Sorry Libs… The NRA Was There to Help Blacks Defend Themselves From KKK Democrats, Not the Other Way Around

On September 28, 1868, a mob of Democrats massacred nearly 300 African-American Republicans in Opelousas, Louisiana. The savagery began when racist Democrats attacked a newspaper editor, a white Republican and schoolteacher for ex-slaves. Several African-Americans rushed to the assistance of their friend, and in response, Democrats went on a “Negro hunt,” killing every African-American (all of whom were Republicans) in the area they could find. (Via Grand Old Partisan)

Which brings us to today…
Asshat Jason Whitlock, the Kansas City columnist whose article on Jovan Belcher‘s murder-suicide inspired an anti-gun rant by NBC’s Bob Costas, now says that the pro-Second Amendment National Rifle Association is “the new KKK,” Newsbusters’ Tim Graham reported Monday.

Obviously, Whitlock is as ignorant as he is offensive.
The NRA actually helped blacks defend themselves from violent KKK Democrats in the south, not the other way around.
Ann Coulter wrote about the history of blacks and the NRA back in April.

This will give you an idea of how gun control laws worked. Following the firebombing of his house in 1956, Dr. Martin Luther King, who was, among other things, a Christian minister, applied for a gun permit, but the Alabama authorities found him unsuitable. A decade later, he won a Nobel Peace Prize.

How’s that “may issue” gun permit policy working for you?

The NRA opposed these discretionary gun permit laws and proceeded to grant NRA charters to blacks who sought to defend themselves from Klan violence — including the great civil rights hero Robert F. Williams.

A World War II Marine veteran, Williams returned home to Monroe, N.C., to find the Klan riding high — beating, lynching and murdering blacks at will. No one would join the NAACP for fear of Klan reprisals. Williams became president of the local chapter and increased membership from six to more than 200.

But it was not until he got a charter from the NRA in 1957 and founded the Black Armed Guard that the Klan got their comeuppance in Monroe.

Williams’ repeated thwarting of violent Klan attacks is described in his stirring book, “Negroes With Guns.” In one crucial battle, the Klan sieged the home of a black physician and his wife, but Williams and his Black Armed Guard stood sentry and repelled the larger, cowardly force. And that was the end of it.

As the Klan found out, it’s not so much fun when the rabbit’s got the gun.

The NRA’s proud history of fighting the Klan has been airbrushed out of the record by those who were complicit with the KKK, Jim Crow and racial terror, to wit: the Democrats.

Sadly, asshat Whitlock will get away with his outrageous lies.
The early KKK Democrats would be proud.

So what would happen if we all call NBC and complain that Bob Costas must be a racist. What is he suggesting? That blacks shouldn’t be allowed to own guns?

LOL… I bet this would scare the libs and shut them up on the gun control issue if we use the racist card against them for it.

I think thast a lot of these “stars get handed a script by their Manager. Most are dumb as posts.
Costas is the Newel post. “Here red this, it is our turn” and so the donks get the rant out and as ususal it is a bell that is rung. the GOP never has anyone to respond. We really need an agnew or a atwater to rake the Donks and stars over the coals.

I was very happy to hear talk radio jump all over this today.
    if you don’t know, and

(then get yourself an private, plug-in FM transmitter and listen on any home radio)

I think Rush was asserting Whitlock’s “publicity stunt” to satirize the ‘Fluke’ fluke.

my favorite rebuttal was that no Lefty would blame cultural rot or family breakdown, would they? My speculation is that the murderer wanted his long-time girlfriend (not wife) to get an abortion. When she refused, he saw his huge salary in jeopardy from a bratty, unwanted child.
(which, oh not-so-by-the-way, is a dirty little secret- CADS Love Abortion!)

  • Great story, Jim

The NRA is only ‘the new KKK’ to those who’s agenda benefits by slandering them

Same as the Tea Party are ‘Nazis’ and Paul Ryan is ‘extreme’… whatever

Brace yourselves folks. We’re in for four long years of this nonsense. It’s up to us to fight it relentlessly, and make sure it doesn’t gain traction …

  • Highlander #7

Actually we are in for 12 long years of it since Michelle Obama will almost certainly run in 2016, and she will win the same way bin Obama did. I hate to make you sick but the GOP needs to understand the consequences of having no spine.

    I think everyone here at GP understands this to one degree or another but to repeat;

They think we are sexist, racist and homophobic, etc. Would you negotiate with a racist, sexist, homophobic, bigot?

Now for the grassroots we KNOW the Dems are far left loons who want to fundamentally transform America, YET, our so called leaders in Washington negotiate like the Dems are just slightly left of center politicians who love the country but have ‘slightly’ different policies.

Historical Fact: Behind every KKK hooded robe is a Registered Democrat.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Costas.

  • Jack

That might be true but unless people like Rush, Levine, Beck, Hannity and politicians start fighting the racist dems head on these lies will stick. I would love to see Hannity devote half of his show to the history of democrat racism-from the past to the present. It would cause and uproar and bring the conversation to the forefront.

Revisionist History keeps blacks on The DemocRAT plantation of poverty and despair . . .

Please remind our Black American colleagues that:
    – More black families are torn apart today then under slavery. . .
    – More black children are fatherless today than under slavery. . .
    – More black males are in prison than working today than under slavery. . .
    – More blacks are enslaved to drugs, gangs or poverty today than under slavery. . .
    – and More black mothers are dependent on their slave-master – -the federal gub-ment!

And the Gub-ment, they ’em want dose handguns of yers. . so dey can controll ya better!

  • Sam Stone

Many many liberals believe now and will believe in the future that the KKK was the right wing of the political spectrum. They will NEVER believe the truth.

  • mg4us

Oh and let’s not forget the dirty little secret about Slavery. .

That it was their Black African Brothers that sold them to the white man in the first place.

Often the result of tribal conflicts and defeat on the dark continent of Africa. . the losing tribe was either slaughtered, ran away or was captured and sold into slavery while the winners kept their women and cattle.

Slavery STILL exists in parts of Africa. . as well as Saudi Arabia and soon Egypt again. . .

Libs, who are the most racist people I have had the misfortune to know, are going to continue the narrative that right-wingers, republicans, conservatives, are racists because it works. We could take all the people who believe this lie, transport them back in time to witness for themselves the lies, and most would still believe the narrative the liars on the left have established it has become so ingrained in their psyche.

mg4us, what’s your overall point? Are you saying that Black people were better off during slavery? Are you attempting somehow to say that racism isn’t a thing because whites weren’t the ones who sold Africans into slavery?

Once again, can someone tell me why I should equate the Democrats of a century ago with those today? Can you not get past their name?

  • Sasja

One other thing. We worked with a chap, who just happens to be black, who made the statement, when we pointed out a mis-deed perpetrated by one black against another, that “Better a black man than a white man.” How can one argue against that so-called logic? Which we tried to do, by the way, but to no avail. He still, to this day, believes that black on black crime is no big deal, but let someone with lighter skin scam a Black and it’s the crime of the century.

  • Sasja

Well, Dave, the democrats haven’t changed much in the past 100+ years. Just their modus operanda. They learned that, with the help of the Jesse Jacksons, Al Sharptons of the world, they can keep their black constituents on the demoRat plantation even while these same people witness the utter destruction of their families and way-of-life. Ole Jesse and Al are just the modern-day slave trader in a way. Selling their brothers and sisters while being handsomely rewarded monetarily along the way.

And Dave, what false statements have I made?

Look, if Avenue Q taught me anything, it’s that everyone’s a litle bit racist. But those who have been the most powerful in their hate for people of color in my life have also been those who consider themselves Republicans. I’m not saying that Republicans are racist, because it’s foolish to make such a sweeping statement. But, I have known far more racist Republicans than I have racist Democrats.

    – No one support the destruction of African American families more than DNC.
    – No one supports promotion of degradation of morals and ethics more than DNC.

And now we are supposed to believe that NRA is like KKK. The very organization that enabled African Americans to defend themselves against KKK?

  • Once a lie is told by the liberals enough times, it becomes “truth”..

How weak America is too sit on the couch, and not take the time to read true history.

We have a leadership (lying) problem in the White house.

  • Chris in N.Va.

The physical boundaries of the Democrat/KKK (but I repeat myself) plantation may have changed, but the mindset of keeping “those people” in “their place” in the “natural order of things” has not. They still violently (verbally and/or physically) oppose and attack any of “them folk” that get a tad too “uppity” and who begin to think that they are capable of living outside of the Plantation apart from the condescending oversight of Massah and Ma’am.

Can’t let that happen, now, can we? Keep ’em permanently ignorant (like this racist columnist twit) and dependent upon their “betters” and they’ll keep eternally voting for their “keepers.”

Ol’ Lunchbox-for-brains Biden is kinfolk with this ignorance-spouting sportswriter. No, Joe, it’s the Republicans who got Black folk OUT OF the chains that the Democrats KEPT “them folk” in for generations.

It’s an interesting exercise to talk to African-American workmates who have been raised outside of and even inside of historical (and hysterical) churches who continue to serve up the Dem Kook-Aid with their Communion. The Dems have done an excellent job of whitewashing (word intentionally used here in all its irony) their rabidly racist past and transferring their collective sins upon the Republican scapegoat. I am continually amazed when I present some of the actual history with glaring repudiations of Dem talking points and get responses of, “Wow, I never knew that.” Of course, sometimes it’s immediately followed up by the classic Democrat reply whenever their arguments (or straw man) prove to be Emperors-without-clothes, “But the Republicans…”

  • Comrade J

A libtard around here is spewing the propaganda that KKK was like so long ago for DNC.
    Let’s examine the lie:

    Who is Robert Byrd?
Dem Senator who was in Congress untill 2010. Amongs his great “achievements” was his Grand Kleegle (whatever that is) title in KKK and voted against Civil Rights Act. Yeah you know KKKer who died in the office in 2010. old old history…

Some one wondered why they should concern themselves with the past Democrats. They might consider looking at the patterns it produces. Their core behavior hasn’t really changed, overt Gov’t control over the flock of sheep they believe Americans have become. Generations of African Americans have been brain-washed to think they are owed an existence, and are blameless because of slavery. Something that ended More than 100 years ago. If the past is irrelevant, than so is their need for reparations ,Affirmative Action, disparate outcomes, etc.

How blatant does “Shadow” and others lie about “Southern Strategy”. Let’s count the ways:

    – Shadow yesterday offered Wiki as a “proof” of southern strategy. That is “republican sources” are “lies”. Hmm so Wiki is neutral? Where are most sources on Wiki are from? Hmm… totally neutral – New York Times.

    – Ok well maybe New York Times and other publications in spite of being libby can still tell truth? Let’s see. From the neutral Wikipedia page:

The Southern states, traditionally Democratic up to that time, voted Republican primarily as a statement of opposition to the Civil Rights Act, which had been passed by Johnson and the Democrats in Congress earlier that year.

Is that true? That Democrats in opposition to republicans passed Civil Rights Act? Let’s see the votes:

    Senate votes:
    Democratic Party: 46–21 (69–31%)
    Republican Party: 27–6 (82–18%)

    House votes:
    Democratic Party: 153–91 (63–37%)
    Republican Party: 136–35 (80–20%)

You don’t say. The libtarded propaganda on Wiki LIED.

Well what else did it lie about? So glad you asked:

The strategy was first adopted under future Republican President Richard Nixon and Republican Senator Barry Goldwater in the late 1960s

    That would be 1968?

Well funny thing happened in most Southern states before that. They started voting REPUBLICAN. BEFORE 1968

Go ahead and look up the voting history.

Conclusion? It’s obvious. Libtards, “shadow” included, LIE.

You stupid Democrats believe EVERYTHING the Democratic party tells you. The Democrats don’t care about ANYONE except themselves. That’s why you have more wealthy Democrats in Washington than wealthy Republicans. The truth is Democrats want to tell everyone else how to spend YOUR OWN money, but you don’t have a right to tell them how to spend their money. Illinois (Democrat) governor Quinn said when he raised the state income tax from 3% to 5% that it wouldn’t effect the working poor. He lied. I’m single white working poor female. Because of the Democratic tax structure in Illinois I end up owing Illinois state income tax. Plus because Quinn is trying to give un-documented workers (illegals) the same rights as United States citizens it’s almost impossible for a white person who doesn’t speak Spanish & who doesn’t have an expensive college degree to find a decent job. You can’t get government add unless you have a child under 18 living with you. Are the Democrats so moraly deficant they want to encourage women to have children out of wedlock that they can’t afford to support? What is wrong with you Democrats?

Too bad the Politifact article and this one are talking about entirely different claims. Polifact only looked at the claim made on the purpose of the NRA’s founding. Which was, in fact, to improve civilian marksmanship. However, they made no mention way one or another about whether the NRA helped blacks in regards to their 2nd Amendment rights.

I rate you comment a pants on fire deliberate distortion.

  • Bart

Where in this article does it say the NRA founding had anything to do with slaves? The article simply points out that the NRA helped blacks exercise their 2nd Amendment rights when the racist Democrats were trying to deny them firearms. The purpose of their founding does not preclude other actions.

Have to admit, you libturds are good at using things out of context and diverting attention from the issue at hand.

Those “KKK Democrats” you’re talking about are today’s Republican base. You only need to look at recent electoral maps to make this abundantly clear. Today’s parties have the the same names as the ones we had prior to the 1960s, but they are not at all the same parties. It’s important to remember that in a winner-take-all system like the US, parties are actually coalitions, and that—just as in all systems of government—coalitions shift over time.

  • Buck Nut

    In your dreams …

  • saraha180

It’s nice when the nuts label themselves for you. 🙂

  • Arnold Slaughter

This is not the complete truth. Williams never revealed to the NRA that his organization was Black. If he has done so they would have never granted his charter. See the transcript from a interview of his wife in 1999.

  • Highlander

Seems to me that you’re the one who can’t face reality ….

  • Highlander

So, an obvious racist says she’s “sure” the NRA would have revoked their charter if they knew they were black, and that’s proof positive to you the NRA is a racist organization? What a blooming moron you are …

  • Bart

Your assertion that the NRA would have denied the charter had it known it was a black organization is found no where in the link. It is a deliberate distortion of the facts on your part.

Mrs. Mabel simply stated the NRA wasn’t sure. That could go either way – maybe they knew, maybe they didn’t.

    Here’s her verbatim statement:

They didn’t know for sure [we were black] because when Robert sent off for the charter he had himself as an author. He had Dr. Perry as a doctor. He had some of the—. Oh, he had one of our officers, McDowell, as a businessman. He had, I think, the women he put down housewives. And he put construction, contractor for the construction workers. And we got our first charter like that. And it’s really fun. The year that Rob passed away, the National Rifle Association wanted him to come to Texas to speak about how we survived in the south with guns.

Now tell me again how she said, “if the NRA knew we were black they wouldn’t have given us a charter.”

  • arnold

Look further down in the transcript she states:

I’m sure when we joined and the years after then, had they
known we were a black group, they would have revoked our charter.

  • arnold

I never said the NRA was racist. I only highlighted a fact.

  • Buck Nut

Your comments were deleted because when you repeat the same comment over and over, the spam filter treats them as spam. One was left intact, so your voice was heard.

  • Highlander

Hearsay and conjecture are NOT facts you dope … they’re opinion. She has NO IDEA what the NRA would have done with that charter, and from all the available evidence, it sure seems likely to me that it would have been welcomed.

  • arnold

She was a Black person who lived in the 1950’s. She knew and you would too if you had any logic. Do you really believe the NRA with it’s pure white past would charter a black chapter. You are not that dumb you can read and write.

  • Highlander

She was obviously a RACIST with a axe to grind, and her OPINION is not fact. Period. So, who’s being dumb here Arnold?

  • Highlander

Sorry Arnie, but who’s the stupid one? You’re always entitled to your own opinion here, but not to your own version of the facts. If you insist on coming here and stating your opinion as fact, you can expect to be called out on it EVERY time. Oh, and by the way … trying to turn things around and deflect from the truth by labeling ME a racist isn’t going to work either. I’ve been dealing with people like you for a long time.

Now, why don’t you pick a recent post about something a little more pertinent, and we’ll see if you can manage to abandon your race-baiting long enough make a comment that’s coherent and factual.

  • Harold Svenssen

Historical revisionism at its finest. Just like the article above shows, the racist history of the Democrats continues to this day with policies that deny blacks gun ownership (the most stringent gun control laws were passed by Dems and disproportionately affect blacks in large Dem controlled cities), imply blacks are inferior to whites (affirmative action assumes black can’t achieve the same as whites without help from whites), and that destroy the black family (welfare laws that encourage out of wedlock births, tax laws that discourage marriage). That was the Democrat philosophy 150 years ago, and it remains so today. The rhetoric has changed, but the underlying racism remains.

  • Harold Svenssen

Sorry idiot. You made the assertion, you bear the burden of proof. You should have attended grade school instead of choomin’ in the bathroom.

  • Harold Svenssen

The Whig party failed to exist after the 1850s. Just because Lincoln was a Whig at some point in his career has nothing to do with his party affiliation as POTUS. That this point seems to allude you is scary.

  • Harold Svenssen

Historical revisionism once again. Electoral maps mean nothing in this context. What matters is the ownership of inherently racist policies by the Democrats from 200 years ago til today.

  • Harold Svenssen

A clear lack of reading comprehension on your part.

  • Douglas B.

Right over your head man. Just forget it.

You may want to look into the difference between ‘allude’, and ‘elude’ though. Just for future reference.

  • Lawrence Wiggins

where is the evidence to support this claim?

  • corey2444

dbeesokc, that’s what the powers that be want you to think. I’m pretty sure they are the global communists that we gave our power away so they can influence all aspects of news and information to the masses. Great men 50-100 years ago warned us that Communists were infiltrating all aspects of government/media/Hollywood and they unfortunately were ignored..

  • michael hamilton

Ahh yes, that famous magical day. January 33rd 1962 I think it was when the parties inexplicably changed sides.

  • William Carpenter

And NAMBLA supports the Democrats…so what? The point is that the NRA does not support the KKK. You can’t stop anyone from supporting you, but supporting them is a totally different thing.

  • Scott Kubinek

  • Elliemae

    What facts?

  • flagirl336

    What “facts”?
It’s very interesting that the Democrat Party only just recently started pretending that it used to be the Republican Party. What a joke!
But all the evidence says otherwise.

  • flagirl336

Would be great, wouldn’t it? It’s hard to work to fix the country when you’ve got folks who are trying to destroy the country.

  • Stephen Zeigler

I have been trying to get this point across to my black friends for years. They really don’t care. Our schools have fed them lies and half truths for so long they now believe it to be the gospel. Fortunately some leaders in the black community are speaking up about who is really trying to help and has a long history of supporting not just their cause but all held down by the democratic socialist agenda.

  • russellbennett

Who could forget The late Senator Robert Byrd of west Virginia. 2nd in command in the KKK. He was the recruiter. How about Governor George Wallace Or David Duke they didn’t hid the their feelings and they were Democrats.

  • Warbard
  • Warbard

Democratic revisioning once again and most inaccurate. Let us take a look at two Democratic Segregationists who were major players in Congress during that time. One remained Democrat, joined KKK at 24 and became an Exalted Cyclops in West Virginia. He refused military service because he did not want to serve with a “non-white”. The other one became a Republican in 1964 because the Democrats begun its move to the left. He then chose to reconcile with those same black citizens that he previously stood against and in 1971, he hired a black gentleman who helped guide him as Senator to understand his South Carolina constituents. Let us remember that both were raised in this culture, but one attempted to make changes, and it was the one who became a Republican.

  • Warbard

By the way, women being allowed to vote occurred with support from Republicans from the beginning. Yes, some Democrats voted in favor, but not as many as Republicans and only because by the time the vote passed, the Suffrage movement was overwhelming them. Even “Kaiser Wilson” (as suffragettes called him) had no choice but to surrender and eventually spun a 360 on his position to supported them in the end, thanks to Republicans.

  • John Gullion

And when the blacks got organized and took on the Democrats, the Racist Peckerwood faction, (Jesse Helms, Strom Thurmond) ran to the GOP, and continued being racists. Lincoln must be rolling in his grave at what the clowns have done to his party.

  • Greg ‘King Saeed’ Williams

    LOL — Revisonary history

  • madmax80

Just like the Dixiecrats took over the Republican party back then. They have taken over the NRA now. That’s why they are not publishing it now.

  • Madison Anderson

2008 the KKK came out on television stood there with their growns without the hoodies and said “that they supported Obama” they sure di.Search for that news video.

  • MommyK1

What “facts”? Democratics today are as ardently anti gun and most conservatives support the Second Amendment for all; how has your assertion; shown a flip flop or that the alliances in history are not valid. Today you have Democrats CLAIMING they support and uphold the needs of african Americans yet; every policy they enact in the name of; is actually harmful. Look at abortion; “women’s rights” and choice”… you have the left levying a war on women; yet we learn that in NYC in 2012 out of 45K births only 20K survive abortion in the black community? Look at the unemployment; the poverty, the high school drop outs in black community? What has the Dem platform done for this constituent? NOTHING.

  • Luis Alfredo Martinez

So what you are saying is that todays Republicans are the champions of the downtrodden and advocates for the minorities like the Black, Brown, and Women in this country right, so tell me if this is so, why is it that your party is completely controlled by white men and you have problems getting support from the Black, Hispanic and Women voters, is that also the fault of the Democrats, if you so claim it is, why have they won the majority in vote in the past two elections, hmmm.

  • Michael David Colon

Sorry, conservatives, the NRA during this era was not the same as the NRA of the present. Do your research before doing an article like this. Thank you.

  • Michael David Colon

Historical revisionism? Did white nationalists also buy into this lie as well? David Duke was a democrat and is now a republican. And most white nationalists identify as conservatives. What is being revised here?

  • Michael David Colon

And the NRA used to be “ardently anti gun” as well.

  • OncealwaysaMarine

LMAO. Every time you pull the mask of the Democratic Party of Low Expectations, especially for black Americans, you see that in reality they are the same Democratic Party they were when they were founded. They didn’t have any respect for black-skinned Americans during slavery days and they don’t have any respect for black-skinned Americans today with their “excusing” or “understanding” ONLY as it applies to black Americans who act out in ignorance (sagging pants, cursing, and rapping hatred of self and hatred of women)..

Just look at what the Democratic Party has done to black Americans for all their phony compassion and pretend understanding: They uphold any black man in his ignorance, yet disparage any black man who dares rise above it.

  • Jeffrey

Support your statement or retract it. Since you are so big on research you should have no trouble.

  • JimmieMee

They are not ignorant…they are liars….a difference that is important

  • Guest

Just because some nationalist try to hijack the party, does not mean we listen to listen to them. The party has never changed its stance on race. To act like the parties switched would mean “SHOW US THE POLICY CHANGES” which of course the dems cannot do. Republicans have not changed their stance, we still oppose racism and keeping any race down. Nothing in republican policy is racist. Dems policies are still very racist. Hence the parties have not switched. You don’t use a broad brush on a party because a few jerks joined it. Instead you look at actual policy, and that is something the dems cannot handle.

Now we‘ve got to do something about this, we‘ve got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference.”
    ~Lyndon B. Johnson (Democrat)

  • DreadMighty

Too bad this may have been somewhat true nearly 200 years ago not today. Saying that MLK could defend himself from a sniper is also ridiculous.

  • Justin

Except…no….The NRA actually supported laws passed by California under Reagan intended to disarm the Black Panther Party, who claimed the right to armed self-defense. Also, up until a change in leadership and philosophy, the NRA included responsible gun laws as part of its platform. Who’s revising history now?

  • Matthew

what if you do not have 5.000.00 Dollars and do not have a way to get it.y money was stolen a long time ago before I was born and everyone and their Mommas got my money

  • kevin

You say that But a wise Man would ask for Proof …so I am asking what evidence do you have to prove your perspective ?…..

  • kevin

democrats don’t want Blacks to have Guns simply because when you Flat out Lie to your base you Better hope they are not armed

  • Influence Freedom

You posted party platform and this is not proof of anything. It actually shows the Republicans still have the same exact stance on race equality as it has since Lincoln. If the dems finally say they caught up to us, then great, but policy shows this is not the case. They say one thing in their platform but their votes and policies still to this very day are all about keeping the chains. However, they want to add more people to those chains, now they want the entire nation in the mental slavery of their nanny state, cradle to grave policies. Just like they wanted blacks unarmed then, now they want us all unarmed now, and they want us all convinced how badly we need them to be our mommies and daddies, (really our masters). You can try to use your links to convince people who are clueless on the history and the policies of the parties. However, I know them intimately. I know the right wing is not perfect on some issues of liberty like the gay rights, however I do know the people do care about liberty and equality for all. Unfortunately there is some extremists and we are slowly getting rid of them or shaming them. People lie about an entire party because of a few extremists that had other reasons to join the party not related to racism in any way. The few liberty issues with the right is because they truly feel it destroys families, however, I know in my heart they need to stand by liberty always. So, I work within my side of the aisle hoping to get others to see that liberty is the most important issue above all, and religion is great for some, but it is not to be forced on others. With all that said, to go back to race, again not one thing in your response shows in any way shape or form a switch in the party at all on race issues. Please show me a policy that the right wing believes in and promotes to stop marriage, educating, voting, etc., based on race. Like I said before show me the policies.

  • Phillip

unless the nra was started by black folks it was not created to help them….when the Black Panthers used the 2nd Amendment they changed the law….

  • Outraged

Oh, so only black people are capable of helping black people? Got it …

    You’re a racist.

  • Phillip

the current racist party is the gop….they changed parties after the civil rights laws….

  • Phillip

the reason for the second amendment was to protect the slave owners from the slaves…..

  • Outraged

Wow …you REALLY hate white people don’t you? You should be ashamed of yourself …

  • Outraged

No, the reason for the second amendment is clearly spelled out IN the second amendment you dumbass. Take your racism somewhere else. Isn’t there some racist web site like stormfront for black people?

  • Mike

Where do these people get their “facts”? Furthermore, the NRA wasn’t always an extremist group and a front for the gun industry, that is a fairly recent development made worse by their current loony leadership.

  • Outraged

The NRA is neither an extremist group, nor a “front for the gun industry” Mike. Where do you get YOUR “facts”?

  • Mike

Ah, I watch what they say and do.

  • Highlander

You must not be watching real closely then. I’m an NRA member, and I’m no extremist, nor are any of the other people I know who belong to the NRA. We appreciate how hard the NRA fights for the rights of gun owners, and the gun manufacturers benefit from their efforts by default.

  • Outraged

You’ll never convince someone like Mikey of that …

  • Ben Roberts

Clearly you didn’t know them “intimately” until I pointed it out to you. You are also not ” Unfortunately there is some extremists and we are slowly getting rid of them or shaming them.” because Rand Paul is leading the field in Republican Presidential candidates. I showed tyou the platform, i don’t need to show you the policies because the policies are part of the Congressional Record and there would be way too many to list.

  • Influence Freedom

Are you now claiming Rand Paul is racist? As far as congressional record, you bet I can go look it up and I know of nothing in there where the Republicans reduce the blacks in any legislation. You are the one claiming they switched, so the burden of proof is on you. The party platform showed no such proof, I had said show policy, you claimed you can but you showed platform. You make accusations but are not backing them up. I will await your proof of Rand Paul being a racist, if that is what you are saying?

  • Influence Freedom

Because the right wing does not offer sympathy, favors, or handouts and the Dems did. The right wing platform has always been based on picking yourself up by your own bootstraps, and even the most poor and dependent person in the right wing will still vote republican because they know in their heart this is true, not because of a promised hand out. Clarence Thomas is a Republican. As far as woman go, I am happy to share info on this.
Jeannette Pickering Rank, was a Republican and was the first woman in the United States Congress, elected in Montana. A female in Montana was elected as a Republican in 1916 and she was elected again in 1940. Her famous quote after being elected in 1916 is, “I may be the first woman member of Congress but I won’t be the last.”

It means we could move forward as woman in politics, even before we had the right to vote.

Hattie Carraway a Democrat got her seat originally due to her husbands passing. I don’t much care for her because she was a Democrat who stood by lynchings.

Do you know that while Democrat woman got appointed originally because their husbands died or had to leave office for some reason in the Senate, it was actually Republican woman who got voted in, or special elections and appointments. Not until 1960 did a Democrat woman get voted in without an appointment first. Then the rest of the Democrats still only made it into office by appointment after that until 1987. Compare that to the majority of Republican woman who won their seats by election, not appointment.

Republican woman were in the House from 1916-1937. Republican woman Served in the Congress for those first twenty years. Democrat woman were in after that.

Where did you get the idea the republican party is all white men? You do not know then about the strong Republican woman and the strong Republican minorities. Do you know there is also strong gays (Log Cabin Republicans) on the right side of the aisle? Do you believe the television and movies and comedians when they all act like the right wing is nothing but religious bigots, sexists and racists? If that is what you believe it is liberal brainwashing. They are using extremists from the right as a representative of us all. Also, republicans are not about being champions of the downtrodden etc., Their nature is to strive for the best, do your best, and don’t whine about it. If you truly need help, and that help is because it is wanted to move forward with then this is fine and acceptable. However, the right side of the aisle is well known to contribute more to charity and also through churches known to help more downtrodden. It does not mean the left does not, because they do. Liberty is the best way to help people out of poverty. Another thing, look up the numbers, the Republicans are not the rich white party. Again a myth, the richest politicians are Democrats, the biggest contributors are democrats. People assume because the Republicans do care about business and yes big business because that is who hires people, that this also means they are all these greedy rich white men. Sure, there is greedy rich white men, but they are in BOTH parties. The media, in all forms and all their mouth pieces always slams the right, because the right is really about the Constitution, the right to self defense, the right to not have government intruding at every level. It does not mean the politicians are all good (because most are not) but the people in the party believe in liberty. Some on the right have problems though with 3 issues, and the left seizes on these 3 issues as champions to make it seem like they are liberty lovers. Gay rights, abortion and maybe, drugs. The reason the left seizes on this is because they know the right sees these as corrosive to the family unit. We battle each other over these issues within the right wing though. I am not Christian I am for ending the War on Drugs, I also, support gay marriage. I cannot say I am only about liberty when I feel it is right. I have to go with liberty even if it is not what I personally believe in. If the person harms no other person, then no crime has occurred. I believe if I value liberty then I cannot dictate another humans consciousness. You would be surprised at how many on the right feel this way. We are constantly being bombarded with lies about the party though, because it is a fact that almost all media is owned by the left. We have Koch and Murdock on our side. However they own few channels or publications when compared to Soros, Buffet, and others. The left also always demonizes Koch brothers because of their contributions. Where is the left on Soros or Buffet’s or the Unions contributions. The leftist policies try to dictate ones self-defense, how to raise the child, when they think it is best to sex educate them and how, what foods to eat, how much pop to drink, how you should school your child, and on and on and on. NANNY STATE. No party that believes in a nanny state can actually believe in freedom at all, so they seize only on 3 issues and lie and claim they are about freedom. They think they always know what is best for everyone, because in their minds they are superior, they are the intellects. A leftist leader will think going to a gallary for an art exhibit is fun, but if you go camping and mudding you are a hick. Fun different than their fun is “trash.” What does our party have, we have RINO’s who suck, we have some extremist Christians, and we have some neo nazi’s which sucks. They are not in the party though because of rich white men. They are in the party often because of other policies like we are hard core, pro 2nd Amendment, we are not P.C police, say whatever you want, we believe strongly in free speech even if we hate what the person says. Notice it is not the right wing who has lawyers all over calling up stations to get people fired. We are starting though to get pist and responding loud and clear and calling out the hypocrisy. Many people do like that about the right wing. Ultimately there is many reasons people feel better with the right then the left. Does our party need serious fixing, it does, we are working hard on it. We have serious liberty candidates in there now and we are trying to get out some crap within our party. We are going for the jugular of the RINO’s etc., I am not preaching, and I know I made broad brush stroke statements about the left politicians. However their politicians, it is a fact and policy, not interpretation but policy that proves the left is the nanny state party, and they are the party always after the 2nd Amendment, and they do believe in mental chains on all people, by utilizing the nanny state against us all.

Since I have been banned from the far Left site Mother Jones, I am replying to your vapid comment on this thread:

    >”making fox talking points sound even dumber….”<

I flirted with big government liberalism (collectivism) as a young adult, but became a conservative in the mid 1980s (before I ever heard of Rush Limbaugh and long before Fox News, etc.).

I speak my views (which are fact based).

Now you can go marinate in collectivism at Mother Jones, Media Matters or MSNBC.

  • Buck Nut

Well Wild, this pathetic foul-mouthed troll has been banned here too, so that pretty much evens things out …

Republicans, and Democrats, change stances all the time. People change stances all the time. The people who don’t, don’t. The people who do, do. Republicans disagree with each other, Democrats disagree with each other. Policies change all the time. Internal party struggles happen all the time. The actual policy can be twisted in any way, shape, or form relative to interpretation and factors of power. “You don’t use a broad brush on a party because a few jerks joined it.” Well…you don’t use a broad brush on any large party that supposedly represents over 25 million people….let alone an entire nation. You can look at actual policy all you want, you really only have two major choices, blue or red. Anyone who’s mature enough to distinguish individuals from the pack would realize that those are too few choices.

  • fl6stringer

You bring SALON into this argument?!? Don’t even…. 😛

thats why the Dems author bills and laws that make it easier for blacks instead of maintaining or striving for true equality.

A fanciful lie that republicans tell themselves because they don’t want top be what they are, the bad guy. . The country in those days was divided North and South, not dem GOP so this period was no0t as exceptional as it seems. Southern dems were almost as bad as Southern republicans but make no mistake, those republicans were just as bad as they are today. When you look at the laws they voted against it was divided North and South with Northern republican being just as much of a bunch of Aholes as Southern dems.

  • Jason Smith

So, they passed the civil rights issue and then said, “We changed our minds”.

That’s just a bunch of hogwash.

Liberal policies are destroying the black community and the Right is to blame because we won’t give you any more money.

That’s all it will take is just a little more money, right?

  • Chuck Haggard

That the entire history of gun control is one of blatant racism is conveniently forgotten by the people who push that agenda.

  • Michael Reed

Flip-flopped??? I don’t think so, my friend. The Democrats are still the same racist, tax and spend, Liberal Marxist party they have always been but they’ve just managed to infiltrate and influence the Republican party to be almost as Liberal as the Democrats are. Republicans aren’t Conservative as a whole. There’s only a few who are and they have been marginalized out to the fringes of the party and labelled as extremists. Contrary to the Liberal narrative, Conservatives are NOT inherently racist nor insensitive to minority issues. Conservatives just have different solutions to these issues that don’t involve keeping minorities locked into a lifetime of dependence on the Democrats or any other party! As far as the NRA not being the same one that existed in earlier times, they still have the same agenda, philosophy and purpose!

  • russellbennett

The Democrats are ashamed of their history so instead of denying it they try to blame someone else, Not exactly new for Democrats. Today a lot of Blacks know what LBJs war on poverty did to the Black Familys

The Dems ARE the same. They are still trying to keep the black man down, keep him poor, keep him dependent. The only difference now, Dems have fooled the black man into thinking he can not survive without handouts, essentially keeping him a slave to the government, and keeping his vote!

  • guest

Roles have not changed; the only thing that changed was the black votes. When MLK was being hounded by the FBI and such, the GOP backed away from him due to the negative publicity. JFK, who voted against civil rights, saw an opportunity to get the Presidency if he could swing the black vote. So he coveted MLK, even though he stood against civil rights. Once they got MLK, it was a mass exodus from the GOP. Wasn’t it FDR that said he would get the N—s to vote their side for a 100 years by giving them just enough to make them feel good? Something like that.. Anyway, that’s the Dem policy of today, so it fits.

They have medication for your condition dbeesokc.

Wrong Anne…I was there during that election and it had nothing to do with race. Had everything to do with Unions and first and foremost war. Goldwater was considered a hawk and wanted to kick some Russian Ass and run them back up where they belong and Johnson was meek and limp, didn’t want to do anything and of course Johnson was for the Unions who backed him. My dad was president of a local union so I remember this

  • Cadence Wallace

    Huffington Post?

  • Ron Boutwell

Those are the facts as they were related to you and as you prefer to believe them. But it is BS spin, in this case, wishful thinking for people who support the left and don’t want to feel bad about doing so.

  • Chris Haugen

Democrats were the conservatives, Republicans were the progressives. The story of how those labels eventually switched socially, has to be a good one. It’s crazy to be a Modern Democrat and know the majority of your ideology was once the Republican(s), as labeled, until the 1900’s.

  • Guest

Actually, while it is true the Democrats flipped their position to now count on minority votes, the idea that the Republicans “flipped” is made up by the Democrats. If there were lynchings or KKK attacks today, the Republicans would be just as opposed as they were then and would want to see justice done.

  • Guest

Indeed, just look at the way the Democratic Press goes after any conservative Black man. They don’t back Black people. They only back Black people who agree with them and don’t question their position.

  • Dan

If what you say is true can you explain how The democrats(Obama #1 offender) is for Slavery and is pushing to allow it in the TPP to get the slave countries on board with his agenda? The roles have not changed.. They never have.. Nice try…. Democrats run Detroit and it is only focused on race. Everywhere the democrats are in charge you have a lot of racial hate crimes. Where republicans are in charge you have low unemployment and much lower crime and hate crime rates. You can not argue these facts.. These are facts not an emotional feeling..

  • Kentucky red

Its the NRA that thinks people should be allowed the tools to defend themselves no matter what ethnic group they look like!

  • Don P

If you know ANYTHING about history, and have a human soul, you would NEVER be a democrat, or a liberal.

  • Don P

How many of the republicans that passed the civil rights bill of 1964 switched parties to become democrats?

  • Don P

Idiots like Michael David Colon would like you to believe that because a few democrats of the time defected the democratic party, that the rolls changed. They did not,… those democrats that ran from the democratic party did so to save their political careers, nothing more, nothing less.

  • Don P

Actually, No. Nothing relevant at least.

  • Batman

It’s business as usual with both parties and has been since their forming. Republicans are the Force and Democrats the Dark Side.

  • Ronald Freitas

The Democrats have always been assholes and terrorists

  • Nelson “Lone Wolf” Soto

It’s about time someone got it right! After centuries have gone by people in this Country are STILL in denial with the Democratic party! The KKK has destroyed this country and the southern pride of our southern folks Confederate Flag by instigating the hate in minorities for centuries. If the Confederate Flag was NEVER used by the KKK and the Democratic party the Flag would be Flying high right now!!!. As a Puerto Rican/Nuyorican born; people need to realizes that educating this Nation is a top problem because the people who hold the Senate and media refuses too educate this great Nation. Without, a foundation to believe and educate this Country is distant to fall. That’s, what Isis is now waiting for because WE continue killing ourselves with haterate and raciest issue’s!. Godspeed and God-Bless this wonderful Country we call United States; even thou we have nothing about being United!.

  • Ronald Freitas

Almost forgot not to mention Democrat racist pigs

  • James Spradling

David Duke was repudiated by Republicans even in his home state of Louisiana! Besides, up until his “conversion”, he was a KKK hood-wearing Democrat.

  • David R. Mueller

The “flip/flop” you claim here is simply another (essentially–there are always exceptions–RINO’s for instance) revisionist story put out by the Dems and libs (who really *aren’t* very liberal in their view of the world) to control the narrative and metanarrative.

  • David R. Mueller

And who is it that is defending Planned Parenthood to the hilt? The organization that has been *most* responsible for the suppression of black American population growth?

  • NormB

Proud to be a benefactor member of America’s oldest civil rights organization.

What have YOU done for race relations lately, libs?

  • sam

Up until the 1930’s the Democratic Party platform was: smaller government, more states rights, and they were notorius conservatives and bigots. Andrew Jackson and most of the south were democrats. Oddly, the republicans of that time period were notorius liberals, also many were men of color, and republicans back then were in favor of big government, old Abe comes to mind. The parties morphed slowly between the civil war and the great depression, flipping positions completely. So, If you were a republican back then, you might have been considered a liberal, and if you were a democrat back then, you might have been considered a conservative, although like today, voting for one party or the other never means you are either strictly liberal or conservative. The majority of both democrats and republicans alike are moderates.

  • Armyvet81

Funny you use the “swapping” story. That story was unheard of 30 years ago. You know why? Because it was recently made up to to distance the Democrat party from its racist roots. Name one Democrat that became Republican or one Republican that became Democrat and the time frames.

  • Armyvet81

Actually, the parties did not switch, the political labels were successfully reversed. Conservatism at one point stood for large government and liberalism for small government (read classical liberalism). Here is a great article discussing how this switch happened and can be largely attributed to Teddy Roosevelt.

  • Kim Bruce

Listen, if the Obama administration is allowed to take away the guns in America all Americans will be vulnerable to complete control by a tyrannical government. I am not saying that the current government is capable of tyranny but anything is possible. Perhaps they are preparing the way for a future tyranny, like National Socialism (Nazism) or Fascism or Communist Islam (a.k.a. the Muslim Brotherhood). And the criminals will always have their guns. Only the victims, the law-abiding folks, like you, won’t have protection.

Did you know that under the yoke of Islam non-believers aren’t allowed to drive cars or carry guns of any kind? Nope! Not even a hunting rifle. Why do you suppose this is in their sharia law? Why do you suppose Obama is vying for gun control? Let’s not forget…Obama was raised as a Muslim in Indonesia. That means he is a Muslim because once you have made the Shahada you are considered a Muslim.(Shahada is the Muslim profession of faith, expressing the two simple, fundamental beliefs that make one a Muslim: La ilaha illa Allah wa-Muhammad rasul Allah. There is no god but God and Muhammad is the prophet of Allah. ) Obama has completed his Shahada and once you are declared a Muslim you cannot leave the faith. That is considered apostasy and the penalty is death, under strict Islamic law.
So, keep your guns and the 2nd Amendment because without the 2nd Amendment you will have no 1st Amendment, 3rd, 4th or 5th, etc.

  • Ambrose Bierce’s Ghost

This article cites an occurrence from 1868 and argues that the NRA helped poor unfortunate souls who were hunted and killed by the KKK in that same year in Louisiana. The only problem is the NRA did not exist in 1868. The NRA was not there to help those victims of gun violence then and it is not here today to help victims of gun violence either.

The NRA was founded in 1871 by, wait for it, New York progressives who were interested in rifle and pistol education (as in rifles not semi-automatics). If the NRA founders lived today they would not likely recognize or support the terrorist enabling NRA of 2015.

And here’s a further truth: the NRA’s 5 million members and the Republican Congress are subjecting 325 million Americans to an extremist, gun fetish subculture. That’s a minority holding the majority hostage. It’s a stand-off that is not going to end well for the gun lovers. It’s only a matter of time now before the Second Amendent goes the way of the 3/5ths clause. The Constitution can be and has been amended.

  • Michael Kocian

That is a complete fabrication from the guilty party in an attempt to put their blame on the innocent.

  • Robert Jones

So, we ARE NOT supposed to judge all Muslims on the actions of a few extremists, but we ARE supposed to judge all conservative Republicans based on the actions of a few extremists. That seems rather hypocritical. That is the liberal Democrat way, though. Cherry-pick the facts that support the agenda and attempt to silence all dissenting voices, or at least demonizing them to the greatest possible extent.

  • Douglas Blowe

why not form a strong Moderate party, I think more Americans today are moderate as opposed to liberal and conservative?

  • Founding Fathers Rule

LOL! In that article it says Lee Oswald shot and killed JFK. Complete fabrication!

  • Mike

I can’t stand salon. I used to read their articles but they have shown to out right lie and or misrepresented represent facts. Didn’t they also run the article written by a pedophile?

  • Mike

That does not even make sense. Hey it took us so many years to fight for civil rights what do we do now? Let’s be the racist ones because
    Well. Reasons

  • Caprock

There are an awful lot of terribly misinformed or flat out ignorant I see below.

People it doesn’t take that much study to realize the Democratic Party and the GOP have not flip flopped one iota. The Democratic Party since it was formed in the late 1820’s has always worked to destroy the USA as originally built. The GOP has, since it’s formation worked to “preserve the Union” as built. “As built” being the term so many knot heads seem to miss.

    Wake up America!

  • Caprock

Doug you might want to educate yourself on exactly what a Constitutional conservative is.

  • Grog61856

    They don’t need to.

  • Grog61856

So what are you saying? Democrats are for the blacks? Have you seen Detroit, Baltimore, Hartford, Bridgeport, or any other Democrat controlled city? If Democrats are so for the blacks, why are so many on welfare? Remember, Democrats controlled both Houses of Congress for 40+ years. Your response is a deranged delusion of utter liberal nonsense.

  • Grog61856

David Duke? Is he still around? The nice thing about history is it can’t be revised, no matter how liberals try to spin it.

  • John

You are presuming that democrats help Blacks?? The last 50 years of democrat social programs have destroyed black society, families, and self-sufficiency. And let’s not forget the “Negro Project” begun by Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood which has terminated 15 million black lives to date. The democrat party has accomplished the destruction of black lives that the KKK could only dream about.

  • chief

Flip flopped? Robert KKK Byrd (D) was the last klan member in the sentate. Al Gore Sr. (D) voted against the civil rights moment. Democrats were losing the battle of equal right then learn how to make them slaves again with LBJ’s war on poverty. “We will have then n****ers voting democrat for the next 100 years” – LBJ. Republicans helped fight for Equal rights! Not for minorities to have more rights. Fighting for more rights for minorities is over compensation by Democrats for the sins of their fathers? Like Al Gore?

  • chief

David Duke said his anger was misguided. He said he learned the problem was not blacks but Goverment. He became libertarian and ran on the Republican party. Explain Robert kkk Byrd? Al Gore Sr. Voting against the civil rights act?

  • Cordstreet

Regardless of history, which Liberals abhor and ignore, those of us that still love our country (warts and all) have to stand up and protect this land from those that wish to destroy it. I don’t need a history lesson to figure out who that is. Do you?

  • Tafur_Kern

Who writes this ridiculous drivel for you? If you had any pride you would be ashamed to post this crap.
The only thing that flipped was the Democratic Party, they went from racist patriots to traitors. Today’s alliances have the Dems (the Left) allied themselves with Islamites. The KKK and Islam are best of buddies; both hate the Jews and both revere Hitler. David Duke was a big hit at the Holocaust Conference hosted by the Mad Mollos of Iran.

    Any Questions?

  • Tafur_Kern

The Republicans were not Liberals let alone notorious liberals. The Civil War was fought to preserve the Union. The main issue was States’ Rights versus the Federal government. True, the underlying problem between the North and the South was slavery. The North believed that it was immoral for human beings to be owned as property.
The 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments ensured that it would not happen again in the United States.

That in itself proves morality can be legislated,

  • TyRockwell

Arimor, you don’t know history. The NRA was founded in 1871, right after the Civil War. It was founded by Republicans who were in favor of freeing blacks from slavery. Abraham Lincoln was a Republican. Democrats were the “dixiecrats” that came out the southern aristocracy, the rich plantation owners and slave masters. The plantations hit on hard times when they no longer had slave labor to work their cotton fields. Democrats tried to keep blacks depending on government hand-outs. They tried to keep blacks segregated in society and schools. President Dwight D. Eisenhauer a Republican, used the National Guard to integrate the public schools in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1957.

  • TyRockwell

David Duke claims to be Republican but Republicans don’t agree with his positions. A lot of Democrats try to infiltrate the GOP, because it is conservative and in the majority in the South because of it. Racist Democrats can’t win most elections in the South, anymore.

  • fl6stringer

    You are correct.

  • GrumpyYoungMan

    Progressive history = Revisionist History

  • John

    That’s a complete myth.
