The liberal media is lambasting NRA President Wayne LaPierre for proposing cops in public schools, forgets that Bill Clinton proposed the same thing back in 2000.
Bill Clinton wanted $60 million for his “COPS in School” program.
The AP reported at the time, via Before It’s News:
“In our national struggle against youth violence we must not fail our children; our future depends on it,” the president said in his weekly radio address.
Parents, teens, teachers, youth workers and others will discuss research that indicates the preteen years set patterns for behavior and success in adulthood. Other subjects will include the risks, challenges and anxieties faced by young people today and what can be done to avoid dangerous or risky behavior.
“We need to talk about safety and security in every house in America,” Clinton said.
Republican critics said the federal government is a clumsy middleman in trying to cope with problems that should be addressed locally. They cast doubt on whether the teen conference would accomplish anything, accused Clinton of ignoring media violence and said he should support stiff jail sentences for anyone carrying a firearm in a violent or drug-related crime.
Clinton announced $40 million in grants for 23 school districts that he said have found successful, comprehensive approaches to help troubled young people.
“These districts are bringing school nurses and counselors together to respond to warning signs like depression or bullying,” Clinton said. “They are improving classroom security and expanding after-school and mentoring programs.”
Clinton also unveiled the $60-million fifth round of funding for “COPS in School,” a Justice Department program that helps pay the costs of placing police officers in schools to help make them safer for students and teachers. The money will be used to provide 452 officers in schools in more than 220 communities.

yes…and the proposed budget for such a program has long been chewed up by providing translators for illegal alien killers on the loose.
Another feature in public schools is that (in TEXAS-VIPS program) they run background checks on parents who seek access to participate in field trips, room helpers, etc. BUT THE IRONY is that they accept the matricula consular which is deemed an acceptable ID. Anyone who has researched this doc knows it is bogus and in my mind with open borders the implications for cross border invaders including Jihadists is wide open. Remember Beslan.

The retarded liberals always rub against the grain don’t you think? If a lib/dem/whatever says something one day and someone else says the same thing later, the knee jerk reaction is always to not use what is left of their feeble brain to think – rather it is to moan, bellyache, complain, deride, obfuscate, redirect, blame, reject, become intransigent, dismiss, or otherwise go against the grain only because someone they target has said it. None are so deaf as those who will not hear, none so blind as those who will not see, and none so stupid as those who will not think.

Greggory also sends his kids to Sidwell and Friends. Apparently his kids are more important than the rest of us.

Nice straw man. But it wasn’t what they said. It was what they didn’t say. They called a “major press conference” claiming they had “meaningful contributions” to make. Yet what they provided was the same old talking points, not even taking questions.
Clinton was providing federal funding for “COPS in School.” The NRA was providing lip service.

We know Obama has no solutions other then taking assault rifles off the market. Or whatever. But if he really wanted to save our babies he would take action and do the right thing and post professionals at every doorway at every school.
This cannot be a POLITICAL THING, is must be done because no amount of money if worth protecting our kids. Obama has spent billions on failed solar pet peeves, we have had it. Time for action and time for Obama to do his job he was sworn into. Protect and Serve and that means even the smallest citizen.

“meaningful contributions”. That’s a laugh eh. They just dug their heels in further. Obstinate, stubborn, delusional. No one needs a personal arsenal. This is a sick fetish. These people are no different than hoarders, and hoarding is considered a mental illness. Add in paranoia, and that is a terrible combination.
Tax and regulate. We need revenue from the 300mil guns to pay for armed guards in schools, shopping malls, theatres, sporting events, hospitals, hotels, restaurants, government buildings, you name it. Be sure to arm all those union thugs, the firemen and the teachers as well.
And don’t forget all the mental health facilities that need to be built and staffed. Where’s the $$ coming from for that?
Conservatives don’t want big government and big spending…until to do.
lincoln's widow commented:

Here’s something for Hoft and all you socio-politcal ignorant lot to chew on this Christmas Season……..
While Clinton did ask for funds to support qualified police guards at specific schools and targeted districts, it should be pointed out that this was not the only solution that his administration put forward and the police officers already in place at various schools worked in a much larger capacity than simply that of an armed centurian at the door.
Also, as part of the COPS program, the Clinton administration tackled issues within the school that adversely affected a childs safety. Lapierre and his apologists see a “one size fits all” approach that he himself claims doesn’t work – guns in the hands of a guard. period. that’s it. Interestingly enough, the NRA and Republicans roundly rejected Clinton’s COPS program, which included what they are now allegedly championing.
As an aside, Lapierre mentioned early on in his meandering sputterings at his “press-conference” ( read: gun-nut infommercial ) about how the Obama administration had cut funding for safe school programs that were already in place. And while this is only true if one considered how Republicans came together en masse to scrap such funding, what Lapierre didn’t mention ( and most certainly with full intent ) was that comparable funding ( roughly $249 million ) was set aside for safe school programs with proven track records.
One last fact that I’m sure will have all you wingnuts here in a tizzy……………junk-scientist John Lott is calling Lapierre’s proposal “costly” and “ineffective”.
do your research people.

Flashback: Clinton Requests $60 Million to Put Cops in Schools
[This is how the media works to silence and vilify the opposition and to
ensure that only their ideas control The Narrative. The media doesn't
care about securing our schools; they only care about coming after our
guns and handing Obama another political win.
The media also doesn’t care how wildly hypocritical they look.
In their zeal to rampage this left-wing agenda, the media has
apparently forgotten that back in 2000, on the one-year anniversary of
the Columbine shooting (which occurred with an assault weapons ban in
place), President Clinton requested $60 million in federal money to fund
a fifth round of funding for a program called "COPS in School," a program
that does exactly what the NRA is proposing and the media is currently
in overdrive mocking.]

Poll: More Americans Favor School School
Officials Having Guns Than Weapons Ban
airon-later #14 December 24, 2012 at 12:27 pm
first thing LaPierre offered was the following:
[“The NRA is going to bring all of its knowledge, dedication and
resources to develop a model National School Shield Emergency
Response Program for every school that wants it,” he said. “From
armed security to building design and access control to information
technology to student and teacher training, this multi-faceted
program will be developed by the very best experts in their fields.”]
The NRA Calls For Bigger Government To Protect School Children
[There it is! Simply get Congress to remove the “Gun Free Zones” and
start training teachers and principals. They obviously are prepared to
teach them, along with students. This would be at no additional cost
to taxpayers or the federal government and would not require the feds
to do anything except untie the hands of the people. In fact, it could
be argued, and is being argued, that States have the right to make this
a part of their system now.]
Gun Owners Of America’s Larry Pratt
[Pratt calmly and clearly educates the CNN anchorman by explaining that in those places in America, where law abiding citizens are allowed to own and carry concealed weapons for self-defense, the murder rate is ten times lower than in “Gun Free Europe.”]
so go spin your spun spin elsewhere..

Only ‘A Good Guy With A Gun’ Can Stop School Shootings, NRA Says
["The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy
with a gun," said Wayne LaPierre, NRA's executive vice president.
The NRA also said it is launching a "National School Shield" training
program to help - at no cost - schools train security personnel and
develop security plans.
And, NRA officials blamed the news media for focusing on what they view
as the wrong issue — guns — rather than violent video games and the
nation's mental health care programs.
The event was briefly interrupted twice by individuals who stood up
with banners and shouted that the NRA has "blood on its hands" and
is "killing our kids."]
