Oh Brother… WaPo Associate Editor Compares Obama’s Newtown Speech to Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address

Four score and seven years ago…
Washington Post associate editor David Maraniss compared Barack Obama’s Sandy Hook memorial speech tonight to Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.
Lincoln wrote his speeches, was fighting a Civil War and actually matched his words with deeds. Obama has done nothing on the weapons front except run guns to Mexico.

Charles Krauthammer called the same speech highly political.

Give it a rest, Maraniss.

Obama didn’t speak about those 52 dead soldiers killed by a Muslim in the American Military. He didn’t hold his finger up to one eye to hold back a tear.

This horrendous crime fits in with Obama’s agenda — and he never misses an opportunity to promote his agenda.

I watched the speech. I know, I know, but up until that point it was uplifting with all the prayers. It started out ok by quoting some scripture, but he doesn’t know how to connect the words to the tragedy so it seemed disjointed. Then in the middle he jumped to you can’t raise your kids by yourself, you need help. It was the whole it takes a village meme. Then he jumped again to he will use whatever power in his office to do something to stop future shootings. He never did mention gun control but you knew that’s what he was talking about. Why did he have to have his seal of the president on the podium above the table with the candles? We know he’s the prezzy.

What we need to do is bring back decency to America. We need to stop the media from promoting violence — we need to believe again that marriage is between one man and one woman and that every life has meaning. God who has become an enemy of this administration and the youth culture — needs to make a comeback. Perhaps if we stop hating each other than guns will not even be the topic of conversation.

We have been told that The American Dream is out of most people’s reach. But if we don’t strive for something positive — then all we have left is the search for our 15 minutes of fame to prove we existed.

Big Government generates more paperwork for schools than their own students. Medical professionals fill out more forms to satisfy Big Government than they do on their patients. Maybe getting Government out of the way so the real professionals can do their jobs just might help prevent such needless tragedies in the future. But then commies need the cold embrace of an overlord to sleep at night, while the rest of us are quite comfortable with an alert dog, and our own skills, so who knows.

Dave, as Look Out commented above:

“Mass shootings are no more common than they have been in past decades, despite the impression given by the media.

In fact, the high point for mass killings in the U.S. was 1929, according to criminologist Grant Duwe of the Minnesota Department of Corrections.

Incidents of mass murder in the U.S. declined from 42 in the 1990s to 26 in the first decade of this century.

The chances of being killed in a mass shooting are about what they are for being struck by lightning.

Until the Newtown horror, the three worst K–12 school shootings ever had taken place in either Britain or Germany.

Almost all of the public-policy discussion about Newtown has focused on a debate over the need for more gun control. In reality, gun control in a country that already has 200 million privately owned firearms is likely to do little to keep weapons out of the hands of criminals. We would be better off debating two taboo subjects — the laws that make it difficult to control people with mental illness and the growing body of evidence that “gun-free” zones, which ban the carrying of firearms by law-abiding individuals, don’t work.”

Spare us the faux outrage and hysterical concern for “the children” … we know what your agenda is, and we aren’t buying it. If you were really concerned about the safety of our children, you’d face reality and quit creating gun-free victim zones for these nutcases to prey upon.

Unlike you, we are intelligent and rational enough to place the blame where it belongs, and we will fight your attempts to strip us of our Constitutional rights to our last dying breath …

Obama sent a whole boatload of guns to Mexico resulting in over 200 deaths. He is going to have to change. Sometimes impeachment is the beginning of that healing process for America.

  • lIZ

Gettysburg address? He’s come along ways from his Mussolini speech, the one with the Greek columns and fireworks.

  • Sandy

Something has changed since Obama took office. Just yesterday the place where my husband worked had a shooting. 4 blocks from where I lived as a child had a gang shooting, the hospital where I was born was shot up and even the street where my father was born was the scene of a murder.

Mr friend in NYC lived just down the block from where a man was murdered on the street at 2 PM in the afternoon a couple of days ago.

Its touching all of us now.

Getting rid of guns won’t stop the violence — but its a good excuse for getting us to accept what Obama really wants.

Tell me, if anyone can, since Adam’s mother was NOT associated with the school…WHY did he go there and slaughter ALL the YOUNGEST…it was the kindergarten class, right?

It seems he couldn’t have chosen a more heartbreaking group to slaughter. And for what reason…?

Maybe Barry can tell us. He seems to have all the answers.

It was the whole it takes a village meme.

Not surprising, as that attitude – a collectivist one – is a trait of today’s liberals.

this kind if idolatry by the media for a politican has to be rejected in a country that wants to remain a free people.

  • Jason Anderson

Wow…Everyone on this site is continuting to make this political, when this is a human tragedy.

I never voted for Obama, and I do not agree with how he has handled the economy, but he is not an evil person. I do not believe there is a hidden agenda, like some who have responsed believe.

Pray for the dead and their families, and instead of criticizing, please suggest how we can fix this.

So WTF gets to politicizes this while the blood on the floor is still warm, and we are to remain silent while he and the Left uses every avenue available to them to attacks our Rights. The Lame Stream Media keeps sniffing at WTF potty warmer, and only promotes his agenda, well guess what we will not buy into that propaganda BS for one second. We will not be silent while we see an obvious attempt to infringe on our Rights being perpetrated by a group who accept killing babies as a political platform. Get over yourself.

By the way WTF is the very embodiment of evil, lies misdirection, secretive, and working tirelessly at dividing the nation to cement his power.

…but he is not an evil person.

Whether he is or not, he seems to be trying his damndest to prove otherwise.

#9 Dave, you and every other Liberal are wringing your hands and crying about this is some sort of epidemic, oh gun crime is so whack out-of-control in the US, we’re so violent and eeevil, something needs to be done, only the Big Daddy government can solve this, oh whiiine.

When the fact is, there are on average about 10,000 gun-related homicides each year in this country, which is an infinitesimal number considering half of the 320 million people in the US legally own well over 100 million firearms between them. http://www.gunpolicy.org/firearms/region/united-states

And here’s another fact… in the US there are on average only 466 violent crimes committed per 100,000 residents. Compare that low number to the UK – where handguns are absolutely forbidden (so they use other ‘tools’ to maim and kill, such as baseball bats, knives, fists, etc) – where there are on average an eye-popping 2,034 violent crimes committed per 100,000 residents. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1196941/The-violent-country-Europe-Britain-worse-South-Africa-U-S.html#ixzz26wzY4fYS

I know facts and statistics are hard for the Libtard to appreciate, but there you have it in black and white. But yet for some reason you will still come after my legally owned firearms in the insane hope that by taking away legal firearms from sane gun owners, you’ll somehow stop crazy-evil from committing mass murder-suicide. Typical of Libtard thinking, which is why surely you voted for Obama.

#32jason…has bought the lie that communists are not evil people. communists are the most evil people in the history of the world.

    “People will long remember…”

I just love the little Lincoln journalistic twist. Why is it usually entitled white people who call for guns to be outlawed?

  • Lightwave

“In the coming weeks, I’ll use whatever power this office holds to engage my fellow citizens, from law enforcement, to mental health professionals, to parents and educators, in an effort aimed at preventing more tragedies like this, because what choice do we have?”

And it begins. This isn’t his Gettysburg Address. It’s his speech after the Reichstag fire.

Wake up. America is now in mortal peril.
