Poverty Nation: More People on Food Stamps than Population of 24 States

It’s an Obama world…
And a Food Stamp Nation

More Americans are on food stamps than the population of 24 states – or about 47% of the country.

Obama promised to remake the country… and he’s doing just that.
Wynton Hall at Breitbart reported:

An analysis by Breitbart News has found that the number of individuals on food stamps now exceeds the combined populations of 24 states and the District of Columbia.

In November, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reported that a record 47,102,780 individuals receive food stamps.

According to US. Census Bureau data, that figure exceeds the combined populations of: Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

Since January 2009, the number of individuals on food stamps has skyrocketed from 31.9 million to the current record high 47.1 million. By comparison, in 1969 just 2.8 million Americans received food stamps.

Also benefiting from the rapid rise in food stamps are companies like JP Morgan who administer Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards. A recent report by the Government Accountability Institute found that since 2004, JP Morgan’s 24 state EBT contracts have totaled at least $560,492,596.02.

Last year, the food stamp program (officially known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP) cost taxpayers $72 billion, more than double the $30 billion spent four years ago.

I often wonder, how many people have a geniune need for food stamp help, and how many just get it, then sell their balances. I am getting sick and tired of walking into food stores and someone outside saying, “I have 200 left on my EBT card (food stamp debit card) and I’ll sell you the $200 for $100 cash…..I’ll give you the pin, you shop, come out and pay me.” (Or something to that effect) — It makes me sick, and I don’t know how to report the fraud, as I would NEVER buy someone’s food monies for any amount less, and give them cash.

There are SO many people that TRULY do need “a hand up” in these hard times, until they can find work, but these pieces of shyte that are getting the “hand out” and abusing the system pizz me off, and it makes it bad for those just needing temporary help in time of need, and WANT TO FIND WORK and get off the help.

    “. . . or about 47% of the country. . . . ”

Isn’t saying the percentage “47%” considered racist code?

Votes purchased up about 50%, program cost up about 140%. Road to Serfdom paved and crowded with takers.

Al Sharpton is a racist and a Jew basher

[Equally inexplicable is how someone with Sharpton’s professed
abhorrence for racial insensitivity could have spent so many years
as a strong supporter of the late Khalid Abdul Muhammad, whose
vulgar diatribes against whites were too incendiary for even Louis
    Farrakhan to condone.]

not to mention Freddie’s Fashion Mart or Tawana Brawley.. 🙁

and surely we understand it’s “not just Al” down in the gutter
screeching this racist rhetoric, as it clearly echoes right on up
    the racist Black Panthers/Farrakhan/Pfleger/Meeks/etc ladder
to the Oval Office, where, albeit sometimes subtly, it bounces
off the “groomed to be a unifier” Green Presidents lips every
    so often..

    oops!! re: #12 & #13

so sorry, thought i had posted them
in the Sharpton thread below.. 😀

  • Romney was Right

In other words, for the 100th time, Romney was RIGHT that he never would have got the votes of about 47%. Elaboration/clarification was still due, but the on core message-he was right.

  • DWagner

I also know many people who pay debts with food stamps it has become a method of barter.
It has become the great fraud of our time but you’ll not hear it coming from the mainstream Media. The Media is more out of touch than they claim Romney was!

  • SoLongSong

Romney WAS right. Obama even ENCOURAGES fraud. Anything to get us over the cliff that much faster! Must make things even worldwide, after all.

Soon the Chinese will be saying, “Finish your dinner! There ared starving people in America that would LOVE to have that!”

  • The goal–get everyone impoverished and on food stamps, and have companies and rich fat cats pay for it. Of course, they will be impoverished and on food stamps as well, which means that full equality will finally be achieved and America will have become a better place as everyone starves together. A large picture of Obama will be hung on the facade of the White House, and a reviewing stand built so that he can wave to the millions of people gathered for the yearly May Day parades at 1600 Penn. Ave, waving their little red flags. Pure bliss.

Good to know it is still 50 cents to the dollar on food stamps like it was twenty years ago with the script.

“The average college kid idealistically wishes everybody could have ice cream and cake for every meal. But as he gets older and gives more thought to his and his fellow man’s responsibilities, he finds that it can’t work out that way — that some people just won’t carry their load … I believe in welfare — a welfare work program. I don’t think a fella should be able to sit on his backside and receive welfare. I’d like to know why well-educated idiots keep apologizing for lazy and complaining people who think the world owes them a living.”

    John Wayne,from a Playboy magazine interview 1971.

  • Seventy-two billion dollars, much if not most of it paid by Republican voters, seems like a real bargain price to pay for cementing progressive control of the US government. Well done, Democrats!

I’m trying to figure out how 47.1 million people in a country of 310 million people is 47% of the country, more like 15%. So I thought maybe in his haste to sound the alarm he was referring to the 24 states that have a total population that about equals the 47.1 million on food stamps, but that comes to 48%, not 47% and besides what possible meaning does that have? In reality the bulk of those on food stamps live in the highest populated states of NY, IL, CA, and FL.

Maybe it’s just me, but I think Gateway Pundit tries just a little too hard to instill gloom. The facts are gloomy enough without trying to put them in context that stretches all semblance of logic. Oddly enough the re-election of Obama will probably increase the number on food stamps as Obama feels justified in continuing his war on cheap energy, successful businesses (that don’t vote democrat) and the producing class in general.

Prediction: Obama will be known as a ‘one off’ to historians, a pied piper who combined cunning with a cult of personality to convince just enough young people, blacks, Asians, and Hispanics (and a large enough minority of those over 30) to get elected twice. Without him on any future ballot liberals will return to the wilderness, perhaps for a long time.

We are the Moron Nation now. Thanks leftie teachers. I read that 60% of the populatyion was born after the Shuttle Challenger blew up. That is 1986. So we have educated a bunch of morons…No Civics classes, No history before 1880 taught, no govt taught. In many school districts a low per cent even graduates.

The perception by citizens that they pay too much in taxes can lead to the sort of shameless opportunism that we’re seeing with food stamps. Many of these people are not truly in need, but they take the view that since they’ve paid taxes, they should get something back.

The number of food stamp recipients is not indicative of the state of the economy. Subprime has used easy eligibility requirements to buy votes with public money. It’s sad to see the number of Americans who can be bought.

These are in addition to our perpetual parasites, who have never paid taxes, didn’t bother getting an education, don’t even look for a job (except an illegal one like drug dealing), but have found a dozen or more ways to get government handouts.

  • Jeff

WOW apparently none of you understand how math works. This is some sad, sad stuff.

  • JDubya

“In November, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reported that a record 47,102,780 individuals receive food stamps”…

Your article says 47% of the country is on food stamps. If 47 million people are on food stamps, 47/310 = 15% of the country, not 47%.

You need to correct this before some left-tarded sight pulls this comment and starts campaigning that you are running a false report.

You do not need this type of crap.

  • BarbaraS

Your map evidently didn’t go far south enough. Remember the government has a deal with Mexico re food stamps and social security if the nation only knew it. I wrote them about illegals getting social security one time and got a form letter back telling me that the US has a deal with Mexico re social security.
