It’s an Obama world.
Now the progressive loons want “policy intervention” to protect mice from cats.
A recent study found that cats are killing mice at an astonishing rate.
Anthropogenic threats, such as collisions with man-made structures, vehicles, poisoning and predation by domestic pets, combine to kill billions of wildlife annually. Free-ranging domestic cats have been introduced globally and have contributed to multiple wildlife extinctions on islands. The magnitude of mortality they cause in mainland areas remains speculative, with large-scale estimates based on non-systematic analyses and little consideration of scientific data. Here we conduct a systematic review and quantitatively estimate mortality caused by cats in the United States. We estimate that free-ranging domestic cats kill 1.4–3.7 billion birds and 6.9–20.7 billion mammals annually. Un-owned cats, as opposed to owned pets, cause the majority of this mortality. Our findings suggest that free-ranging cats cause substantially greater wildlife mortality than previously thought and are likely the single greatest source of anthropogenic mortality for US birds and mammals. Scientifically sound conservation and policy intervention is needed to reduce this impact.
And, to think, “mousers” were once valued for their hunting skills.

I wonder why the assault against cats now? They can be a nuisance but I would rather have them around than a ga-zillion mice and rats.
Maggiej commented:
Cats are too cute to make fun of and beside epa just banned dcon so someone or something has to do something about the rats

No one has hacked my name nor info. I don’t see anyone accidentally using my screen name – but I have noticed a few changes in the overall format.
1. Script in the user name and email box.
2. Vanishing posts. I know this has been a concern for others, yet it has not happened to me until this week.
3. Time delay in the Post Comment / Submit and the actual post appearing.
4. An alternative email address works just as well with no scrutiny from the same IP address.

Where does it mention mice? Feral and free ranging cats are a menace to bird and other populations. This is not new, or “looney”, information.
In many areas, feral cats are trapped due to the damage they do to local animal populations, particularly rare birds.

The cats are taking the place for d con ban.

did go through, took long enough

Maybe the leftist goons can draw up a contract with ALF to thin out herds of cats, just as long as he can get away from Melnak.

A “policy intervention” would be something like this:
“Keep your cat on your own damned property, or it’s going to be captured and
taken to the Humane Society. You have three days to pay a fine and pick it up”
This is a scientific paper pointing out the problem, and recommending that localities need to do something about it. It has nothing to do with Federal law.
Seriously….this blog has gone down the rabbit hole.

I believe that the studies that are the basis for the claims were studies upon islands. Then the data is extrapolated to apply to continents. Those computer model are devilishly clever and totally misleading.

All of the ‘extra’ cats should be immediatly shipped to Chicago as they have major rat infestations at all levels of government!

I wonder what Mickey Mouse would say about this. . .
Yup, Not another government program!!!!
Probably another Hoax like man-made global warming. . .
Sasja commented:
The feral cats in our neighborhood must be lazy because our bird population has exploded. Birds make more of a mess with their poop than do cats. Their singing in the early morning hours in the Spring is nice to hear, but I wish they would fly off somewhere else the rest of the day. Funny thing this winter, I have noticed a couple of hawks loitering about which I have never seen before.

Yeah I guess it’s true- These people actually BELIEVE JERRY was a REAL mouse!
Jim commented:
The black plague was promulgated by the good citizens way back then who killed cats thus allowing rats to thrive that carried the disease. Those who ignore history are destined to repeat it.

First it was D-Con, now cats are coming under scrutiny. What’s next, the Woodstream Company?

I am guilty! I have owned many cats and all were outside often. Wouldn’t trade my cats for any birds or rodents.

The anti-cat thing was probably instigated by Cass Sunstein before he abandoned the title of “regulations czar” and scurried further int the shadows to do his dirty work. It’s probably somewhere in the enormous pile of O-Tax regulatory garbage. Sunstein is an advocate of pets having rights to sue their owners, or some such meshugas (Yiddish for craziness). The regime will come after your pets and farm animals, too. Just watch. Like all oppressive, totalitarian, utopian regimes, they want – no, crave – to leave the people defenseless, sick, starving and in rags. They are all sociopaths. They are overjoyed at bringing n the plague and then denying even basic health care.
