Chicago Police Chief: We’ll Shoot Licensed Civilians With Guns

During an interview on radio station WVON 1690 am this week Chicago’s Police Chief Gary McCarthy surprised listeners when he commented on the upcoming concealed carry law that must be passed in Illinois within the next six months. McCarthy made a scary prediction that citizens carrying legally could be shot by Chicago police.
News in Black reported, via Guns Save Life:

“You put more guns on the street expect more shootings,” McCarthy said. “I don’t care if they’re licensed legal firearms, people who are not highly trained… putting guns in their hands is a recipe for disaster. So I’ll train our officers that there is a concealed carry law, but when somebody turns with a firearm in their hand the officer does not have an obligation to wait to get shot to return fire and we’re going to have tragedies as a result of that. I’m telling you right up front.”

McCarthy would not say what specific training officers will undertake if any. However, he did admit that in the past his department has made mistakes in shooting unarmed civilians. He believes the concealed carry law will increase those types of unfortunate incidents.

As if City/Chicago would hire anyone for his job that was not corrupt and upheld the Constitution…it’s part of the Chicago-way job description…..Sheriff Arpaio need not apply….what creeps they are…but look at what crawled out of the Chicago ooze….Obama, M. Obama, Emmanuel, Holder…ad infinitude, ad nauseum.

That is a bunch of Bull C@%#!

Mayor Rahm Emanuel appointed Garry F. McCarthy, former director of the Newark, New Jersey, Police Department, as Superintendent; this was approved by the City Council on June 8, 2011. McCarthy is the highest paid city employee with an annual salary of $260,004.

So the good police chief is attributing his officers’ shooting people on gun laws? This man has no business being in law enforcement, much less titling himself “Chief”.

Real leaders don’t lay blame, they take responsibility for their actions and the actions of those under them.

He has absolutely zero concept of what effective leadership is.

Police are public officials and thus not part of the militia envisioned by the Founders, but armed citizens are.

‘ “I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people, except for a few public officials.”

    — George Mason, in Debates in Virginia Convention on Ratification of the Constitution, Elliot, Vol. 3, June 16, 1788’

‘ “Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man against his own bosom. Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American…[T]he unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people.”

–Tenche Coxe, The Pennsylvania Gazette, Feb. 20, 1788.’

Right to Keep and Bear Arms

If police were to shoot licensed law obeying citizens they would be acting as tyrants.

Sounds to me he just threaten legal citizens, and gave his officer carte blanche to commit murder. An officer of the law, what a fragging joke.

  • Rachelle

Of course they will shoot law abiding citizens. They are afraid to shoot at the gang members.

  • Smarty

I guess Chicago cops are stupid, corrupt and cowardly. Another reason why sane white people don’t live there.

If the Chicago police are as “highly trained” as the New York cops that shot 9 innocent bystanders last year (while the shooter only shot his intended victim) then please leave me at the mercy of the Untrained. Why do the anti- gun folks think being a policeman makes you a superhero. High incident of alcohol abuse, spousal abuse, stress related mental disorders, etc. Low pay so they are not exactly attracting the best and the brightest in the inner cities because those who are the best move to higher paying and safer suburb jobs. These are the people you want to give over complete control to? Every time i see someone in law enforcement come out against gun rights I want to ask them if when they got at the end of their shift they had to go home without their gun would they still feel the same? Its easy to ask others to give up their protection when you know you and your family will still have theirs . When seconds count, the police are only Minutes away (if you are lucky) The police do not stop crime, they apprehend criminals after crimes are committed (and they dont even do that all that well)

  • Look-Out

Why does ANYONE live in Chicago?

    Sounds like an absolute s*)thole.

His nervous. He knows CCW will lower the crime rate, and that ain’t good for his Master’s Agenda.

When seconds matter the police are only minutes away. I carry everyday. No policeman knows. If I were in a position where I needed to shoot then more than likely there’s no policeman there. So, his little diatribe is moot.

when somebody turns with a firearm in their hand the officer does not have an obligation to wait to get shot to return fire

If you point a gun at a cop you deserve to get shot. If you have a person on the ground and are holding them for the cops to come when they pull up you re-holster your gun and get your CCP ready. This is nothing new and if you point anything at a cop even a cell phone will get you shot anywhere.

  • lincoln’s widow

So what? Let them all shoot each other up. Who the eff cares?

  • Big Al

This clown is exactly what the problem is in Chicago. Instead of taking care of business he is acting as a leftist political hack. The answer to chicago’s problem has always been tough strong policing ala NYPD under Giuliani, but they won’t do it….so they have their chief f**king around with political sh*t like this. C’mon a**hole, start sweeping the south side in force and stop and frisk aggressively. Get the job done and shut the f**k up.

  • Tricky Dick

This man is a moron and unfit for the office he holds. We have concealed carry in my state and you never hear of a situation where a police office is confronted by, been shot by or had to shoot someone who has a license to carry.

  • Rock

I suppose Holder staying at Justice may be the best of two evils, this man sounds like someone DingleBerry Soetoro would have put at Justice, or worse head of the FBI (Fragging Barry’s Informant).

  • jtb012u340

These people running this country are nothing but paranoid pyschos and emotional unstable. They are power mad. Then again, that’s what sin is, it is MADNESS.

  • Rock

In many states if pulled over by Law Enforcement you are required to announce you have a weapon in the car, sounds like in Chicago that might end tragically. While slightly OT I have of late noticed that some officer upon approaching the car will not let the driver or anyone else get a word in, then once you do inform him you end up being harassed or even arrested for not declaring the gun immediately.

  • oldflyer

Sounds like it is past time to disarm the cops.

This is not the first indication that they are going out of control. There have been multiple shootings of unarmed civilians by cops in southern California recently.
