Bill O’Reilly Threatens US Boycott of Mexico If Jailed US Marine Not Released By Christmas (Video)

Jon Hammar, a former Marine held in Mexico on gun charges, has been in a Mexican prison for four months on what is being called a trumped-up federal weapon charge. He was arrested Aug. 13 in Matamoros after he declared to Mexican customs agents a shotgun he planned to use for hunting in Costa Rica. He’s been held in jail since August and chained to a bed.

Jon Hammar survived wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is now up in a prison in Mexico. (CBS)

TODAY – FOX News host Bill O’Reilly told America’s Newsroom that if US Marine is not released from jail in Mexico by Christmas he is going to organize a national boycott of Mexico.

Clinton could fix this with a phone call, but then she would support the us military.

  • Granny

I want to know what is happening to the US Border Patrol agent who told the young man that it was perfectly OK to take that shotgun into Mexico and to just declare it at the border. It would seem to me that the BP agent is the person directly responsible.

  • Kate

Obama is a worthless POS. Hates the military and doesn’t care about American lives. Watches them die and does nothing. Thanks, Bill. You get it right sometimes. Hit it where it hurts. Money. Sadly, in a few more years, they will all be living in the US illegally.

  • Chris Light

Why not start the Boycott now? A Boycott would take a little time to effect a country that is not producing that much anyway. How about organizing large scale rallies outside of Hillary’s house and the White House? They are the ones who could snap their fingers and get something done. This is ridiculous.

  • airon-later

There has to be much more to this story ( and I have to agree with #2 about the border agent ) other than what we are hearing on Fox”News”. In terms of O’Reilly calling for a boycott, that’s pure posturing on his part that means nothing. After all, I recall how well his boycott of France went a few years ago. He’s doing nothing but exploiting this story for his own personal gain and his viewership is more than willing to go along with it.

From what Ive read, Jon Hammar was told a couple of times what he had to do to legally transport the weapon through the country. He supposedly asked American Border personnel and Mexican Border Personnel. He followed the guidelines and was arrested after entering the Dirty-Sorry-ass, Corrupt Country of Mexico anyway. They saw an opportunity for money and got him. This happens far too often.

  • Big Al

When do you ever take a stand on anything !!!!

  • Conservative Ken

If “The One” can kill Bin Laden, he surely can break a Citizen out of a Mexican prison.

  • Ella

A national boycott is good, but even better would be a constant ridiculing and mocking of that punk in the White House.

  • BuddyG

Good for Bill O’Reilly for bringing attention to this story.

Let’s all hope that Jon Hammar is home for Christmas.

Ex-ATF official’s gun ends up at Mexican cartel shootout that killed beauty queen

    By William La Jeunesse

    Published December 19, 2012

How did a gun belonging to a former assistant special agent in charge at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives end up at a crime scene in Mexico where five died, including a Mexican beauty queen?

That’s the question being asked by congressional investigators and ATF officials in Phoenix.

A FN Five-Seven semi-automatic pistol, a high powered handgun originally
restricted to military and law enforcement customers, was recovered by Mexican police at the scene of a Nov. 23 shootout between the Sinaloa Cartel and the Mexican military.

Records show the gun was purchased in January 2010 by George Gillett, the former No. 2 in the ATF office in Phoenix. Gillett now works at ATF headquarters in Washington as a liaison to the federal Bureau of Prisons.

Gillett purchased the weapon at Legendary Arms, a Phoenix gun store. On the federal form 4473 used to buy the gun, Gillett used the ATF office address, 201 East Washington, and said “Apt 940.” On subsequent purchase, Gillett used a commercial address, that of a strip mall.

Both actions are illegal, since ATF regulations require buyers use their residential address.

“Lying on form 4473 is a felony and can be punished by up to five years in prison in addition to fines,” Sen. Charles Grassley said in a letter Wednesday to Michael Horowitz in the Office of Inspector General. “I request that you initiate an investigation into these matters and that you specifically examine whether Mr. Gillett was the purchaser as indicated by these documents, why the forms list multiple, inaccurate residential addresses while purchasing the weapons, and how the weapon purchased on January 7, 2010 ended up in Mexico.”

#8 I have, and continue to, take a stand on many issues. However, unlike many here – including Jim Hoft – I am not a reactionary, knee jerk, person that waves a particular story around like it’s the truth just because a particular news agency makes it a “breaking story”. It’s called research, perhaps people here should look into it.

The US border guards don’t go over to Mexico they told me. I was in trouble with them because I was in the Big truck line instead of passenger car line. The roads are very confusing and there are no signs on the Mexican side. The US guads told me if I make the mistke again they are taking my truck and impounding it.
so I said which road is it.He said we don’t go over to mexico ever as they wantto kill us.And the other Border guard said they want to kill our dogs too.
The point is that one can’t rely on what the US Border guards say becaue they really don’t know. The rules change all the time. It Might have been good faith that this man could clear the gun. But over-all the Mexicans do not want guns in Mexico and the signs on many roads from USA to Mexico announce that.
there is no excuses, no exceptions.
One man, had a target pistol in the trunk, returned to him by a friend one day and he forgot. He was jailed at 75yrs old. He was not a threat. It took two local San Diego Congressmen to get him out. I think one was Brian Bilbray. The family might call his office. He is no longer a congressman iirc but he might have contacts still.
No guns, no matter if it is grandpas or a non firing antique. NO guns in Mexico. No ammo either. Don’t fool with the auithorities there, it is not the USA. They mean business.

I wish this soldier good luck, but thank God he is in Mexico, not a third world judicial hellhole like USA, where people, especially patriots, are being framed, by the Demogangsters, while criminals like Bill Clinton round around free.

Tom Delay: Framed, for winning elections. Unable to beat him at the polls, the Demogangsters framed him.

Senator Ted Stevens: Framed, for winning elections, by Demogangsters.

Republican Governor of Kentucky framed. How dare a Republican win in our Kentucky the Democratic gutter? So the Demogangsters framed him.

Conservative talk show host, framed for speaking his mind.

Meacham–framed by Demogangsters for refusing to give Martin Luther King holiday.

The World needs to boycott USA!

  • This poor guy has everything against him he is white and in the military Obie hates white and Hilldabeast hates military, it’s high time to send a team in to free this guy and shoot every Mexican on the way out…
O/T…Lot of people saying the world is going to end tomorrow, but I tell them that’s not true the world ended with the Presidential election in 2008, at least for the United States….

  • bigL

also in mexico, the justice system is Napoleonic Code. That means you are guilty until proven innocent. That is why Hammer is in jail. It might be 3 yrs to a tria. Might get off but 3 yrs and can he prove his innocence.
Itwouldbe better if the US govt would pull some strings for him.

WHEN he is set free you can count on a payment was maid and everyone will say it was the good will of mexico.

The Mexicans want to play games with Americans. I knew a salesman who went into Mexico on business visit. They stopped him at the border and had him open his trunk. There they found .22 bullets he had left there. Just bullets, no gun. His company got him out of jail after 2 weeks and the use of a Mexican lawyer (and some money).

Simple. Ban all wire transfers of money to Mexico until he is released.

    That should stunt their economy

  • burt

Matamoros, not a good place to be. I can’t remember if it was the son of the Mayor or the Chief of Police. Anyway he liked the pickup truck one of the American in town was driving. The police stopped his truck and impounded it. He tried, and tried to get his truck back, but no luck. He finally gave up and reported it to his insurance co

I have been boycotting Mexico for years. I use to enjoy some of the Mexican resort areas, but with the way Mexico treats the US is why I do not go there. Also the crime and corruption is a red flag for any American to stay out of Mexico.
My daughter was considering Mexico for spring break until I educated her about Mexican laws.

  • This regime could have him release at any time ,but refuse to do so….we give Mexico millions on tax-payer dollars each year, this regime could choose to with hold those dollars if they wanted too……..

  • Nicky

We have cancelled our college reunion trip to Mexico. All 20 of us will not go to Mexico until our Marine is released.

  • Blacque Jacques Shellacque

…if US Marine is not released from jail in Mexico by Christmas he is going to organize a national boycott of Mexico.

    Good luck on that.

  • Multitude

I propose an exchange: We’ll give the Mexicans a real gun-pushing criminal who is directly responsible for hundreds of innocent Mexican deaths because of his dumping illegal guns to narco-terrorists.

We’ll give them Eric Holder in exchange for releasing Hammar.

  • NoResolution

Half of Mexico is in the US so boycotting Mexico won’t do any good.

#18: Excellent point. In Mexico, you are guilty until proven innocent. Puts a whole different light on what happens if someone gets in trouble. This is enough danger, but the bribery, corruption are everywhere, too. I lived and worked in Mexico for a year, and I have stories to tell. Just be careful . . . very careful!

  • frances quinn

i will start boycotting mexico now, they do things like this all the time for money. overcharge you when you stay there, accuse you of breaking things like the door, etc. all to extort money. bring this guy home….boycott beginning today.

  • Buffalobob

I have said this numerous time on several blogs. You don’t go into Mexico with a gun or a single bullet. You wouldn’t go to NYC with a gun and ask the local police department for permit. You wouldn’t go into an airport with a gun and ask the TS screeners for a permit.
If you don’t know the meaning of “La Modtia” the little bite, don’t enter Mexico. My sympathy to his parents. However he is the one who broke the law, never mind the story that he was given bad information, he is responsible for his actions. Check out the requirements for taking a firearm into Canada. They are complicated and confusing.

  • affenhauer

Maybe we can swap Eric Holder for Jon Hammar…

  • affenhauer

#29: damn. Didn’t notice that comments went to a second page. You win.

  • cc

Bigkahuna: I love your stopping transfers of money to Mexico!! We could solve our debt crisis also.

  • Richard Aubrey

Offer to swap Eric Holder, one for one.

  • Muddywood

I have a friend that had a box of 12 gauge bird shot in his trunk. They arrested him for being an arms smuggler and put him in jail. It took another friend who had an uncle that was a judge in Mexico to find him and get him out 5 days later and thousands of dollars lighter.

Lol yeah, boycott Mexico, stop eating at taco bell! LOL. By the way, in the military, not knowing a law is not an excuse. The same is for every US citizen and any other person in the world. I did not get offended by this since he was better off at jail and he is still alive. You all with your anti-Mexican comments just make me crack my butt off really.
