Democrats Propose Selling Your Political Opinions to Credit Card Companies

After years of collecting data, Democrats are considering selling your political opinions to credit card companies.
Anything for a buck.
Propublica reported:

For years, state Democratic parties have been gathering information about individual voters’ political leanings. They have noted down the opinions voters shared with canvassers — which candidates they said they supported or their positions on policy issues.

Now, the record of what people told Democratic volunteers may go up for sale — and not just to political groups. Democrats are looking into whether credit card companies, retailers like Target or other commercial interests may want to buy the information.

State Democratic party leaders formed the National Voter File Co-op in 2011 to sell their voter data to approved groups like the NAACP. The goal was to recoup some of the money local Democratic parties spent collecting and updating their local voter lists, which include voters of all parties.

Much of the data the co-op sells comes from the government and is already part of the public record — information such as voters’ names, addresses and party affiliation.

But local Democratic parties also have information about voters’ views and preferences collected over many campaign cycles. (We wrote about Minnesota’s data-collecting “Grandma Brigade” last month.) Some states have used this raw data to create sophisticated estimates of how likely any voter is to vote for a Democrat, support Barack Obama or have certain opinions, say, on abortion or gun control.

    A database of the gullable.

    Who wouldn’t want that?

    Sounds like this only applies to dems dumb enough to give all this info to an unknown pollster. If that’s the case, fine with me.

    I just returned a “survey” where the survey company sent me money to fill out their form. Why? I didn’t like the “tone” of the questions. That act of returning their form may be the basis for future “surveys” that you may receive, and this damndemocrat plot – don’t participate.

    And this is a problem why?

    If it helps gets more democrats elected they cal sell my data to Sears, K Mart, Target Wal Mart, Dollar Tree, American Express and whomever in the hell else wants to donate to liberal causes.

  • It’s a problem because at least half of America doesn’t want you liberal communists’ vision for America. But then most likely you knew that already didn’t you, you little commie troll?

    Who is doing this? The Democratics? If I were a Democratic I would not want to continue to be a Democratic.

    DEMOCRAT PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    We live in a constitutional republic, with democratic institutions. One party took their name from “republic” and modified the term to describe the person “Republican.” The other party took their name from “democratic” (hence the letter “t” in “Democrat”) to describe the person in the party “Democrat.” When a Republican gets together with other Republicans it’s a Republican party. But for some strange reason, when Democrats get together with other Democrats, it’s called a Democratic party?!!!!

    It implies Republicans aren’t democratic. The term is being swept away from it’s original and correct meaning. Obfuscation is one of their most cherished tools.

    They redefine mass shooting: A drive by with one shot into a crowd is now a mass shooting.

    They defend mentally ill mothers raising boys as girls: Transgender children (no such thing).

    Chip away, chip away at the stone…

    Don’t let them to that to you.

    Now, first of all, when asked don’t tell. But who is to prevent any data or any information from twitter, blogs, facebook, wherever and whenever.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Individual states have different laws about how their public voting records can be used. Many states mandate that public voter rolls can only be used for “political purposes,” and some states explicitly ban using voting records for “commercial purposes.” The co-op and its clients must abide by these rules.
    But state political data laws do not apply to the information about voters that the party itself has gathered.
    “Generally, information freely provided to the party by the voter, or data about who participated in a primary [that the party collects] is not subject to any prohibition on it being sold,” said Karl Sandstrom, a former vice-chairman of the Federal Elections Commission and an attorney for the co-op.
    This means Democrats are free to sell the opinions voters give to campaign canvassers to credit card companies or marketing firms. . Many states mandate that public voter rolls can only be used for “political purposes,” and some states explicitly ban using voting records for “commercial purposes.” The co-op and its clients must abide by these rules.
    Our information is everywhere in some of the places we may not even think of. Every time you post anything, tweet or use facebook, there are those who are gathering various information.
    Each state has different laws to protect its citizens from their information being used.
    But those who do gather it are to abide by the rules. When pigs fly.
    DON’T ASK ME BRO, AND I WANT TELL.
    You obvioulsy don’t even know what communism is.
    And at least half?
    Umm. Obama 51% Romney 47%. Or even better yet Obama 332 Romney 206.
    More than half of America does favor Obama.
    Doesn’t matter if you don’t tell.
    What will matter is if the Bank decides on you telling!
    If you haven’t coughed up the info – any info – then you’re hiding something and the Banks won’t do business with you, won’t give you a credit card and you won’t be able to start a business with a line of credit unless you check off DEMOCRAT as a preference.
    See???????
  • JimR
    Well that should be amusing. Who do you think will get the better interest rate based on the risk of default, Liberals or Conservatives?
  • FMB42
    It’s probably not just about “making a buck”.
    Credit card companies might increase, or decrease, your interest rates and/or credit limits according to such in-depth political party affiliation info.
    Retail companies might also resort to selective direct advertising and/or pricing according to such in-depth political party affiliation of the consumer.
    Since the red states are heavily subsidized by the blue states it’s rather obvious who is more credit worthy.
    Democrats are not the only ones who distribute your information.
    During the last election season, I signed up for messages from the Michele Bachmann campaign. Now I get emails from Rand Paul, Bob Livingston and the Tea Party. And prior to November, Todd Akin, as well. They all have/had one thing in common. No, not a call for smaller government. MONEY! They all desparately need money, all the time. Just one more donation an all will be right with the world.
    Errr …. make that desperately need money for the spelling nazis out there.
    This is what you expect from totalitarians. People with traditional values that clash with progressive depravity will be cataloged, demonized and then made into sub-citizens. This has happened many times before – Stalin’s kulaks, Marx’s bourgeoisie, Mao’s running-dog lackeys, Hitler’s Jews, Pol Pot’s intellectuals. This is the coming America that our Commie trolls here celebrate. They crave two things above all – death and destruction.
    So visa companies won’t allow you to have a visa card because of your political views. Don’t say this won’t happen when visa companies were refusing to allow the purchase of guns. It is time to shut down America – stop going to work in protest, even though Obama won’t care, because that is his goal anyhow, but it will affect everyone. Time to suck it up and shut ‘er down.
    Judging by the lines at Chick-Fil-A last year, this could backfire on them a bit.
    Side note: Credit card advertising has gotten increasingly vile and damn near predatory. It is never a good idea to rack up credit card debt, your goal should be to pay cash for everything. These credit card ads are not funny, it is serious business when the economy is in this state and so many people were left with nothing after the housing collapse. Shame on the banks for enticing the gullible into getting into CC debt with the lure of false “rewards”, “miles”, or “cash back”. It is all a scam and an entire generation seems to believe that they “need” to have credit card debt to prove they pay their bills on time.
    America needs more Dave Ramsey and less Alec Baldwin, Blue Guitar Guy, Barbarians, or whatever else the banks throw at us during every commercial break.
    For years i saw results of surveys and wondered how come nobody asked me my opinion, then i started getting surveys in the mail with fund pleas. I filled out a few because finally some asked me my opinion, then i realized that they did not want my opinion, they just wanted my money. i studied what the questions were about and what subjects were omitted and realized that they were trying to get confirmation data about the obvious and did not want to talk about many hot button controversial subjects. It was a case of, they did not want to be told the truth.
