Harry Reid on Fiscal Cliff: “We Are Not Going to Do Anything”

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) told reporters today, “We are not going to to anything,” in regards to the fiscal cliff. The House is expected to pass a bill later today.
The Weekly Standard reported:

Senate majority leader Harry Reid, a Democrat, made his “fiscal cliff” position clear in a press conference today. “We are not going to do anything,” said Reid.

Reid added, “We are not taking up anything they are working on over there.”

The top Democrat in the Senate was explaining his inaction on the House plan, the proposal put forward by Republican John Boehner, the speaker of the House of Representatives. Boehner’s plan is being referred to as ‘Plan B.’

“Boehner described his Plan B as a fallback option to prevent a sweeping tax hike when tax cuts from the administration of President George W. Bush expire at the end of the year. Sources said the Boehner measure also would include extending the current estate tax and alternative minimum tax, two steps sought by Republicans,” reports CNN.

The ‘Plan B’ option tracks closely to a proposal put forward by Democrats earlier this year.

But now Reid won’t even allow the Senate to vote on Boehner’s proposal.

    Not a problem.

Let the country get a taste of what it voted for.

But yet, the Republicans will be blamed for what Harry Reid does or does not do.

    Fine. Whatever.

Agreed. Time for conservatives to play hardball as well. We just need to scream from the rooftops that GOP offered and voted on a plan, and the DNC/Obama/marxist cabal simply refused to have a vote on the proposals.

No more pulling punches. Marxists need to be held accountable. We cannot allow these empty headed leftards to dominate the airwaves and discussions. We must boldly announce that the EMPORER HAS NO CLOTHES!

Let the masses who voted for marxism and corruption squirm under the effects.

Critically thinking on that question, I say the sudden stop is not going to be bad at all considering we are 3′ from the bottom now.

  • Granny

This is hardly unexpected. The Dems are going to get their tax raise on everyone come hell or high water. Of course there is still the little problem with the House having to authorize any hike in the national debt.

  • cavt

This guy is worthless. What do these people do on any given workday–attend meaningless meetings and give pointless speeches to 4 people in attendance and 10 watching on CSPAN. Won’t vote on this, no budget—- Why are we paying these people?

  • Sam Stone

And I for one finally must recommend to all Americans, we stray from the usual selection of presidential candidates, look to what we all look at anyway, well at least 30% of us, look to the models of “Bad Idea T-Shirts”!

Any would do. If I am going to be screwd by our President, I would rather think it is a “Bad Idea T-Shirts” than an Obama or Hillary Clinton.

Petition the White House for “Bad Idea T-Shirts” For President. A 3 year primary with those sound bites and short news stories would for once be worth watching.

  • Sam Stone

Can anyone answer this question? Since when did our most important (so they tell us) financial and future tax and revenue issues boil down to ONLY TWO INDIVIDUALS?
Boner and Obama with some GOP and DEMOCRAT underlings saying what they will accept to vote on?

What ever happened to the OTHER 534 elected legislooters? Did this last election dismiss 534 other elected officials?

What happened to the conference committees where a House bill and a Senate bill were combined and put on the floor?

PUT THE BILLS ON THE FLOOR BOTH HOUSES!

Since at least the historic election of 2010 when the Swamp Queen was landed with the TP Hook, the old two house and executive administration of government has been unceremoniously done away with.

Let government work Harry and Boner.

  • Indiana

Dems blaming Boehner….Republicans blaming Obama….when is Harry Reid going to be held accountable? I’m calling both of my Senators (democrats) and tell them that “dirty Harry” is going to be the end of them….if our taxes go up. Hey Baucus and Tester…..can you hear me now? Just because Harry won’t let you vote….doesn’t mean you’re off the hook.

  • http://teachx3sblog.wordpress.com/ TeachX3

“Since when did our most important (so they tell us) financial and future tax and revenue issues boil down to ONLY TWO INDIVIDUALS?” … my question EXACTLY! You know how they drip, drip, drip and eventually, whatever it is, just becomes the ‘norm’? Yea.

    @12 Sam Stone –

You are correct when you say that our tax and financial future is dependent on just two individuals. You are, however, incorrect in who those two individuals are. The second person in the equation is Harry Reid, not Boehner. Obama and Reid – “our way or no way at all.”

Neither are interested in negotiating or reaching an agreement that most can agree on. They WILL have their way or else.

The Republicans need to be as extreme right as the left is extreme left. Its about damned time.

  • Blacque Jacques Shellacque

The Republicans need to be as extreme right as the left is extreme left.

I would characterize it as more that the Republicans need to fight for their principles as doggedly as the Democrats fight for theirs. The problem is that for today’s Republican Party, instead of battle it’s always compromise. Republican principles – what little they do have – are seen as things to be compromised away, typically receiving little or nothing from the opposition in return.

This is what you voted for America. . .let the country go over the cliff and deal with you all you “low-information morons” who idolize Barack Hussein Obama, hmm, hmm, hmm!

  • paul52

Dingy Harry has FAR too much power. Much more than Barry legislatively. The ‘cliff’ ain’t the end of the world. At least some spending cuts would kick in. Barry and the Dims will own the biggest tax hike in US history. Let that be their legacy.

  • Stella Baskomb

“Reid added, “We are not taking up anything they are working on over there.”

Harry Reid: chief spokesman for the Party of NO.

Harry Reid: leader of the House of NO = the Democrat-controlled Senate.

And so Democrats take accountability for tax increases on everyone.

Isn’t it ironic that the “Bush tax reductions for the rich” Obama has been complaining about can only be undone by tax increases on EVERYONE?

Well, that’s what America voted for. It’s what the Democrat Party of NO will now deliver.

    Happy New Year, America.

Better to happen now and let Obama take the heat. We have 2 years till the next elections. It will fall on dummycrats. and good politicians can state that and demonstrate it in the mid terms.

4 years from now unless we put up a moron the economy will still suck dems still wont have passed a budget and Obama wont be on ticket. So no black person to be voted in on his skin color will drop off the turnout from deadbeats and losers.

Hillary looks like a trainwreck now and will look dead in 4 years and Benghazi will hurt her.

ht West Virginia Takes A Stand

FEMA CONCENTRATION CAMPS: Locations and Executive Orders

[There over 800 prison camps in the United States, all fully operational and ready to receive prisoners. They are all staffed and even surrounded by full-time guards, but they are all empty. These camps are to be operated by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) should Martial Law need to be implemented in the United States and all it would take is a presidential signature on a proclamation and the attorney general’s signature on a warrant to which a list of names is attached. Ask yourself if you really want to be on Ashcroft’s list.

The Rex 84 Program was established on the reasoning that if a “mass exodus” of illegal aliens crossed the Mexican/US border, they would be quickly rounded up and detained in detention centers by FEMA. Rex 84 allowed many military bases to be closed down and to be turned into prisons.

Operation Cable Splicer and Garden Plot are the two sub programs which will be implemented once the Rex 84 program is initiated for its proper purpose. Garden Plot is the program to control the population. Cable Splicer is the program for an orderly takeover of the state and local governments by the federal government. FEMA is the executive arm of the coming police state and thus will head up all operations. The Presidential Executive Orders already listed on the Federal Register also are part of the legal framework for this operation.

The camps all have railroad facilities as well as roads leading to and from the detention facilities. Many also have an airport nearby. The majority of the camps can house a population of 20,000 prisoners. Currently, the largest of these facilities is just outside of Fairbanks, Alaska. The Alaskan facility is a massive mental health facility and can hold approximately 2 million people.]

haven’t checked it all out as yet,
    there’s oodles of info available..

Reid is an utterly despicable individual with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. I do not think there has been anyone so intellectually dishonest as he has been as Senate leader.

    A true moral leper.

  • Conservative Women Need To Speak Louder

@ #42 shadow-“no budget, obama can spend all he wants. Do you really believe that? Obama can only spend that which is approved in appropriation bills. The budget is merely a guidline that sets priorities. There are no real dollars attached.”

“The budget is merely a guidline…There are no real dollars attached.” Seriously? The budget is merely a guideline and no real dollars attached?! Let me clue you in. In the REAL world, companies use budgets with REAL dollars attached in order to achieve their goals and remain a going concern (i.e. continue in business & not go bankrupt). It is required by law for Congress to balance the budget; yet, the Senate still refuses to abide by the law. I guess you assume laws are just “guidelines” as well.

It is really getting frustrating being a sane, reasonably intelligent person having to live in this upside down world with insane, unreasonably moranic libturds who have absolutely NO clue how the REAL world actually works.

    Let. It. Burn.

Have any of you people even looked at the budget proposed by the White House? Boehner is the one without a plan. He just keeps refusing to agree to anything the president proposes and is determined to keep taxes low on the top 3 percent, while letting the tax breaks lapse on middle and lower incomes. As well as making drastic cuts to social security (which has nothing to do with the budget or the deficit, but which they have been stealing from for years) food stamps, Medicaid, affordable housing. This will leave old people, children, the disabled literally out in the cold. THAT is PLAN B. Have fun…
