Journal News Reporters’ Families Targeted After Posting Gun Permit Maps

This map posted online claims to show the addresses of Journal News employees. The map is in response to the paper’s controversial decision to publish a map showing the addresses of gun owners.

After posting maps with names and addresses of legal gun permit holders in their area, Journal News reporters says family members are being targeted. And, white powder was sent to the newsroom.
Pix11 reported:

When the Journal News published a map that details the names and addresses of pistol permit holders in Westchester and Rockland counties, the paper’s editors say, they expected some criticism — but not death threats.

According to the New York Times, “Information [has been posted online] about where their children attended school; some reporters have received notes saying they would be shot on the way to their cars; bloggers have encouraged people to steal credit card information of Journal News employees; and two packages containing white powder have been sent to the newsroom and a third to a reporter’s home.”

The powder proved to be harmless, and, so far, much of the blow-back has been happening online. In New Rochelle, the Talk of the Sound blogger Bob Cox attempted to turn the tables by creating his own map that pinpoints the homes of Journal News employees.

“I don’t think my map is particularly fair to the Journal News employees, many of them have nothing to do with the story, but that’s in the same spirit of the Journal News map which is equally unfair,” Cox told PIX 11 News over the phone from Florida.

Still, Cox said, he did not think the story would take a threatening turn.

“I certainly don’t endorse the types of things I’m reading in the New York Times, about the threats, anthrax scares, getting people’s children involved, I just wanted to address the appropriate response and I thought my map was that response,” said Cox, who insists he will not take the interactive map down from his site.

The Journal News told reporters armed guards would continue to protect their headquarters in White Plains.

These morons should have thought about the ramifications of their idiocy before posting the names of legal gun permit holders.

And no sympathy for you, idiots. You got what you deserve.

  • Joe Blow

They tried to intimidate and shame gun owners. Just exactly what did they think gun owners would do when their privacy was breached? Nothing? Give them some of their own medicine by making them fearful so they think twice about putting another person’s private (It should be) information for all to see. Maybe someone should shame the welfare recipients, disability payment recipients and abortion recipients by putting their names, addresses and phone numbers out there for the public to see. They will continue to tromp us if we don’t start fighting them so they back off. I don’t mean hurt them but scare them like they have done to us.

I’m 100% sure that the sleazy ” journalists” of that rag are doing it all themselves. They want publicity for themselves while they facilitate and instigate the killings of innocent citizens .

  • Patty

First of all, all is far as I see it, once you ask for trouble you are certainly going to get it back in spades. POKING THE BEAR

I personally love it, not hurting kids or threatening lives but placing addresses of the newspaper employees is what they deserve.

And sorry but someone either on one side or the other could get hurt. Both sides playing with fire and it was started by the newspaper. They really weren’t thinking now were they, in the first place.

  • Trevor (@tjexcite)

The old saying don’t pick a fight with people who buy ink by the barrel. Well don’t pick a fight about guns against legal law bidden gun owners. But just because they are legal gun owners still does not mean they are stable even if they pass the background checks.

  • Highlander

What goes around comes around ….

  • Patty

It is all so stupid that this all started from a Mother, who had guns around a mentally and emotionally disturbed child. Who went out and ended the lives of 20 children and 6 adults.

Now, the anger and extremely radical of ideas, “gee, let’s print the names of gun owners in the area” without a thought of the personal lives of these individuals and the fear they have placed on them and their families.

  • Sasja

MrGoodWench is probably right. Look no further than those connected to that rag to find those responsible for the threats.

smug leftists think because obama won the election that they are going to have a field day. a line has been crossed that transcends gender, race and religion. they are attempting to subvert a constitutional right and when citizens have been taking it on the chin for so long, there is going to be a tipping point. that time has arrived…it’s time to beat them back and force them back into their place.

“Armed Guards will continue to protect their headquarters.” So it’s ok for them to be armed, but not anyone else.

  • Kate

The paper has reaped what it has sown. They didn’t care about the danger they put people in. Their behavior was appalling. No sympathy for them from me.

I don’t want people to meet hate with hate…to be throwing death threats around.

Typical bullies can dish it but can’t take it. Guns aren’t all that bad I guess when you use them for PROTECTION!!

i still want to know when they’re
going map out the following info:

The Terrorist Camps Around The U.S.

They may be living right next door…

Scattered across the United States, unknown to all but a handful of citizens, are 35 Islamic terrorist training compounds known as “Muslims of America.” Under the leadership of a radical Pakistani cleric, Sheikh Mubarak Gilani, Muslims of America has thousands of devoted followers who are being groomed for HOMEGROWN JIHAD.

In never-before-seen video footage, the Christian Action Network exposes these dangerous terrorist compounds and reveals for the first time a secret training tape in which American Muslims are recruited to “join one of the most advanced training courses in Islamic military warfare”… right here in America! They are called “Soldiers of Allah” and they are trained in explosives, kidnapping, murder, firing weapons, and guerilla warfare. They are told, “Act like you are a friend, then kill him just like from the book.”

    A gun owner: Hobby

And it is our right under the Constitution of the United States. And if it bothers others they need to leave the U.S. It seems some people who live here have never read our Constitution. Shameful. It is a document for the people and by the people. And if owning firearms is so awful, again, PLEASE LEAVE AMERICA.

Well, Obama is president. If others know of this then it would be a good idea for them to start spitting it out to the dumb Americans who just don’t get what is going on. Seriously, if members of this government are aware of these dangers then why aren’t they doing something about it and now.

  • jony101

as usual for the leftist they dont blame the criminal. They should have printed the address to the killers mansion, and maybe the killers father mansion but instead they print innocent peoples addresses who had nothing to do with this mass killing (that they call a tragedy). It was no tragedy.
My daddy use to tell me, never mess with another mans woman, never mess with crazy people and his final advice never mess with people who have guns. This was back in the seventy’s but it applies today also.
    The journal news want sympathy?
I smell something fishy, like maybe the leftists are doing all the threatening letters and blaming the right. It just too convenient. Eventually they will catch someone and we will know the truth.

AUSONIUS states the case extremely well:

The pure argument (which few have the guts to say and defend
these days) for private weapon ownership was, and still is, so
that a population can remain citizens and not subjects to tyrants.

Run from it if you must, but this was, and still is, the truth. It is not
about hunting, “sporting use”, or the like. Once you buy into these
notions, you get boxed into a corner from which there is no escape.

The argument for possessing modern weapons is simply that those
are what you will face should tyrants wish to “compel” your compliance.

We have an open marxist party which holds the Senate, the White
House, and much of the courts. They are making their plans very clear.
It will not stop with compelling you to purchase health insurance, eat
“right”, drive eco-cars, practice their “approved” religions, and the like.

Marxists in the 20th century murdered tens of millions of their own
citizens who disagreed with them. Why would anyone believe the
21st century marxist will operate any differently?

I wake to a country that I do not recognize.

I think you’re right. It might be the reason Gawker did the same thing with a very provocative title. They’re fishing for retaliation.

  • Highlander

Patty, all this nonsense didn’t “start” with an irresponsible mother and a mentally ill child … this gun control battle has been alternating between a slow simmer and a raging boil ever since I can remember. Things just happen to be at a full boil right now …

The dream of a gun-free society NEVER changes for these people, and they spend every waking minute looking for opportunities to advance that agenda. They are shamelessly exploiting the Sandy Hook tragedy for all it’s worth, because between this tragedy, and Obama’s new-found “flexibility”, they see this as the perfect gun control storm … a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to ram a HUGE chunk of their anti-gun agenda down our throats.

Disarming America has always been the holy grail of the progressive Socialist movement, and make no mistake … that’s NOT because they seek to put an end to the senseless gun violence in our schools or anywhere else. It’s because they know that an armed citizenry is a free citizenry …

  • Highlander

Of course, with this perfect storm brewing, it’s no wonder there are so many conspiracy theories about the Sandy Hook shooting circulating. The chances of a tragedy like this coming immediately after a devastating and demoralizing election, an election that just happened to give one of the most anti-gun Presidents in history four more years of uninhibited flexibility, is really hard to fathom … especially since everyone KNEW that gun control was Obama’s biggest second-term agenda items.

It’s going to be difficult to stand our ground through this storm, but stand our ground we must. We have to resist the temptation to cede ground in an attempt to minimize the damage. They will come at us with a myriad of new “common sense” legislation, but the common thread in all of it will be lists and registrations of weapons and ammunition. Lists of weapons and ammunition calibers are the keys to confiscation, and we MUST defeat ANY legislation that includes them.

  • Lim Lynn
As I said they weren’t publishing 25% addresses accurately. Serve them right for not really paying attention after they invaded Gun Owners privacy.

  • Lim Lynn

Actually, you know that Al Qaeda had marched into the street in New York. Thus, I can’t trust Barack Hussein Obama. Whether Patriots will protect The People American citizens that will change the outcome in the future since we can accurately predict how they would act and react.

  • lizzy84

Bet you didn’t know what’s hidden in The Gun Control Act of 1968.

Denninger: The Treasury Secretary is vested with the right to ban importation of any firearm he finds “does not have a sporting purpose.” ~

While this authority is “currently” delegated to the BATFE, it doesn’t have to remain delegated. In fact, there is nothing legislative about that delegation to the best of my knowledge, which means it can be revoked by pure fiat.

Jack Lew, the person most-likely to be nominated to replace Geithner, is Obama’s current Chief of Staff. As such it must be presumed that he will do whatever Obama wants, within the limit of his statutory authority.

And that authority includes the ability to ban the import of any gun.

[“Citigroup Replaces JPMorgan as White House Chief of Staff.” (#68)

Behind that headline is a tangled web.

The new chief of staff is Jack Lew. He used to work for the giant
banking conglomerate Citigroup. His predecessor as chief of staff
is Bill Daley, who used to work at the giant banking conglomerate
JPMorgan Chase. Daley was maestro of the bank’s global lobbying
and the chief liaison to the White House.

Bill Daley replaced Obama’s first chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel,
who onceworked for a Wall Street firm where he was paid a
reported $18.5 million in less than three years.

The new chief of staff, Jack Lew, comes from Obama’s Office of
Management and Budget, where he replaced Peter Orszag, who
now works as vice chairman for global banking at the giant
    conglomerate Citigroup. Still following me?

    Yeah, what MrGoodWench said.
I’ve seen this ploy done before a lot in Sweden, it’s almost Damage Control 101 for leftists now.

You get a leftist that’s done something really sleazy and are getting in trouble because of it, and they will *always* claim that they get deaththreats and that their families are threatened. This has the dual benefit for them of letting them play the victim, as well as painting their targets as the villains. And there’s usually no shortage of lefist media that will print those stories without bothering to check it for actual evidence.

I’ve even seen them get pats on the back and even receive actual rewards for “showing courage”, when they’ve done this ploy.

  • Cynicman

You ain’t seen nothin yet. Obama by way of his lickspittles and the press are going to turn the heat up to high on gun owners. They are already being demonized but this is going to get worse and help deepen the divide. So who from the stuck-on-stupid party is going to cave? They’ll be putting their fingers to the wind so take note and remember.

  • Faye

    #36 Cynicman,
Agree like that Mr. Green on msnbc saying that legal gun owners are worse than child rapists. The socialists are always throwing out outlandish statements to see what reaction they get. Well that was the first verbal volley of that kind and it will get much worse.
Time for serious consideration of splitting this nation with the socialists getting the coasts and the conservatives getting most of the middle. There is simply too much differences between the two camps to come together again on anything.

  • J

I found it interesting that when o’reilly covered this story, he referred to the people at the newspaper as reporters and editors. He referred to the pushback authors, as idiots and other derogatory names. I guess liberals who want to take our guns are given high respect by that blowhard.

  • Granny

I have to agree with others that it is most likely Journal employees who are doing this themselves. Sort of like those “racist threat” hangman’s nooses . . . .

  • Warren Bonesteel

The lists are posted so that the left wingers know where you live when the government gives the order for you to give up your guns.

Mobs of liberals will show up on your property, bringing death and destruction. If and when you defend yourself, the goverment will demonize you for not giving up your weapons quietly and peacefully.

  • Elizabeth

    Pay back is hell.

  • valerie

Ya know, the lefties NEED those threats against the newspaper employees to prove what horrible people the right-wing nutbars are.

Remember all those accusations of racism against the TEA Partiers? And how the only people at those TEA Party events that held up racist signs were plants?

    Just sayin’

  • oldguy

I bet the newspaper people still have the delusion that their world is exclusive. This is what happens to people who are clueless as to what times they live in and the technology of these times.

  • Jess1

“I’m 100% sure that the sleazy ” journalists” of that rag are doing it all themselves”

This, X 10,000. Just like the Gawker idiots, the play’s the same: print “daring” story, call cops that they’re “threatened”, then report that “cops were called” which the cops verify (that they were called)…
Note that the “threats” never actually become a police matter, but just disappear into the ether…

  • Highlander

It’s all about isolating and vilifying your target, and because these gun-grabbers hold the strings of their puppets in the MSM, they have quite an advantage over us when it comes to achieving that goal. Gun owners and second amendment advocates are now completely surrounded by hostile, anti-second amendment forces in the print media, television, Hollywood, Washington, and numerous other arms of the progressive Socialist movement. They’ve been poking and prodding at us for years now, and they’ve gradually herded us into what they think is a tight little group. Now, they’re poised to move in for the kill. The only problem is, they’ve brought nothing but a pack of dogs to a gun fight …

They’ve begun nipping and biting at us now, trying to break us down into smaller groups and destroy us, but they’re in for a big surprise when they finally draw first blood. Yes, they certainly have us well-defined now … everyone knows exactly who we are, and we’re easily vilified on a daily basis, but what they don’t understand is that they’ve seriously miscalculated the size and strength of their adversary. In typical liberal fashion, they’ve convinced themselves that we’re a minority, when in fact, we outnumber them ten to one, and we haven’t even fired the first shot back at them yet.

We’ve resisted their attempts to strip us of our rights using every passive technique at our disposal, but now that we’ve been backed in to a corner, we’re left with very few options. One of these days, they’re going to nip at us a little too aggressively, and when that day comes, it isn’t going to be a good day for the attack dogs of the progressive anti-gun movement.

  • Where’s the MF money Jon?

Lefties love being martyrs. To these “reporters” this is the greatest event in their lives.

  • bob bondi

They thought it was funny when they thought gun owners would be harassed.

#40, I don’t see the left attacking Households that are still Armed. That’s the Whole point of this entire thing and why they would like to take away our God Given Second Ammendment Rights away and at the same time why we will not ever give them up! The left is just dying to attack us but are scared to Death of doing it while we are Armed.

  • FMB42

It’s about time the likes of the JN, and their employees, realize that the “mighty pen” can cut those that wield it irresponsibly just as deeply as it can their intended victims.

With the exception of the “white powder mailings,” it’s good that a media outlet such as this is finally paying a price for their intentional and premeditated act to cause harm to innocent people.

And I’ll also say this; any government entity that can limit or ban private gun ownership can also limit or ban freedom of the press.

But then again, many people are convinced that the majority of the MSM long ago sold themselves, and their integrity, out to an insidious government.

    #38 January J,

Bill is, in reality, nothing but a pro-government liberal in conservative clothing.

  • Chris W.

I’d be willing to bet at least one of the threats against the newspaper will be proven false and was sent by someone connected to the newspaper. I’ll bet we find out within a week, too.

  • While I absolutely do not condone threats of violence (if true) in retaliation for putting gun owners and non-gun owners in danger, I have to say these selfish, thoughtless morons are responsible for putting themselves, fellow staff, and family in this situation. Now they have armed protection just like the people they are trying to publicly shame. Ahh…there’s nothing like pouring gasoline on yourself and then lighting the match. Stupid hypocrites!
