14 Year-Old Girl Shot at Atlanta Middle School By Fellow Student

At least one student was shot at Price Middle School in Atlanta this morning.
FOX News reported the shooter, a student at the school, was in police custody. A teacher was trampled by students trying to get out of the way.
Reuters reported:

At least one person as wounded on Thursday in a shooting at Price Middle School in southeast Atlanta, local media reports said.

MyFoxAtlanta.com said three suspects were in custody and the school was on lockdown after the shooting, which left two wounded including a 14-year-old.

Police outside the school declined to confirm the shooting to Reuters or to anxious parents gathered behind crime scene tape, and further details were not immediately available.

The 14 year-old victim is alert and speaking to officials at the hospital.

Is anyone willing to admit that the culture of violence we’re immersing our children in is responsible for these tragedies yet? Between what today’s children are exposed to on television, in video games, through pop music, and within their own family environments, they’ve completely lost touch with reality. They no longer place any value on human life (including their own) and they are incapable of solving even the simplest social problems without resorting to physical aggression. This is not a gun, or even a weapon issue, this is a societal issue, and until we have the guts to face that and deal with it, the violence is going to continue unabated.

I’m not sure exactly what the solution is, but I know one thing … the fruit never falls far from the tree, and if THESE are the fruits of today’s parents, just imagine what THEIR kids are going to be like, assuming they live to be of childbearing age. You can take guns out of the picture, but these monsters will still be finding ways to kill each other, so it’s time to quit screwing around and do something to break this cycle of violence and restore people’s respect for human life.

The whole thing sickens me, and watching people use these tragedies to advance a partisan political agenda rather than dealing with the root of the problem INFURIATES me. Our politicians need to know that the blood of America’s children will be on their hands if they keep pushing band-aids like gun control and fail to address the root causes of this violence in a rational, effective way.

You can bet that the Liberals will use this news story coverage as a means of boosting support for their gun control efforts.

  • Highlander

And for all you gun grabbers out there who think that taking guns out of the picture will solve this problem, why don’t you take a gander at the murder rates in our prisons, where there are NO firearms present WHATSOEVER. There, you can be killed in seconds with dental floss. Trying to convince us that disarming America would somehow eliminate all this senseless violence is laughable…

Every one of these likely manufactured shootings should result in more stocking up of ammo, guns, and supplies. I see exactly where this is going. Any day now will be the shooting that is the straw that broke the camel’s back and BAM the hammer comes down by the communist.

  • Jad

This shooting isn’t going to be hyped up if it’s (as I suspect) black-on-black violence, just like the shooting at the Houstion Community College a week back that we heard nothing about after a few hours. The Liberals need white shooters in order to get their desired guns–those owned by rural/suburban whites, not those possessed by inner city blacks/hispanics. In order to push their agenda, they’ve even invented white shooters like Zimmerman who would have been universally characterized as hispanic in any other situation.

  • jharp

    More guns, right?

If the teacher had only had a Bushmaster 223 with a 30 round magazine she could have taken out all three 14 year olds. Problem solved. Right?

  • Mad Hatter

If Dianne Feinstein’s “Assault Weapons” bill would have passed a year ago, this shooting never would have happened. Oh wait…

  • jad

As expected, since the shooter is black, the story is buried on CNN.com main page instead of being the lead story as BREAKING NEWS! on every single MSM website. Guns are only bad in the hands of conservative whites.

It IS governments role to protect it’s citizens. It is CONSTITUTIONAL to put a ban on certain weapons. I don’t see why a citizen should be allowed to own a Tec-9, Mac-10, Mac-11, SKS, AK-47, AR-15, MP-4, MP-5, Calico, etc. All you gun nuts think it’s a big game until it’s your child that gets gunned down.

Since people get killed in prison you should have the right to own an Abrams tank that can effectively fire a round over 4 miles, right? And a very large round I might add. And lots of them.

Nelle, how much more “restricted” can prisoners be? And they STILL manage to kill each other. Short of putting everyone in individual cells, there is no way to stop one human being from killing another, except to get to the bottom of WHY they want to do it in the first place.

Of course, we will never completely eliminate violence. It’s part of the human condition. Some people are just sick … but we CAN do something about the culture of glorified violence we’re exposing our kids to every day. If people would just be willing to abandon a few almighty dollars and start producing a more socially responsible environment for our youth instead of feeding their blood lust with a steady stream of violence, we might be able to prevent some of this nonsense …

Personally, I find it ironic that liberals are the worst offenders when it comes to producing this violent content, yet they seem to be the ones who are the most outraged by these tragedies, and least willing to take any responsibility for them. God forbid anyone dares to limit their “free speech” by asking them to tone it down a bit for the sake of our children, right? Quentin Tarantino was very quick to deny that HIS movies had ANYTHING to do with the senseless violence we’re seeing in America today. As long as that attitude persists, so will the violence.

    THE GUN RUSE

    re: Dianne Feinstein

    ht Redwine

“I know the urge to arm yourself because that’s what I did”

[Senator Dianne Feinstein (D – CA), author of the 1994 Assault
Weapons Ban, is leading the charge on Capitol Hill to bring back
the legislation since it expired in 2004.]

a False Assault on Assault Weapons :aka: Machine Guns Still Illegal

[In fact, machine guns have been tightly regulated since the passage of the National Firearms Act in 1934, in the wake of the gangster era. Legal ownership of a machine gun requires an extensive federal background check, fingerprinting, signed clearance from the chief of local law enforcement (such as a county sheriff), a $200 excise tax, and weeks of paperwork. That was true before the assault-weapon ban was enacted in 1994, and it remains true with the expiration of the ban at midnight Sept. 13, 2004.

That’s made clear in a question-and-answer document posted Sept.
13 on the Web site of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and
Explosives (ATF), explaining the effect of the expiration of the assault
    -weapon ban:

ATF: All provisions of the National Firearms Act (NFA) relating
to registration and transfer of machine guns . . . still apply.

The fully automatic version of the AK47 — pictured and described
in the ad — remains just as illegal as it was before the ban expired.

    [..]

But it is also a fact that Bush was publicly committed to sign
an extension if Congress passed it, and it was Congress that
    failed to do so

    Quote:
“It is governments role to protect it’s citizens”

Our government either can’t, or won’t, protect its own employees, let alone its citizenry.

Let’s see, numerous very deadly and/or extremely destructive drugs have been outlawed in this country for many decades, and yet the US is awash with these same drugs to this day. Meth, heroin, cocaine, PEDs, and GHB (the date rape drug), etc, etc, etc can be bought on far too many street corners across the country (this is particularly true in the inner cities).

This is not to mention that it’s now claimed that illegal obtained prescription drugs are beginning to cause more deaths than the above drugs. Just ask your doctor…

Then there is the explosion of the “bath salt” class of drugs (that aren’t always illegal). These drugs have just started to take their deadly toll. Yep, mix a little of this (easily obtained chemical) with a little of that (common chemical or compound), and bang… you’ve got the latest bath salt drug.

Also keep in mind that swimming pools and hot tubs, according to some sources, cause the deaths of nearly as many young children as do guns.

Meanwhile, we are now finding out that the actions of our government has placed huge numbers of assault rifles into the hands of certain citizens of Libya and other foreign countries. That’s right, the very guns that our government seeks to ban from US public ownership are perfectly acceptable, that is as long as they’re in the hands of non-US citizens in other countries. No back-ground check, no age restrictions, no mandated training/safety classes, no nothing. Just load’em up and get to shooting.

Then there’s the fact that our government actively and illegally transfered hundreds, if not thousands, of assault rifles and other illegal weapons into the hands of…now get this…the Mexican drug cartels. Hundreds and hundreds of innocent Mexican citizens, and more than one US employee, have been tragically killed with these weapons (many of which are mentioned in your list of guns).

These facts place your faith in our government and its ability and/or desire to “to protect its citizens” in the land of fairy tales and unicorns.

Police say another student shot 14-

[A 14-year-old student was shot outside an Atlanta middle school

Atlanta police responded to a report of a shooting at 1:50 p.m. at Price

    police said in a statement.

Atlanta Public Schools public information officer Steve Alford said the
teen’s wound was more toward the back of the neck, WXIA-TV reports.

“The student was alert, conscious and breathing,” the police statement
said. The student was in unknown condition at Grady Memorial Hospital.

No details so far about the shooter or the weapon used.

The science on this violence problem is settled … everyone knows that guns alone kill people, so we are going to just take them all away before one more innocent child dies.

The Constitution is obviously a dead, outdated document written by old white people, and as progressives, we have absolutely no interest in adhering to it anymore. We have a whole bunch of “fundamental changes” in mind for this country, and we have no intention of allowing a bunch of Constitution-loving, knuckle-dragging Teabaggers to interfere with our plans to implement them. If that means rounding you all up and imprisoning you to get you out of the way, then so be it. We will have absolutely no problem with making criminals out of decent Americans if it will facilitate a progressive takeover of this country. Plus, how could we ever successfully seize your assets and property if you’re running around loose with “assault weapons”, and “high capacity” cop killer ammunition? When it comes to destroying freedom, democracy, and the American way of life and replacing it with progressive Socialism, the end has always justified the means and we’re very good at what we do….

We’ve been planning this for a long time, and now that we have control of the White House, the Senate, the media, the schools, and half of the Republican party, it’s time for you Teabaggers to just give up your weapons and go along quietly. If you’re lucky, and you’re willing to do as you’re told, we may let you live out your life without too much discomfort…

[But communists could not be wrong. After all, their knowledge was scientific, based on historical materialism, an understanding of the dialectical process in nature and human society, and a materialist (and thus realistic) view of nature. Marx has shown empirically where society has been and why, and he and his interpreters proved that it was destined for a communist end. No one could prevent this, but only stand in the way and delay it at the cost of more human misery. Those who disagreed with this world view and even with some of the proper interpretations of Marx and Lenin were, without a scintilla of doubt, wrong. After all, did not Marx or Lenin or Stalin or Mao say that. . . . In other words, communism was like a fanatical religion. It had its revealed text and chief interpreters. It had its priests and their ritualistic prose with all the answers. It had a heaven, and the proper behavior to reach it. It had its appeal to faith. And it had its crusade against nonbelievers.

What made this secular religion so utterly lethal was its seizure of all
the state’s instrument of force and coercion and their immediate use
to destroy or control all independent sources of power, such as the
church, the professions, private businesses, schools, and, of course,

    @bg #69:

I use a program called Jing to save screenshots. It’s free:
    http://www.techsmith.com/jing.html

It can take screenshots from anything, including videos, and it captures video as well. You can even upload the screenshots to a gallery online if you want to share them, or you can save them to your own computer.

True. Sadly there are many “single-oared” rowboats out there, paddling in tiny circles.

And that’s not demeaning and insulting?

    gun loving??

    rotf 😆 mbo!!

so, who’s the hypocrite, nah, we know who, who’s right??

and btw, i don’t know who that soldier thinks he is, but he does not
speak for anyone except for himself, that is what soldiers do, that is
what Boston did.. and also directed his letter to one specific person,
to whom was his letter (??) addressed??

and as far as i’m concerned, this man has the last word = simply
because he’s right, and anyone w/out a political bent, knows it..

ps: the trouble with the Newtown shooting has nothing to
do with guns, and everything to do with “Mental Illness”,
    not to mention “Psychotropic Drugs”..

1,100 Green Berets set record straight on guns

[“In contrast, in 2009 (5 years after the Federal Assault Weapons Ban
expired) total firearm related homicides in the U.S. declined by 9 percent
from the 2005 high,” the letter says, citing FBI statistics.

Since gun bans don’t really impact violence, what is the issue at hand?

“The purpose of the Second Amendment is to secure our ability to oppose
enemies foreign and domestic, a guarantee against disorder and tyranny,”
    the Green Berets say.

“Throughout history, disarming the populace has always preceded tyrants’
accession of power. Hitler, Stalin, and Mao all disarmed their citizens prior
to installing their murderous regimes. At the beginning of our own nation’s
revolution, one of the first moves made by the British government was an
attempt to disarm our citizens. When our Founding Fathers ensured that
the Second Amendment was made a part of our Constitution, they were
not just wasting ink. They were acting to ensure our present security was
never forcibly endangered by tyrants, foreign or domestic.”

But school shootings are horrible and need to be addressed, they write.

“First, it is important that we recognize that this is not a gun control
problem; it is a complex sociological problem. No single course of
    action will solve the problem.”

The military veterans say local schools
should make their own decisions and plans.

“Most recently the Cleburne Independent School District will become the
first district in North Texas to consider allowing some teachers to carry
concealed guns. We do not opine as to the appropriateness of this decision,
but we do support their right to make this decision for themselves.”

Further, those individuals with diagnosed conditions that impact their
ability to make decisions can be addressed with programs of treatment.

“In each of these mass shooting incidents the perpetrator
was mentally unstable,” the Green Berets says

Firearms safety programs in schools could help, and a repeal of laws
making them gun-free zones should be considered by local officials.

Also, the violence in video games needs to be addressed.

“”War and war-like behavior should not be glorified. Hollywood and video
game producers are exploiting something they know nothing about. General
Sherman famously said, ‘War is hell!’ Leave war to the professionals,’” the
    letter says

“This is our country, these are our rights. We believe that it is time that we
take personal responsibility for our choices and actions rather than abdicate
that responsibility to someone else under the illusion that we have done
something that will make us all safer.

We have a responsibility to stand by our principles and act in accordance
with them. Our children are watching and they will follow the example we
    set,” they write.

The one point it seems all agree on is the “Mental Illness” issue.

What either side has in mind to do about it I have no idea.

    Care to share your ideas?

i agree with the “common sense” NRA idea that
should have been established when i was two..

The NRA wants an ‘active’ mental illness database.

[In his Friday morning news conference, National Rifle Association chief
executive Wayne LaPierre floated the idea of a national registry of the
mentally ill as one way to stem gun violence.

“How can we possibly even guess how many, given our nation’s
refusal to create an active national database of the mentally ill?”

    he asked.]

also agree with certain background checks, but my main beef,
so to speak, is, how about everyone just telling us the truth..

There are two problems with the “mentally ill” database. One is that the Sandy Hook shooter wouldn’t have been on it yet, so it clearly wouldn’t be an end-all for this sort of gun violence … And secondly, EXACTLY WHO gets to decide what qualifies as mentally ill, and who fits the definition. I’m not trying to be a naysayer, but I know all sorts of people who have been treated for mental problems at one time or another in their life, but wouldn’t really deserve to be stripped of their second amendment rights, and of course there’s always the “doctor” who’s corrupt, or has an axe to grind. The potential for political or ideological persecution is great …

It’s encouraging to see someone on the left finally admit that mental health played a significant part in the Sandy Hook tragedy though, instead of blaming inanimate objects …

if the data had been compiled before he was born, how do you
know he wouldn’t have made the list, i mean, from what i have
learned, he has had problems since birth.. ultimately however,
the blame my very well lie with the State of Conn..

and please, lets just decide WHO SHOULD NOT GET A GUN before
jumping it, because so far, nearly all, if not all, have been verified
    mental cases..

    re: [who decides]

imho, someone with a proven tendency to act out violently, and/or,
known to be harmful to either others, and/or, themselves, is a good
    start, if not end goal..

btw, quite a few, if not all, of the shooters left clues, like someone
preparing for suicide.. but no one took them seriously, ergo, perhaps
a class clarifying the ‘red flags’ would be a more worthy endeavor than
learning how to condom a banana.. /s/
