New York Paper Announces It Will Post More Names and Addresses of Legal Gun Permit Holders

On Sunday, liberal New York newspaper The Journal News published the names and addresses of legal permit holders in two counties online and in print.

The Journal News announced on Friday that it will publish more names and addresses of residents holding pistol permits in the New York area.
Reuters reported:

A suburban New York newspaper that sparked an uproar among gun enthusiasts by publishing names and addresses of residents holding pistol permits is now planning to publish even more identities of permit-toting locals.

Further names and addresses will be added as they become available to a map originally published on December 24 in the White Plains, New York-based Journal News, the newspaper said.

The original map listed thousands of pistol permit holders in suburban Westchester and Rockland counties just north of New York City.

Along with an article entitled “The gun owner next door: What you don’t know about the weapons in your neighborhood,” the map was compiled in response to the December 14 shooting deaths of 26 children and adults in Newtown, Connecticut, editors of the Gannett Corp.-owned newspaper said.

The next batch of names will be permit holders in suburban Putnam County, New York, where the county clerk told the newspaper it is still compiling information.

Some 44,000 people are licensed to own pistols in the three counties, the newspaper said. Owners of rifles and shotguns do not need permits, the newspaper said.

The publication prompted outrage, particularly on social media sites, among gun owners.

“Do you fools realize that you also made a map for criminals to use to find homes to rob that have no guns in them to protect themselves?” Rob Seubert of Silver Spring, Maryland, posted on the newspaper’s web site. “What a bunch of liberal boobs you all are.”

Republican state Senator Greg Ball of Patterson, New York, said he planned to introduce legislation to keep permit information private except to prosecutors and police.

We are again being pitted neighbor against neighbor. This is intentional and has been from the beginning.

“God made man but Sam Colt made them equal.” From American Thinker…excerpted

“In the concrete jungles of our urban cities or in our seemingly tranquil suburbias with their flaccid social disintegration, many Progressive-minded levels of government have made the considered decision that in lieu of a debauched and malicious portion of its citizenry, it is far better to effectively disarm their constituent fiefdoms in order to show them that superficially they have their best interests at heart. All the while, and with their fingers testing the winds, those same politicos are deftly side-stepping the fact that those cretins with pernicious intent will handily acquire guns elsewhere, or commit their menacing acts with a baseball bat or a lawnmower blade if necessary.”

  • Can’t one of those, whom have been ‘outed’ sue the paper for breech of privacy or harassment or something?

Seems to me those who don’t own guns might want to get them as thieves have now been told who to target. I can’t wait till the first person harmed finds out that the criminals used this data and wants to thank that paper with a lawsuit

Okay, then up the ante: Publish lots more personal information about the publisher and reporters.

The time is well past for Gun owners to retake our Country from the Marxist Hippies that have usurped Individual freedoms in America.

    Starting with this “propaganda agency”.

The “UnCivil War of 2013” is beginning soon.

I had been meaning to submit to DARPA an anti-terorism plan that would involve a web-based dead pool gambling site (places have had celebrity dead pools for years) – individuals world-wide could place bets on date and time of death of wanted terrorists, when subject terrorists buy the farm the individual who placed the winning bet would collect anonymously. The wink-wink part is that those placing bets could put their thumbs on the scales if it would favor their bet.

    Whoops, wrong thread…

We are seeing more legal gun owners deciding NOT to get concealed carry permits now that the liberal scum and the press want to know who each permit holder is and where they live. This can be a huge problem for these legal gun owners.
Either you will have police/ATF targeting those legal gun owners or the neighbors will be concerned this person is some wacky gun nut. And the other side is the thugs who will know this person has guns to steal.
Run silent, run deep my friends.

Perhaps the NRA should publish the names and addresses of these so called journalists. . .

In the mean time as a legal gun owner, putting up a sign on my property entrance. .

how many liberal gun owners were “outed”? I’m quite sure many of these permit holders are obama voters too.

The employees of this newspaper should prepare for full investigations, where their children go to school, what doctors and what type they go to, what cars they own and their license plate numbers, where they go to church, you get the idea.

Fascist Liberal Collectivists throwing a temper tantrum. These “journalists” are a danger to society. This paper needs to be shut down before someone gets killed because of their infantile nonsense.

Start publishing information about these journalists…their address, pictures of their homes, places they frequent, cars they drive, etc.

They want a war? They picked the wrong group to F with.

As someone already commented above – this is also a danger to the legal gun-owners as these are households criminals may target for break-ins in order to steal their guns, then take the stolen and go out and do crimes with them.

It is too bad there is no way to sue the newspaper for putting this sort of information into criminal hands.

  • Meh

I agree with Truth Teller and others…expose these ba$tard$.

  • Armitage

I’ve not seen this mentions by anyone else, so I’m putting it here: zoom out the map on the original newspaper story listing the names and addresses. It isn’t just those counties. It lists people in other states and in Canada, if you zoom out far enough. There’s someone in TX, and CA, and elsewhere.

Regarding ‘privacy concerns’ . . .the LoHud website (paper archive list) http://tinyurl.com/d6mc5ub reveals the very same ‘CynDee Royle’ reported that “The Journal News sues White Plains over Bradley ethics report “.

A ‘document summary’ of that report states:

“The board cited privacy concerns and said its report was an internal document not subject to state Freedom of Information Law and that releasing it would violate the City Charter. “

So The Journal News understands ‘privacy concerns’ exist, but only in certain contexts, eh?

Now they need to superimpose the 5 red dots of the urinalist News addresses reporting this.

If Lanza’s mother had been a baseball enthusiast instead of a gun nut the body count would have been lower by an order pf magnitude. Pretending you can cause as much carnage with a bat that you can with an AR15 is simply asinine.

But fine, since you insist a bat is just as deadly, then all you need for your personal defense is a louisville slugger. Problem sloved

The point is, a$$hole, is that if somebody wants to commit murder and mayhem, they will use whatever weapon is available.

Self-defense has nothing to do with it, douche.

#26, those flags in California and Texas reveal Westchester, NY addresses – appear to reveal that the registered hand gun owner has multiple addresses. Again, The Journal News appears to be unfamiliar with the law of unintended consquequences. Some lessons must be learned the hard way.

  • Armitage

#32–I found it very interesting to see additional homes or addresses in Ireland, the United Kingdom and…Eindhoven, Belgium. Former military/intelligence who have just had their locations pinged?

  • Servo1969

If anything bad should befall anyone on their list, well, that’s a sacrifice The Journal News is willing to make. It’s for the greater good, don’t you know?

  • wtd

#33 I don’t see those flags on the map now . . .the flags you saw noted for Ireland, the UK, Eindhoven and Belgium are no longer visible at the original link to the map. Did you screen cap the image? Do you have another link to illustrate those flags are currently posted?

#35 – Look under the third, PURPLE (Historic), map–that’s where I found them. They were there as of 7:23 PM 29 December.

    Tlaloc,

A 70 year old woman can use a gun JUST as effectively as a 20 year old male. The same can’t be said about a baseball bat. Or, old ladies don’t have the right to adequately defend themselves?

  • wtd

Kindly provide a link for the “third, PURPLE (Historic), map–”, Armitage -thx

The article has three maps. The third one has the color purple for each location. That’s the one that includes the European addresses for permit holders. The URL there is to the interactive online map the newspaper published.

  • bad actor

Bloggers looked up and published the names and addresses of the wusses that exposed the gun owners. Go one step further and publish the names and addresses of the newspaper’s board of directors. That ought to get their attention!

  • Brad

the addresses of the persons in charge at the Journal News should be published, if not done already, including phone numbers. Those people engaged in a legal thing and I think at least those homes will not be burgularized/crime victims, not sure about the others. Maybe add the Gammett management too, where that too would be public information, and those people responsible for publishing the information to at least have more ….empathy for what its like to be doing something legal and penalized for it

  • dwdude

follow the lead of 60’s radicals bill ayers and bernardine dohrn, burn the paper down…they’re living the life of luxury, you could too.

  • Louie3rd

The tax payer pays the bills of those receiving government checks. When I pay my employees I know where they live. I want to see a list of names and addresses of those receiving government checks ( not including military, SS and medicare, they have paid into the system). Lets publish that list so that the neighbors can see if there is fraud in these government checks. If they do not want their name published on that list then take what ever steps it takes to get off the list. The protected dependent class is a cancer on America.

  • Rick

On the same map, has the crime rate been effected positively or negatively?

  • Rick

Relax legal gun owners. Now the criminals know where not to go, thus saving you the cost of yard signs pointing to liberal neighbors without guns.

    http://weaselzippers.us/2012/12/31/advertisers-of-new-york-newspaper-face-boycott-over-papers-decision-to-publish-names-and-addresses-of-legal-gun-owners/
The New York State Rifle & Pistol Association is calling for a nationwide boycott of the advertisers of the suburban New York newspaper that published online maps revealing names and addresses of people with pistol permits.
The association on Monday announced it was urging people to stop patronizing any business who advertises with Gannett — the White Plains-based Journal News’ parent company — until the map is removed. On Dec. 22, the Journal News published interactive maps showing the pistol permit holders in the state’s Westchester and Rockland counties. The decision sparked an uproar among conservatives and gun rights advocates, but the paper says it will continue adding names to the map.
The group is encouraging “concerned citizens” to contact national and local advertisers who use the Journal News — including Best Buy, CVS, IKEA and Target, among others — and tell them to stop running ads until the list of lower Hudson Valley pistol license holders is off the web.
