade it and try to shut it down. The hypocrisy is stunning, and the complete lack of respect for the first amendment is especially disturbing. These people are obsessed with ramming their agenda down our throats, and they have no problem with breaking laws or trampling our Constitutional rights if they think it will advance that agenda.

The thing is, over half the people in this country don’t really share their obsession with progressive Socialism. The left thinks think they were handed a mandate in the last election, but that’s so far from the truth. There is a huge rift developing in this country between left and right, and this recent attack on the new Tea Party social site is clear evidence of that. If these unwarranted and senseless attacks continue, things can only get worse, and eventually, it’s going to get ugly…

  • Erik

Well, that’s kind of what you have to expect when you build a stadium to be powered by renewable energy and being “environmentally friendly”.
