Florida officials ordered a partial recount of ballots in the 18th District’s race between Republican Allen West and Democrat Patrick Murphy.

Allen West led on election night but currently trails Murphy by 2,442 votes.
FOX News reported:

Election officials in St. Lucie County will recount early votes cast in the hotly contested race for Florida’s 18th district’s House seat between Tea Party favorite Rep. Allen West and his challenger, Democrat Patrick Murphy.

The St. Lucie County Canvassing Board announced late Saturday it had set an “emergency meeting” to start at 7 a.m. Sunday at its headquarters, to “recount all ballots cast during early voting.” The number of early ballots is estimated by officials to be roughly 37,000.

West, who has refused to concede the race, is currently trailing Murphy by 2,442 votes, according to the latest results from Florida Division of Elections. On its website, the agency says West has garnered 164,448 votes to Murphy’s 166,890.

“There are possible irregularities in St. Lucie County,” claims Jeffrey Scott Shapiro, a Florida lawyer volunteering for the West campaign who has been quoted on the issue. “On Sunday we’ll have a chance to recount the early votes and that’s a good start to preserving the integrity of the democratic process.”

West’s campaign said in a Saturday statement it was pleased with the news of the partial recount.

“This decision should help shed light on the situation of this election,” the statement said. “This is the action we were seeking to ensure the results of this election were fair and accurate.”

West’s campaign had said earlier Saturday that issues with the voting in St. Lucie County meant the race was still undecided.

“Late on Election Night, Congressman West led by 1,700 votes,” West for Congress said in a statement. “Following the St. Lucie County Supervisor of Elections’ decision to recount thousands of early ballots after a technical glitch, the margin shifted by 4,000. In order to ensure that votes were not doubled counted, we have requested that the St. Lucie Supervisor of Elections make public the poll check-in books to ensure the numbers of ballots cast matches the numbers of voters checked-in at the polls.”

  1. Holy sh**, how can you not demand a recount?
This is insane, I thought we would have no more elections because baby Obama would decree it, but it is worse, it is because they are meaningless.
    141% voter turnout?
Obama won by 50.5% to 49.5%, and one FL county had 141%. Think about that.
We wasted Billions on this election and it was utterly meaningless.

  2. Speaking of achievements…THANK YOU REP. ALLEN WEST FOR ALL YOUR SACRIFICES FOR THIS COUNTRY THAT WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!!

    I got sidetracked with #1 comment…

GOD BLESS ALL OF OUR VETERANS…YOUR FAITHFUL LOVE AND SACRIFICES FOR THIS BELOVED COUNTRY ARE MUCH APPRECIATED AND NEVER FORGOTTEN!

  3. All the signs were in full view that the Democrats were going to steal the election.

Romney lost by 33,000 votes in 3 swing states. And those are the states with all the voter fraud.

West is a fighter for what is right. Too bad the Romney campaign wasn’t.

this is why they don’t want WEST around..

albeit i wish Romney had run in 2008, he lost the day the Republicans announced he was their chosen candidate, ergo, a shot across the Tea Part’s bow at the same time.. not to mention spokesperson dinosaurs the likes of a Rove.. sorry, but imho, no matter how much “it’s a given fraud was committed” by Barry Dhimmis, the Republicans set themselves up for a fall..

and btw, while i believe Romney would have made a great President,
the phony war against women didn’t decide, you see, Romney is truly
the NICER guy of the two, but women have always gone for the rebel
without a cause so to speak, a REVOLUTIONARY, as deep down in his
inner core, that’s exactly what defines Obama..

  6. Anyone who thinks the DNC doesn’t target black / minority candidates is naive to say the least. It simply doesn’t fit with their “white racist” narrative.

St. Lucie County (where West was running) had a 140% voter turnout.

In Cleveland at least they had the good sense to have a 100% turnout (and 100% of votes cast for Obama). Much less obvious /s

What Luck! Obama Won Dozens of Cleveland Districts with 100% of the Vote (and 100% turnout!)

article update: Mr. Obama won in St. Lucie County, Florida, which had over 140% voter turnout.

Suggestion to GOP: Instead of spending endless hours discussing and debating why Romney lost, how about if somebody investigates whether he actually did!

  7. #26 correction: doesn’t target black / minority GOP candidates

  8. Romney fought harder against Republican than he ever did against Democrats.

  9. Can we recount the whole country?

  11. Americans got screwed again,as usual. The local Tea Party here DOES NOT inspire any confidence and a lot of TP candidates don’t even know how to campaign without sticking their foot in their mouth. Like unions, they began with a grand vision and then the wrong folks took control.

  12. Glad West is demanding a recount.

I agree that Romney should have as well, and that could have been achieved through the counting of material ballots, statistics, and the finish numbers on the vote count.

A lot of votes weren’t counted, AND there was voter fraud related to people voting more than once.

And that doesn’t EVEN address the software issues–easily programmed to disappear votes for Romney, Johnson, etc, and/or give votes to Obama. All under the table.

Romney for some reason thought the Dems would play by the rules since they were being beaten “fair and square” during the campaign. OF COURSE they never had any intention of being fair. For them anything and everything they do is justified–because of colonialism, slavery, etc. etc.

Romney should have had back-up plans regarding the election count and should have made a big deal out of the military votes not counting.

  13. BG,

    Obama a revolutionary? Hee hee… A Bolshevik?

I see tyrant, nasty, angry, spiteful, childish, coward, scared, frightened, immature, dictator, liar, fake, deceiver, doesn’t care about people, no matter how much he says he does, hater…

  14. With all due respect to all of out, I repeat, West is out. This is a fact. We lost big in this election by not facing facts. Seniors, Latinos, women, gays African-Americans all vote and our side gave the impressions of not giving a damn about any of them. If we are going to take back the White House and the Senate, we are going to have to change that and it will take actions, not just words. West, despite the color of his skin, doesn’t fit into that scenario.

  15. Please pardon the typo. I meant to say ‘with all due respect to all of you.”

  16. Our very own troll that calls herself a Lady.

“Suggestion to GOP: Instead of spending endless hours discussing and debating why Romney lost, how about if somebody investigates whether he actually did!”

    YES!!!!!!

They need to fight for the MACHINES and the court will not give them to West.

Romney did NOT lose. Anyone that wants to sit back and swallow that crap, so be it. It did not happen. It might have been close but I doubt even that.

Believe what they are feeding you or your eyes. There is proof if you will only weigh 2 things that you observed. Romney was building. Size of crowds were building. Obama had trouble all the way through. He moved his convention speech. Think!!!!

Obama & Biden had great difficulty building a crowd all the way. Think about what you know and what you watched. Then ask if that produces those results. It doesn’t.

Why are the Republicans not having all of those PA officials in court. Why are they not shouting about it? I BLAME OUR ELECTED VOICES who lay down like dogs.

I want Boehner out. Yesterday. I want anyone else at this point. Give me a former Dem for my voice and let that Arthur show Repubs the way. I want such a stink that everyone smells it about those MACHINES and those crooked election judges. They are really the little tin gods during election. I want our ELECTED voices to shake the world with the racism charge of 99%.

  17. I want ELECTED voices to be VOICES and not wimps.

This election was the most important of our lifetime. We did not fail. Our ELECTED voices failed us.

  18. Back in the simple days when Dems run Texas, they would pay each vote they needed to put them over the top $5 and haul them to the poll. It did not matter if they were not registered because the Dem poll judge okayed them if the Repub appointed watcher objected. They kept a running total behind the scenes and if they thought they needed more, by golly, more would be hauled. That was the good ole simple way to steal an election.

Today we will never win another election if those ELECTED voices do not get up off their duff and do something about the machines. No, I am not kidding.

  19. #20- Joanne,

    My sentiment, exactly!
