On Sunday, liberal New York newspaper The Journal News published the names and addresses of legal permit holders in two counties online and in print.

The Journal News announced on Friday that it will publish more names and addresses of residents holding pistol permits in the New York area.
Reuters reported:

A suburban New York newspaper that sparked an uproar among gun enthusiasts by publishing names and addresses of residents holding pistol permits is now planning to publish even more identities of permit-toting locals.

Further names and addresses will be added as they become available to a map originally published on December 24 in the White Plains, New York-based Journal News, the newspaper said.

The original map listed thousands of pistol permit holders in suburban Westchester and Rockland counties just north of New York City.

Along with an article entitled “The gun owner next door: What you don’t know about the weapons in your neighborhood,” the map was compiled in response to the December 14 shooting deaths of 26 children and adults in Newtown, Connecticut, editors of the Gannett Corp.-owned newspaper said.

The next batch of names will be permit holders in suburban Putnam County, New York, where the county clerk told the newspaper it is still compiling information.

Some 44,000 people are licensed to own pistols in the three counties, the newspaper said. Owners of rifles and shotguns do not need permits, the newspaper said.

The publication prompted outrage, particularly on social media sites, among gun owners.

“Do you fools realize that you also made a map for criminals to use to find homes to rob that have no guns in them to protect themselves?” Rob Seubert of Silver Spring, Maryland, posted on the newspaper’s web site. “What a bunch of liberal boobs you all are.”

Republican state Senator Greg Ball of Patterson, New York, said he planned to introduce legislation to keep permit information private except to prosecutors and police.

  1. Public Enemy Number 1. The news media.

  2. So, trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again.

  3. Start publishing information about these journalists…their address, pictures of their homes, places they frequent, cars they drive, etc.

They want a war? They picked the wrong group to F with.

  4. “Do you fools realize that you also made a map for criminals to use to find homes to rob that have no guns in them to protect themselves?” Rob Seubert of Silver Spring, Maryland, posted on the newspaper’s web site. “What a bunch of liberal boobs you all are.”

As someone already commented above – this is also a danger to the legal gun-owners as these are households criminals may target for break-ins in order to steal their guns, then take the stolen and go out and do crimes with them.

It is too bad there is no way to sue the newspaper for putting this sort of information into criminal hands.

  5. I agree with Truth Teller and others…expose these ba$tard$.

  6. I’ve not seen this mentions by anyone else, so I’m putting it here: zoom out the map on the original newspaper story listing the names and addresses. It isn’t just those counties. It lists people in other states and in Canada, if you zoom out far enough. There’s someone in TX, and CA, and elsewhere.

  7. Regarding ‘privacy concerns’ . . .the LoHud website (paper archive list) http://tinyurl.com/d6mc5ub reveals the very same ‘CynDee Royle’ reported that “The Journal News sues White Plains over Bradley ethics report “.

A ‘document summary’ of that report states:

“The board cited privacy concerns and said its report was an internal document not subject to state Freedom of Information Law and that releasing it would violate the City Charter. “

So The Journal News understands ‘privacy concerns’ exist, but only in certain contexts, eh?

  8. Now they need to superimpose the 5 red dots of the urinalist News addresses reporting this.

  9. “‘All the while, and with their fingers testing the winds, those same politicos are deftly side-stepping the fact that those cretins with pernicious intent will handily acquire guns elsewhere, or commit their menacing acts with a baseball bat or a lawnmower blade if necessary.’”

If Lanza’s mother had been a baseball enthusiast instead of a gun nut the body count would have been lower by an order pf magnitude. Pretending you can cause as much carnage with a bat that you can with an AR15 is simply asinine.

But fine, since you insist a bat is just as deadly, then all you need for your personal defense is a louisville slugger. Problem sloved

  10. But fine, since you insist a bat is just as deadly, then all you need for your personal defense is a louisville slugger. Problem sloved – tlaloc

The point is, a$$hole, is that if somebody wants to commit murder and mayhem, they will use whatever weapon is available.

Self-defense has nothing to do with it, douche.

  11. #26, those flags in California and Texas reveal Westchester, NY addresses – appear to reveal that the registered hand gun owner has multiple addresses. Again, The Journal News appears to be unfamiliar with the law of unintended consquequences. Some lessons must be learned the hard way.

  12. #32–I found it very interesting to see additional homes or addresses in Ireland, the United Kingdom and…Eindhoven, Belgium. Former military/intelligence who have just had their locations pinged?

  13. If anything bad should befall anyone on their list, well, that’s a sacrifice The Journal News is willing to make. It’s for the greater good, don’t you know?

  14. #33 I don’t see those flags on the map now . . .the flags you saw noted for Ireland, the UK, Eindhoven and Belgium are no longer visible at the original link to the map. Did you screen cap the image? Do you have another link to illustrate those flags are currently posted?

  15. #35 – Look under the third, PURPLE (Historic), map–that’s where I found them. They were there as of 7:23 PM 29 December.

  16. Tlaloc,

A 70 year old woman can use a gun JUST as effectively as a 20 year old male. The same can’t be said about a baseball bat. Or, old ladies don’t have the right to adequately defend themselves?

  17. Kindly provide a link for the “third, PURPLE (Historic), map–”, Armitage -thx

  18. #38–

    http://www.lohud.com/interactive/article/20121223/NEWS01/121221011/Map-Where-gun-permits-your-neighborhood-

The article has three maps. The third one has the color purple for each location. That’s the one that includes the European addresses for permit holders. The URL there is to the interactive online map the newspaper published.

  19. Bloggers looked up and published the names and addresses of the wusses that exposed the gun owners. Go one step further and publish the names and addresses of the newspaper’s board of directors. That ought to get their attention!
